I walked into Guitar Center to simply browse the guitars, not even really meaning to buy anything. One of the salespeople was tuning and playing a number of various guitars (Fender, Ibanez, Gibsons, etc.) I stood by listening to him play, and when he picked up the Schecter Gryphon, it immediately caught my eye. Then when he tuned and started to play it, it caught my attention even more. After he went through a few other guitars, I asked him to go back to the Gryphon, and after looking at the price, was simply amazed at how nice of a guitar it sounded. I put it on layaway that day, and picked it up just yesterday. Simply amazing sound for the price, just as good if not better than some even more expensive guitars.

I really liked the look of the guitar, so I bought it. It is beautiful. I did noticed that all of the frets were factory ground flat. It was too noisy in the store to tell, but the fret buzz was substantial. Took it for a professional setup and had them file the sharp edges & make the frets round & set intonation ($80) and it still had unacceptable fret buzz. Oh, and the neck attaches at a slant, so there's no easy way to just change the neck. I took it back. I've decided that I'll try a Dean Vendetta next.

Rockin At Almost 60

By Sergeant Wiz

from Hartland, Wisconsin

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I "Rocked" in the mid to late 60's until Uncle Sam Wanted Me. Back then we had great guitars & amps but were limited to choices. About 15 years ago at the age of 43 I got back into "Rockin". I couldn't believe how many different brands now exist. Guitar Center introduced me to Schecter. It was love at first riff. Don't tell Schecter but we're stealing these guitars. For the money....They can't be beat. Trust me! There is wisdom in age. Keep Rockin.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I recently bought a schecter gryphon (caramel burst) over the holidays. Ive been playing for about a year and 1/2 and wanted to upgrade my guitar. I was looking at a few different guitars, all more expensive, when i happened to play this guitar in gc. I had always seen them, thought they were pretty, but they didnt have the name that goes with years of guitar heritage, like gibson, fender, etc. Anyway after playing this thing on the advice of a friend, i immediately knew this was the guitar of choice. Not only was it perfectly built, but was several hundred bucks cheaper than the others i was looking at. The pickups are hot, the action low, and the looks are sweet. You just cant go wrong with this guitar.

Buy it It's Worth It.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for well over 2 years now. Like most, this was my first (and only) Schecter. I've played Strats, Warlocks, Washburns, everything, and this guitar overall is the best! The sustain is incredible, and paired with a Line 6 amp, the sound is amazing. Never goes out of tune, and I play at least 2 shows a week and practice daily. The pickups are amazingly hot, and the coil tap comes in handy for blues. I play everything from metal to soft Christian, and this guitar does it all!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I traded this guitar in for a old beat up ibanez rg. Wow what a difference this guitar's pick-ups are HOT and it can take the big strings i use as well as the low tuning (Drop C sharp) if you want a simple yet elegant guitar this is the one for you!

Review

By Albatross belle

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

The workmanship, style and the quality of the parts of this Guitar are very nice. The look, action and controls are of a very high quality. My only complaint is with the sound. This is why I am compelled to write this review. If you are purely a metal head who plays only power chords or single string notes you will like this "ax". When you play more than three strings with any kind of gain it will sound like mush. I'm not a tone perfectionist but I do like to hear what I'm playing. With new pickups I'm sure this will make a big difference. It would be a good idea to play this guitar through my amp before the purchase. I would have shopped and (listened) more carefully.

Great Guitar

By Blah

from Portland OR

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

This was the second guitar I bought, after playing for about three years. I love the extra long neck, and the Duncan pick ups. The sustain is relativly good, but it could be better. The look is good, I like te flame top. Overall, it's a great guitar, good for a semi-experienced player. I would recomend this guitar to anyone who wants a good guitar, for lots of shredding.

The Best For: Shredding

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great. I have unfortunately had it rained on (long story to that) but overall it is a great guitar. The thing works fine, like nothing ever happened. It shreds nice, doesn't work well with the pinch harmonics. Well it works well but not as good as the Schecter S-1. But you will not regret buying this guitar even if you want pinch harmonics. This guitar is great. Love the extra long neck. Its a great guitar
