  • Brillant makes difference!

As reviewed by Peter Jones on 6/20/2010

I have played many rides in my day but this is one of my all-time favorites. Sabian made the right move making the Paragons avaialable in brillant finish. It makes a huge difference. I owned a natural finish and it wasn't this open and singing. The brillant finish is one of the best looks I have ever seen in a cymbal as well.Stunning! This is a great multi purpose ride. Don't be fooled into thinking it is just for heavy hitting. While that is true, it is one of the most musical rides I have played. The extra weight makes for great clarity and the ping is just long enough without becoming too much but not so pingy that it doesn't sustain. The Hand Hammered bell is the most impressive. It just sings! And it is sounds like it belongs ..unlike some bells that don't contain any of the tonal qualities of the rest of the ride. It is great for big band..rock and pop..and latin gigs. It is musical and projects like mad. This is a great ride but the brillant finish has made it even better. Sabian really got this one right!

  • Very Nice Ride

As reviewed by Kristiant on 1/26/2011

I had been looking for a ride for quite awhile. I took my time in researching this as it would be the most expensive cymbal that I would have to purchase other than Hi-hats. I looked at Zildjian's Ping, Rock, Sweet and Megabell rides. To me, the Zildjians all sounded too "gongy". I had a salesman steer me toward the Paragon, of which I was rather reluctant to check out as I have never been a huge fan of products made by, or endorsed by celebraties. But after checking the 22" Paragon ride out, that... was it. You can get a variaty of sounds out of this monster. I love the bell. when I ride on the bell, I like to turn my stick around and beat that sucker with the heavy end of the stick and that thing just sings. depending on where you ride the rest of the cymbal will determine what sound you get out of it. The one thing I am not too happy with is that the closer to the edge you get on it the more "wash" or "over tones" you get with it. I don't really care for that too much. But over all it is by far the best cymbal that I have heard as far as rides go. The Bell doesn't sound "Gongy" at all. definately recommend

I just wanted to add on to the previous review of this product. There is one thing that has kind of become an annoyance with this particular ride. when you are riding on it it seems to resonate quite a bit and in some venues may but just a bit over bearing, that is, depending on the venue though. other than that I think it is a great ride but sometimes I am a bit annoyed with the resonance created by it.
