Overview

Graphite 49's semi-weighted keyboard provides you with a responsive and expressive platform that is designed to feel more like an instrument than a controller. It comes equipped with velocity-sensitive keys that accurately capture the dynamics of a performance. Aftertouch offers customizable control over a variety of effects and parameters, for example the addition of growl to a saxophone or vibrato to strings. With 49 keys, the Graphite 49's pitch range is perfect for performing while remaining highly portable.

It's also very easy to use. With dedicated Transpose and Octave buttons, you can change the key of any given instrument, as well as expand the keyboard to a full 4-octave range, without using any sub menus or shift keys. With all of these comprehensive features, not to mention classic Pitch Bend and Modulation wheels, the Graphite 49 puts a wide range of musical expression and tone manipulation at your fingertips.

The Graphite 49's nine faders, eight encoders and 16 buttons are all customizable for the ultimate in hands-on control over your favorite DAW software. Not only are they customizable, they can be programmed on the fly without the need for editor software. The large LCD screen displays the behavior of every function in real time, giving you intuitive mapping with any software you're using. Another way you can make the Graphite 49 truly your own is to utilize up to 4 zones on the keyboard for creating splits and layering sounds. This function allows different sounds to be assigned to different sections of keys for a completely personalized setup. With the keyboard divided into sections, the Graphite 49 lets you control two, three or four unique voices simultaneously. Record your bass, string, pad, and lead tones all to a single track and leave room for your creative ideas to run wild.

Get Trigger Happy
The four large velocity-sensitive trigger pads on the Graphite 49 can be easily programmed and assigned. Use them to tap out drum beats, cue one-shot samples or start and stop sequences. Expand your options further with a second bank of triggers, bringing the total to eight. With such versatility, the trigger pads are a vital performance and recording feature of the Graphite 49.

Elements of design
With a compact body design that is thinner than most controllers in its class, it's perfect for live performance or studio applications. It's constructed for optimal playability whether it's placed on a solid surface or mounted to a keyboard stand. And its sleek, angled top panel offers easy viewing in any environment.

On-the-go with the iPad
When combined with the iPad using Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit, the Graphite 49 is a great tool for making music wherever and whenever you want. Use it with your favorite music and synth iPad apps that support MIDI controllers. For additional mobility, the Graphite 49 can be powered directly by the iPad when you are away from your desktop computer so you can go outside if you need some quiet time or a different environment for inspiration.

Graphite comes KOMPLETE
Bundled with the Graphite 49, Native Instrument's KOMPLETE ELEMENTS software offers a comprehensive selection of studio-quality sounds, effects and tools for modern music production, composition and sound design. With over 3GB of samples, KOMPLETE ELEMENTS provides you with more than 1,000 premium sounds and three mighty player engines - all carefully compiled to provide a strong toolkit for both stage and studio. Comments about Samson Graphite 49 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

I love this thing. Straight out of the box it worked perfectly. I had no difficulty controlling my DAW (Sonar) and my Softsynths. It all went silky smooth. Everything about this product is just great. You can't go wrong here everyone. If you're looking for a midi controller pick this one.

Looks good on paper but...

Comments about Samson Graphite 49 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

Upon first glance this is a feature-packed controller for an un-beatable price. Aftertouch not only on the keys, but the 4 pads as well? Wow. But upon trying it out, I was very dissapointed. The knobs are those godawful clicky "zippery" knobs, which make it impossible to do smooth filter sweeps, which is a deal-breaker for someone like me who likes to program analog synths. I then tried to assign the sliders or mod wheel to the filter instead, but while these were okay if you moved them slowly, upon fast movement the input would "block up" and wasn't smooth. It seems like the firmware updates at too low or a resolution or something and the input pixelates and degrades if you move them too fast. I really, really wanted to love this controller, but not being able to do fast fluid movements with the control elements is unacceptable.

Feature Packed - Good Price

Comments about Samson Graphite 49 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

I've been looking for a step-up to my MPK Mini and the Graphite 49 was perfect for me. Solidly built, most of the features you'd want (love my MPK Mini's Appregiator). The sliders and encoders(yes I hate the clicky encoders too)function well and are responsive. Keys feel pretty good, and it's easy to edit. Biggest problem is that I don't feel I should have to go to a website, especially a non-Samson website, to learn how to set-up the presets/controls. That and the extremely short USB cable it came with (seems picky, but I had to hang the Graphite 75% off my desk leaning on a chair till I picked up a longer cable). This is my first review, and I'm still somewhat of a novice but between my Graphite 49, MPK Mini, and the trusty Roland A-33. I think I'll be set for a while.

Comments about Samson Graphite 49 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

I've owned the Samson Graphite 49 midi controller for over a years and works superb with Logic X. Easy to assign the knobs, pads, fader, function keys and data banks using the LEARN function on Logic. Great deal for the money and very professional. Can't go wrong.

Comments about Samson Graphite 49 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

I've owned this keyboard for over a year and it stands the test of time. The build quality is great, nothing feels cheap or flimsy, and it's very pleasant to play. I'm mainly a studio musician but I've taken it on the road too and yes, it's survived some bumps and knicks just fine. As anyone will tell you, the encoders are clicky and leave something to be desired. I also have found the drum pads to be too stiff, a good hit on them records a kind of quiet velocity. Keys, pitch and mod wheels, faders, and all other buttons are pleasant to play and with so many options on the Graphite you'll never find yourself short on ways to map your plugins. All things considered, and especially in it's price range, this is a very clear stand out.
