This is easily one of the best ride cymbals on the market. The first thing that got me was the price, which was fantastic. It has amazing durability too. I've been playing it for about six months now, and it hardly shows any wear. It has a very clean sound. What's also great is the variety of sounds you can achieve with it. For examply, for quick clean 'tings' you need only hit quickly near the center. For a long, drawn out ring, use the ends. The sound from hitting the center is also very cool. I have also tried playing it when it is turned upside down, providing a very cool echo-ride sound. The only reason it didn't get a five for quality for me is because the sound that comes from playing with slightly large beaded stick heads is a little off. However, if you play with barrells or teardrops, it's fantastic. If you're a drummer on a budget, this is definitely the best cymbal on the market for you.
I would only recommend this cymbal to a beginner someone who has only been playing maybe a few months and hasn't really had their first decent set of cymbals...I got this in a box set with a 16" Medium Crash, 18" Thin Crash, and a pair of 14" Hi-Hats. Right out of the box I was impressed but after about a month of using this cymbal it lost it's touch that ping that it had the first session I had with it quickly faded away as I played on it more. Now it just rings too much after I hit it, making it difficult to play with. I tried placing half a moon gel on it and it didn't help much. So I would suggest to anyone thinking about buying this cymbal spend the extra 100 bucks and get the APX ride, you won't be disappointed.
I was expecting so much more from Sabian, but they have let me down, as they have many others with this B8 line. It is amazing for beginners, but nor for anyone beyond beginner. Within about 7 or 8 months, the cymbal becomes very rusted, especially if you mute it a lot, and it doesn't even resemble the sound a ride should make. Save your money for something better...
