Overview

The Schecter C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar takes everything guitar players love about the popular C-1 and adds platinum fingerboard inlays, fretboard and body binding, and satin chrome hardware. This C-1 also boasts a double cutaway mahogany body, 25.5" scale set maple neck, and a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. A Schecter Ultra Access neck joint lets you reach the entire fretboard with ease and comfort. It's loaded with a pair of EMG Active 81/85 pickups for an incredible range of tones.

Grover tuners

The original Rotomatic with an improved higher ratio gearing. The 18:1 ratio provides for finer tuning and greater stability. The finer gears provide smoother tuning and a higher degree of backlash elimination.

Rosewood fingerboard
The most common fretboard, rosewood is naturally oily, and works well for any surface that sees frequent human contact. The sound is richer in fundamental than maple because the stray overtones are absorbed into the oily pores.

EMG Active 81/85 pickups
One of the most popular EMG' the 81 is the one that started a revolution. Utilizing powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, the tone was designed with detailed intensity, incredible amounts of high-end cut and fluid sustain. Traditionally used in the bridge position, this pickup will make your leads slice right through even the densest mix. When used in both neck and bridge positions, the sound can only be described as blistering. Recommended pairings include the classic 81/85 setup.

3-piece maple neck
The C-1 Platinum is made with three pieces of maple for extra stability. Where standard necks may show aging defects from temperature and moisture changes throughout the years, the three-piece neck will stay nice and straight for a lifetime of playability.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for about 7 months and was looking for a guitar to replace my starter pack Squier Strat. I find myself playing more metal with aggressive distortion and a lot of pinch harmonics and I was dissatisfied with the distorted tone on the Squier.

I looked for a guitar with a reliable brand name and something with few parts I would need to replace and a long lasting guitar. I was searching and stumbled upon this Schecter model that came stock with EMG's. I had watched several videos and read up on hardware for guitars to make sure I knew what I was buying. Grover tuners, EMG pickups 81/85, Black tusq nut, this guitar had very high quality parts for a stock guitar. The design was also incredible leaving me with virtually no option. So on a trip to the US I stopped at guitarcenter and picked it up to play.

The tone of the EMG's was bitey and aggressive exactly how I wanted. The neck felt smooth and had a recessed joint for access which is extremely helpful. Played a few of my favorite riffs and couldn't put the guitar down. I played for about an hour in guitarcenter, came back the next day and bought it. Its a fantastic guitar for distorted tone however the clean tone is exceptional. Of course I do not have much experience but I know what feels good and this guitar feels good. This was a perfect first guitar and Schecter has really surprised me with the quality of the instrument.

    Beast

    By Asa Hoffman

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

Schecter has not failed to impress once again. I already have a Hellraiser Solo-6 Special, and it is a perfect compliment to it. The EMG's scream, of course. They provide a great range of tones. The mahogany body gives great resonance and the string-through setup provides ultimate sustain. Perhaps my favorite part about this ax is the one-piece neck construction, which makes it very easy to access the higher frets. It seems to be very solidly constructed and durable. It is also relatively light. The grey-burst is stunning. You can't beat this guitar for the money. It is a must have for any level of player.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

Got this beauty by trading in an Iba*** S670, and let me tell you, this guitar is in a league of its own. EMG 81 85s in a stock guitar?!? Wat?? Amazing, thank you Schecter. The Sound, it's MASSIVE. It screams in the highs, and chuggs like a T Rex riding a giant hot rod in the lows. Put this puppy in drop c sharp and it sounds like a v8 hotrod. The emgs have great articulation, you can turn the gain and overdrive on your amp up to 10, and play 6 string chords and you can hear every fretted note. Wonderful. Feel. Amazing feel. Do you like sweep picking, tapping, wailing heavy metal shred solos? Yes? This guitar is made for you. Scalloped neck makes playing the full second octave easy as cake. Craftsmanship and looks. Do not be fooled by the picture, this guitar needs to be seen in person and physically held. Smoothly sanded, no rough edges or defects anywhere. It's light and fast. The grover tuners are solid and I like them for sure. Are these handmade? The quality is insane. If I didn't see the list price I would assume this was a 4 figure guitar. In conclusion, Schecter has earned a lifetime customer in me. I really don't want to play anything else at this point. Buy it.

