Overview

The Chopper is an innovative multi-application percussion effect that delivers quick, tightly focused white noise accents and rhythms. Comprised of three bronze discs--two of which are cut into propeller-like shapes--riveted loosely together, the Chopper is a totally unique playing experience for drummers and percussionist. When played, the three discs agitate each other and produce a distinctive raw sound.

The Chopper looks simple but is a very complex instrument designed to play accents and rhythms with equal effect. It does this through a combination of etched surfaces and a special die-cut design that lets the three discs vibrate and agitate together; creating the short burst of white noise that makes the Chopper so special.

Already the choice of Mike Portnoy, Will Calhoun, and Rodney Howard, the Chopper fits comfortably on stands in any drum or percussion set-up. A Chopper can also add a distinctly different flavor when used in place of an X-hat, or laid on a snare drum to create a funky techno-type slap. The Chopper is quality protected by the one-year Sabian warranty.

      Comments about Sabian Chopper:

The chopper symbol has a very unique, one of a kind, distinct sound. I would discribe it as a cross between a hand clap & a finger snap. i use it when playing song intros, solos, and rythms. Has a focused quick accent; especially enhanced when it's mic'd up! It's by no means a con, love this symbol! Well worth the $$$. However it's a heavy cymbol. Doesn't move much when you strike it. But be mindfull where u mount it.

The 12" sabian chopper is phenomenal. It provides the shoet, quick accents I need while playing around the kit .It's become a fav in the church band I'm apart of .

          I Agree with "Blake"

          By Michael hubbard

          from San Diego, CA

          Comments about Sabian Chopper:

I agree with Blake on this. This cymbal is really flat and has NO sound quality, just a flat no sound mistake, I think. I know Portnoy and want to say that HE can use it, but HE could make a iron skillet sound right in his kit. For the money I'd say go for a more traditional cymbal, a 18" ride perhaps? mh

          very usable

          By Kristian Thompson _

          from Rio Rancho, NM

          Comments about Sabian Chopper:

I bought the 10" version of this on a whim also. Sure am glad I did. This cymbal was designed to be the mechanical version of the electronic hand clap sound you get on electrical drums. I have found it to be a terrific accent and fill cymbal on several songs. ZZ Tops "Pearl Necklace" and several songs by the Cars that my group does along with 8 Days A Week by the Beatle's. I have found that this cymbal just helps add a little extra to each of these songs. As far as one comment on here that says the sound doesn't cut thru??? My guitar player hears it very well and it is a signal to him on some of the songs so that he knows that a change is coming up. I am very happy with this item. It is one of those "sleepers" that you don't really realize just what an addition it is until you actually have it and use it. I have placed it on my tom rack in the position of where the smallest tom would go, and then the toms run in decending order, smallest to largest (decending, in tone). Love this product

          versitile effects cymbal

          By prog-man

          from SF Bay Area, CA

          Comments about Sabian Chopper:

i recently got the 10 inch chopper and i absolutely love it! the sounds you can get from it are unlimited. if you tighten the felt holding it down, the sound gets shorter and more chopped off, and if you loosen it you get a great "SHH!" sound. laying it on your snare yields a cool effect too. if you hit the head off of the chopper, you get a kind of marching snare meets electronic snare noise. overall its a great cymball.
