I purchased this ride a few months ago to complete my Gretsch drum kit. I had previously been using a Sabian Pro 20" ride, and it was horrible to play. Upgrading my ride to the 21" Sabian AAX Memphis ride was like putting the icing on the cake. I couldn't believe that they actually made a ride that seemed to be made JUST for me. I had been looking for something that I could use in my Metal band and in my Jazz group as well, which is a huge challenge. This cymbal has a great medium wash, but a powerful and piercing stick definition when playing on the outer edge of the cymbal. This is one of those cymbals that changes its sound depending on where you play on it. I can play on the outer edge and get a great medium wash with a strong stick definition or I can move up closer to the bell and it changes everything. It suddenly becomes a higher pitch with an even more piercing stick definition in every hit. When I play on the bell, I get chills down my spine. It is an extremely...pingy sound and it cuts through the rest of the band even at live venues without being mic'd. And don't worry, it doesn't look as gross as it does in the picture. It has a great finish that appears rusty or tarnished with lathed strips that shine in the light!