I bought this guitar purely because I enjoyed the way it played in the store, but when I got it home and plugged into my own amp and effects, I was blown away. This guitar is an animal... an absolute beast. Well balanced, easy to play, and everything you'd ever want in a hard rock to metal band. Worth every penny.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

I had read every single review on this guitar at least 3 times prior to purchasing it through a recent Labor Day sale, if not well before that. I'll cut to the chase, every bit of what is said is true for this guitar. The neck is very slim and well-crafted, I almost did not think it was even wood due to the smoothness. Everything about this guitar screams perfection for the price range. EMGs, 85 and 81 on a stock guitar? You bet, and they are aggressive when you want them to be, and crisp and clear if you want a clean tone.

I used to be an Epiphone player by majority, acoustics and electrics from SG to Les Paul. I'm not saying I will not ever play them again, but it would be quite a while before doing so. Schecter has gotten themselves a new favourite customer, as this is my very first one (and one I had bought on my own) and I am not in any way disappointed.

Admittedly, switching from a Les Paul to an axe such as this is very different. After playing for maybe 15 minutes, I was accustomed to it. I can go faster, get better sustain, and feel great playing it. This guitar is worth every penny you put into it. A rarity among many guitars, it came ready to play out of the box, nothing needed to be tweaked aside from the strings (which were Ernie Ball 2221s, and were slightly above E flat when I got it).

I play anything from Metallica, Megadeth, Sabaton, Bullet for my Valentine, Disturbed, etc. and this really suits anything I want to play, even does well if I feel like doing an acoustic song such as So Far Away (By Staind and Avenged Sevenfold) or Broken by Seether.

Bottom Line: It is versatile, it is fun to play, amazing to simply look at, and sounds like a beast. It is for anyone: beginner to expert, and it deserves a place amongst your collection.

          By Kenneth Duncan

          from Antioch CA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

for $550 you get probably one of the greatest guitars on earth. Schecter has just recently caught my attention but every one i have played has been amazing. even they're $300 guitars are awesome. I played this guitar when i was last in my local GC and ohhh man...If i weren't buying a Hellraiser C-1 i would have grabbed this before anyone else seen it. the tone this thing KRANKS! It's a freaking monster. Neck is ultra slim and rounded it's a 3 piece set neck that Feels the same as any neck through guitar which means Superior! It's Really REALLY light weight and the EMG 81,85 Combo is never a bad thing. If you are looking for a traditional double cut away design guitar that literally is possessed by a Tone God then buy this you will not be disappointed.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

I'm a huge schecter fanboy. I've owned and played lots of other brands. All the top ones. Yes, they are nice guitars and nothing wrong with them, but for me nothing compares to the schecter line. $ for $, they blow everyone else away.

A little over a year before I bought this guitar, I was in GC and played this guitar for close to an hour. I fell in love with it and was set to buy it. Then I look up and hanging on the top of the wall is the hellraiser hybrid. Well, I ended up with the hellraiser hybrid. Didn't plan to spend that much, but I had a 15% coupon, plus some trade in credit. I love my hellraiser. But I needed another guitar. I use the hellraiser for C# drop B tunings. I play 10-52's on it. It's a beast and makes those deep chugging and riffing thick and clear, plus leads scream. But, my son and I also do alot of covers, 80's thrash and classic metal stuff, 'tallica, maiden, priest, etc. So I needed a 9-42 standard tuning axe. And I didn't even bother to look around. I knew exactly what I wanted. Plus, the 81/85's deliver the right attack. I love the 57/66's on the hellraiser but they have such thickness and depth that sometimes you need the sharp crisp bite of the metal standard 81/85's to get that pure metal sound.

I love the C1 shape, the balance, weight, and just the appearance. This is a metal machine. The neck is perfect for shredding yet has enough body to grab on to for heavy riffing and chord work. The thing just exudes solidness and quality. I honestly don't know how schecter can sell these things for such amazing prices. Seriously, I played the other brands in the same price range, and they straight out suck. The same $$$ gets you a bolt on, passive, tinny, no sustain, weak sounding, es* or iban** or dea* or whatever. You gotta step up another $2-300 to get something somewhat equal, and then schecter blows them away again at that range.

