I bought this bass a few months back to replace the 5 string I've had for 15 years. I did a lot of comparing and decided this was a good addition to my collection. This bas has some great options with the 3 tone knobs, unlike most basses. Even with the tone knobs I'd still recommend an actual EQ of sort to dial in the exact tone you want. This bass has a lot of punch and great low end response. If you are serious about finding a new bass to your liking, you should try to play them thru a setup much like what you normally play. This will avoid dissapointment later. The weight of this bass is not too heavy, you must realize its solid wood! This bass is perfectly balanced and is a dream to play. The neck is beautifull and smooth. It comes standard with with decent strings but I do not like them and will be replacing them soon. I have not yet recorded anything with this bass but it will be used soon. Playing this bass live has been nice, and im sure there are much better out there but for this price I believe this is near the top for most. The only thing I have a complaint about is the fact that it doesnt fit in a standard hard case. But this is very minor due to all the positives of this bass. Try it out and I'm sure you'll enjoy playing this well made bass.
I tried out this thunder stick at ghe G.C. in Mayfield, Ohio. Coming off of a 12 year vacation from playing bass, when I'm spending my pesos, they need to be spent legitimately. I picked up a Jasmine 4 stringer A/E for jammin to c.d.'s and CMT. It is fun to play, and smooth, but limited. Schecter really pulled it off with this one. Excellent clarity, sustain, playability, tone, comfort, and affordability. When income tax return time rolls around, I'll be sleeping on the couch after I bring it home and show my wife.
This bass is truely a work of art. The tone from the active EMGs is crisp and clear. It also lends itself to distortion, wah pedals and all forms of modulation. This bass simply has the best tone south of a grand. The neck-through design gives this bass great sustain and tone quality. The action is perfect for playing anything for Jaco to Zeppelin. My only compaint was that my potometer was set too high from the factory (causing uncontrolable buzzing) but I fixed that and now I have the perfect bass. I am considering buying another one, doing some neck work, and turning it into a fretless. All in all, I cannot praise this bass enough. Thanks Schecter for building such a wonderfull instrument!
