Let me first start by saying that I have a ton of AAX series cymbals already. 15 & 18" AAXplosions, 16" studio and stage crash. 20" Stage ride. The AAXplosion fast crash however is becoming my favorite one. As mentioned by other reviewers, yes, it is thin, I am not crazy about that but if you don't beat the tar out of it there is no reason it shouldn't last forever. I really like the sound of it though. It is excellent as a fill or accent crash. The attack is sharp and cutting with a fast decay which is why I like it. It makes a statement without being over powering and since it decays fast it doesn't drown out the rest of you next few beats. I placed it right next to my hats so that when I need a fast accent or fill crash it is right there, sounding sweet. One thing that attracted me to this cymbal at GC was that when I would hit the edge of it with my knuckle, and it builds to a VERY nice cresendo. I must of hit that thing 20 times like that just to listen to that beautiful sound. I decided right there that I had to have it. I picked up the 16" model. This cymbal is a must have
This is one of those cymbals that just begs to be hit. The 18" gives a powerful sound without much effort. Awsome sound! Not too dark, not too bright. Great for a "wall" of sound. Warning! This is a very thin cymbal! You can flex it in your hands rather easily... but a very nice fast crash. A bit powerful for a main crash but thats because of the style of music that I play.
The applosion fast crash are very unique crashes under the original applosion crashes. Since they are thin cymbals they have a warmmer sound than the applosion crash which is much more brighter and the pitch tends to take some time to decay, rather than the aax plosion fast crash. These cymbals speak quickly they are not too bright or dark but just prefect because of the weight. I am looking at the 18 or 19 inch since they are the best configuration for my 17'' K.Custom Dark Crash. If you are looking for a great crash that decays fast then this is the crash to buy but get the warranty which saves you from buying another one if the cymbal gets damage.