This isn't a guitar you take to a blues jam session. It's pure metal.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

this guitar is crazy awesome. it is my fist schecter, and defiantly wont be my last. there is nothing about this guitar that doesnt stand out as being awesome. everything from the feel of the neck down to the pots is spot on. just a list of this guitars awesome features: ~the neck is awesome. it is perfect. soo smooth and easy to play. ~the tuners are grover....need i say more? ~the neck joint is the best of all of the 7 electric's i own(a 1992 iby rg570, an iby rg5ex1, a martin f-65, a teisco, an iby sz, a lp knock-off, and this) ~the tone wood is great. mahogany is much better than basswood. ~even though they get alot of hate, the 81/85 pickups are awesome. surprisingly enough, the cleans are nice. ~all of the hardware is a nice satin chrome. the feel is way better than normal gloss hardware ~the quilted maple is awesome. beautiful, yet subtle. ~the guitar has silver binding that is awesome.....way better than normal black/white/ivory ~as i mentioned earlier, the pots are awesome....super smooth over all, this guitar is AMAZING. basically, if you dont own this guitar, you are making a mistake.

I am actually a drummer by trade but have dabble in the stringed instruments here and there. I have to say that first of all, this guitar plays super smooth. It was set up very nicely right out of the box and the pickups alone make it a force to be reckoned with. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it from people who primarily play guitar and I've really enjoyed playing it so far. It's definitely a great instrument for the price.

I LOVE THIS GUITAR. Schecter nailed it again. The weight and balance are perfect. The neck is fast and comfortable to play. The dirty tones are monstrous and punchy. I played it so much yesterday my finger tips are red and sore, making it difficult to type this love letter. I'm selling my other guitar and buying another C-1 Platinum. Anyone interested in a beautiful walnut PRS SE Custom 24?

first off i love this guitar. i have EMGs in all but one of my guitars but the 81/85 it came with i thought sounded terrible, very muddy, all bottom end. I switched them out to Het Set and this thing screams now. My favorite part about this guitar is the neck. I can change tuning without it going out of wack, only guitar i own that can do that.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

This thing does Sabbath, Chevelle, August Burns Red, Metallica, etc. Anything that is metal or hard rock basically. It does cleans alright, but honestly, that's NOT why you buy this guitar. Just get a cheap single coil epi or squire if you wish, but do not buy this for anything clean.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar as my main guitar because the tone is great and the feel is great. That being said, it's awesome for metal/technical music. It has an extremely high output from the emg's, which is both good and bad. Occasionally it will sound bad if you try to do clean tones with the volume and tone knobs at full as it tends to clip if you're playing hard at all. If you roll them off a bit it sounds great, but you lose a little punch. Not a big deal. The string tension is very high, maybe it just has to do with how mine is set up. But trying to bend notes is really difficult with 11 gauge strings. Those are my only complaints as it's relatively affordable and it does sound great. Also, the quilting looks amazing in person.

As promised this guitar arrived in the mail and played like a charm right out of the box. Its solid and it screams like a banshee when you want it too. WOW. for the price you can't go wrong. The extra frets and fretboard action are amazing.

I picked up this finely crafted instrument over Memorial Day weekend and after spending a month with it it's my new go to for pretty much everything. I went to GC specifically to try out this guitar. I didn't see it anywhere on the floor so they went and grabbed it from the stock room. Right out of the box it was perfectly setup, in tune and intonated. That in itself was pretty impressive. Then I plugged it in and jammed away. I did compare it to a few others in the same price range but kept coming right back to this one. It feels great in your hands and sounds amazing. The EMG 81/85 combo has always been my favorite. You will be hard pressed to find another guitar for this price matching this quality. Superb work Schecter, you never cease to impress me!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research C-1 Platinum Electric Guitar:

                        Break it down for you:

EMG 81/85 pups - by themselves, about $200 - 225, leaving about $250 for the rest of the guitar. For that, you get: a three-piece mahogany set neck (no bolts here); double cutaway mahogany body with insane neck access; translucent black satin finish on the body with matching headstock; 5-ply platinum binding; platinum gothic cross marker at the 12th fret and platinum dots in the usual places; black chrome satin hardware; and that's just the aesthetics...You would be hard-pressed to find the same features in a comparably priced guitar; most in this range have bolt-on necks and passive humbuckers. Those two features alone make this Schecter C-1 Platinum a rare beast, the Indominus Rex of its metal Jurassic Park, if you will. This is my first Schecter; I originally was eyeing the Hellraiser C-1 line (red, of course), but found this simpler model to be more appealing to the eye, as well as to the ear. That's the danger of going to Guitar Center and trying something: once you've put your hands on a guitar that just sings when you play it, it's hard to leave it behind in the store. Someone else might taker her home...and that just ain't right.
