Schecter is breaking new musical ground with their Slim Line Series of electric guitars. Designed with an ultra-thin, lighting fast neck and a sleek contoured body, the Blackjack SLS C-8 EX Active is armed with a pair of active Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups, a Hipshot Custom-8 string-thru body bridge, and Schecter locking tuners. Elegant design appointments include a "Hell's Gate Skull" inlay on its ebony fretboard, and the entire guitar is adorned with black chrome hardware.
3-Piece Maple neck w/Carbon Fiber reinforcement rods
Made with 3 pieces of maple for extra stability. Where standard necks may show aging defects from temperature and moisture changes throughout the years, this 3-piece neck will stay nice and straight for a lifetime of playability. Two carbon fiber rods are installed next to the truss rod for extra stability. Stronger than an equivalent volume of steel, carbon fiber adds little weight, but significant stiffness.
Satin finish and Ultra-Thin profile
The SLS collection features a satin finish neck for lightning fast playing above and below the 12th fret, an ultra-thin neck profile (19mm at 1st fret/ 20mm at 12th fret), and a new Ultra Access neck joint shape for easier access to the last frets.
Ebony has a snappy, crisp attack with the density of maple, but with more brittle grains, oilier pores, and a stronger fundamental tone than maple. It has a tremendous amount of percussive overtones in the pick attack, that mute out shortly thereafter to foster great, long sustain.
Seymour Duncan Blackout 8-string AHB-1 active pickups
9-Volt active pickups like its predecessors, the 6-string and 7-string versions of the Blackouts, but built to direct retrofit nearly all 8-string electric guitars. Perfect for old school metal and new school screamers, especially dark pounding metal that incorporates extreme lows. Balanced inputs with a differential preamp for reduced noise. Ceramic magnets and calibrated wind for both neck and bridge versions provide for greater dynamic range and allow for specific character in each register.
Schecter locking tuning machines
These tuners feature a locking screw pin to lock the string into place for greater tuning stability. Details include a 19:1 gear ratio allowing for precise fine tuning adjustments, removable knobs, threaded peghead bushing, and a 10mm diameter peg hole.
Hell's Gate Skull inlay
The Mother of Pearl 'Hell's Gate Skull' inlay compliments the beautiful ebony fretboard. The thin white binding strip adds a nice highlight.
Case sold separately.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Blackjack SLS C-8 EX Active Electric Guitar:
I ordered this guitar online because they don't seem to carry it in the stores. However, when I received it I was disappointed to see it was not the guitar I ordered. The guitar had regular dot inlays and no "Hell's Gate Skull" as advertised on the Guitar Center website. After some research from the manager at Guitar Center, it was discovered that the model with the "Hell's Gate Skull" is discontinued by Schecter and now they only make it with the dot inlays. I did play with this guitar for awhile and wanted to love it, but I only like it...and it has nothing to do with the missing skull. The tone seemed very sterile to me. The bottom tone was tight, but the rest of it was lacking. The harmonics and percussive overtones I was expecting were not there. Also, this is a Slimline Series guitar. I was expecting a neck thinner and faster than my other Schecters but it doesn't feel that way. I think that the body is also too thin and too light to resonate the tone I was looking for. However, I got the Schecter Damien Platinum 8 String Guitar instead and I love that guitar. I tone is tight and meaty with good midrange. The neck feels really good for shredding and the EMG pickups sound very clear and almost passive in my opinion. The Damien is articulate and cleans up very well. I would highly recommend the Damien Platinum to anyone interested in playing heavy music. I actually like it more than my Jeff Loomis 7 string!
