I got these based on the advice from my guitar tech to replace the low end Grovers on my new Gibson 60's Tribute Les Paul. The strings would not stay in tune for more than a song or two before needing a tune up( and drove me crazy!) Ahhhh...the Schaller's fixed the problem and make the overall feel or the guitar much better, improved playability, and in sum, a much better playing guitar because of the tuners(and tune up with a guitar tech). These tuners just feel solid and well, precision built. The price is low and you can't go wrong!
I've had these on my custom guitar for over 30 years now, also somebody put them on my '68 ES-335, and I'm pretty sure the "Gibson" tuners on my '78 Les Paul are Schallers as well. I've never had any problems, stay in tune and easy to use. I have some Grover's which work fine too, but the gold plating is a mess even after a few months. I just got another set for a custom guitar I'm building. Look exactly the same as the 35 year set.
