Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum FR-Sustaniac:

Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes and no. Does my friend have money to spend on a gimmicky sustainiac equipped guitar that may enjoy experimenting with sustain and being a little creative? Yes. Does my friend have one opportunity to buy one decent guitar and have fun rockin out or chugging till his heart is content (as if), then no. I did not want a Schecter. I did not want EMGs. I prefer slimmer necks and lighter bodies. Schecters seem heavy to me. It's very solid and plays very well. It's also very well polished. I would have preferred the black or grey as opposed to the red. After playing this for a few days I went back to my Ibanez and decided to upgrade the pups because I really do prefer playing it over the Schecter. What I wanted was a Jackson. So why did I buy what I did not want? Why Sustainiac, of course. It was not recommended that I try to put a sustainiac in the Jackson I wanted. Something to do with spacing and room in the body for electronics.
Like I said, it's a well crafted guitar. Some people consider them the best for metal. I would disagree. Any guitar can be good for metal based on many variables. The EMGs are just a bit too much for me. I like to shape more warmth with my distortion using a Maxon OD and the amps distortion. EMGs are a bit overkill.
The sustainiac is however, lots of fun. This little monkey can really squeal and moan or both with a 3 way toggle. It has a really cool effect when playing clean and the sustain is active. The guitar gets good sustain even without th sustainiac, but if you want to hold it and craft some fun stuff then you really need it.
The term is decent. I don't dive bomb or abuse it, so it keeps tune pretty well. The volume and tone knob are a bit further away than other guitars like Ibanez or Jackson. I like that I'm not accidentally adjusting volume with my fingers as I play.
The neck is smooth and the jumbo fret are nice I guess. I could live without them. But it is wider than an Ibanez.'s fun to have and play as an extra but not as a main unless I switched out the EMG.

Great guitar plus Sustainiac at a bargain price

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum FR-Sustaniac:

I got this guitar primarily because of the Sustainiac pickup - a feature that's kind of understated in the product description. You can get a detailed rundown of this pickup on the Sustainiac website; but in short: when the sustain function is switched off, it's a normal pickup; when on, it uses the signal from the bridge-position pickup to create an electromagnetic field that vibrates the strings, effectively duplicating what amp feedback does, except at any volume. If you're familiar with the E-Bow, it works on the same principle, except that you don't have to hold something in your hand, and it works on all the strings simultaneously. It's an amazing device: at the least, it allows you to get literally infinite sustain out of a note; with the harmonic selector switch, it allows you to get incredible overtones that exceed even what you can get out of a cranked amp - without damaging your hearing or your relationship with your neighbors. About the guitar itself: first of all, it was an unbeatable deal, with a rebate offer for a free hardshell case and a Guitar Center promotion that knocked off another $150 (yow!) But at any price it would still be an impressive instrument: a beautiful dark burst border fading into a wine-red flame maple top, nicely contoured and completed with a matte-silver binding; and hardware (trem bridge, knobs, tuners) with the same matte-silver chrome finish. The instrument seems very accurately built; the Floyd Rose Special trem/bridge works smoothly, and intonation and string height were good right out of the box. (Really. I'm skeptical when people say that in reviews, but it's true.) This is my first guitar with an active pickup - the EMG 81 in the bridge - and I like it a lot: the preamp built into the pickup effectively acts as sort of a compressor, creating a consistently higher output with more sustain than a passive humbucker. Add the natural sustaining properties of a set neck, and even without boosted gain it has terrific natural sustain. Add the Sustainiac, and... well, you can imagine. No regrets in adding this guitar to my stable.

Its a beast!!

from Oak Ridge, TN

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum FR-Sustaniac:

I did not think it was possible to have a Sustainiac / Sustainer system with active pickups. i was wrong!!! Schecter has made one of the best playing guitars I've ever played with the best Sustainer system in the world and topped that with an EMG 81 in the bridge. This guitar is much more than a guitar and you will just have to play it to know what I mean. The workmanship is incredible and it was in tune and setup perfectly right out of the box. If you can't get the endless amount of sustain, gain and playability that we are all looking for out of this guitar, somethings wring. This is the meanest sounding guitar Ive ever played and it plays so good.
