I walked into Guitar Center to simply browse the guitars, not even really meaning to buy anything. One of the salespeople was tuning and playing a number of various guitars (Fender, Ibanez, Gibsons, etc.) I stood by listening to him play, and when he picked up the Schecter Gryphon, it immediately caught my eye. Then when he tuned and started to play it, it caught my attention even more. After he went through a few other guitars, I asked him to go back to the Gryphon, and after looking at the price, was simply amazed at how nice of a guitar it sounded. I put it on layaway that day, and picked it up just yesterday. Simply amazing sound for the price, just as good if not better than some even more expensive guitars.

I really liked the look of the guitar, so I bought it. It is beautiful. I did noticed that all of the frets were factory ground flat. It was too noisy in the store to tell, but the fret buzz was substantial. Took it for a professional setup and had them file the sharp edges & make the frets round & set intonation ($80) and it still had unacceptable fret buzz. Oh, and the neck attaches at a slant, so there's no easy way to just change the neck. I took it back. I've decided that I'll try a Dean Vendetta next.

If I had to make a custom

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I've been playing this guitar for a year now. I got it for Christmas and I'm so pleased. I'd recommend upgrading the pickups, but there's no need because the standard pickups are fantastic. I just found a Pup set up i couldn't ignore. It's neck plays the best out of any guitar I've ever held. The wood is of really good quality. The coil tapping is so much fun to mess with. The Grover tuners are really nice. This guitar is near perfect. If I had to make a custom, it would be this guitar. The only thing Schecter did wrong with this guitar is the price. It's way to cheap for what it should be.

Best Guitar Under $600

By nickfromdtown

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

If you're under the impression that Schecter makes strictly metal guitars you are mistaken. This guitar can play anthing from jazz to classical to rock to metal to poka to anything else you can think of. The range of sounds you can get out of this is ridiculouse. The paint job is so amazing. The action is set up perfectly and the neck is one of the nicest necks you can find on any guitar. The duncan design humbuckers blow you away. This guitar is a thorough bread monster.

Simply Impressed

By SchecterstruckinCA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I bought the Schecter Gryphon Limited Edition as my 'toss around' Schecter for all sorts of uses. This inexpensive guitar is very solidly build, very easy on the eyes, easy to play, and sounds fantastic. It rarely goes out of tune (and certainly not during playing). I say - if you are looking for your first, or one of many guitars in your collection that you'll want to pick up and play again and again, look no further - this Schecter is it! Buy it..

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I've had this for a year and nothing has gone wrong with it. It's still as if I just bought it, and I play a lot. The pickups sound great, and the fretboard is easy to navigate around. I barely have to tune it. Overall, it's just a rockin guitar. I highly recommend.

Almost Perfect...

By Maximus

from West Warwick, Rhode Island

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing. The finish almost looks like a zebra. I just happened to buy the charcoal burst. The only problem I have with this guitar is that it has a tremendously annoying fret buzz. That's the only compaint I have. Other than that, I love this guitar. I would recommend it to people who don't quite mind the fret buzz. The neck is so smooth and there's no trouble trying to slide. The tuners are great and really hold the tuning. Overall, I loved this guitar but now I'm going to try the Damien FR.

Best you can get!

By Domo

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

Now i had been searching on and on for a guitar that would suit my playing style (very broad) and be affordable. I was terribly lost until, low and behold, i stumbled upon this work of art. I had heard about this guitar from a friend and decided to purchase it finally, due to the good reviews. I was not let down...This guitar really holds it ground, taking beating after beating, and still plays amazingly. The tones u can get out of it are unbelievable and the neck is fast and sleek. The pickups work seamlessly and along with the coil tapping, you cant beat it. Its a must have for any intermediate player on a budget. My only complaint is that color is a little bit darker than in the picture.

Buy it It's Worth It.

By Andrew

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for well over 2 years now. Like most, this was my first (and only) Schecter. I've played Strats, Warlocks, Washburns, everything, and this guitar overall is the best! The sustain is incredible, and paired with a Line 6 amp, the sound is amazing. Never goes out of tune, and I play at least 2 shows a week and practice daily. The pickups are amazingly hot, and the coil tap comes in handy for blues. I play everything from metal to soft Christian, and this guitar does it all!

The Best For: Shredding

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Gryphon Limited Edition Flametop Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great. I have unfortunately had it rained on (long story to that) but overall it is a great guitar. The thing works fine, like nothing ever happened. It shreds nice, doesn't work well with the pinch harmonics. Well it works well but not as good as the Schecter S-1. But you will not regret buying this guitar even if you want pinch harmonics. This guitar is great. Love the extra long neck. Its a great guitar
