Bigger than I expected

By Ken Edwards

from Bakersfield, CA

Comments about SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System:

Just got all my stuff installed in the unit. The top rack was plenty big to hold my Yamaha mixer. I like the rack system in the back as it allows for non essential items to stay out of view. Only two things concern me though. There is no bottom floor in the main section so everything has to be mounted somewhere, ie: wall warts and cables. It's also a little bigger overall than I was expecting but with a little help that shouldn't be a problem. Over all I'm very happy with the product and would recommend it if you have an oversized mixer to accommodate.

Perfect for my Mackie 1640i Gig Rig

By John

from Austin, TX

Comments about SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System:

I looked hard for a rig that would fit my Onyx 1640i without changing the default i/o position on the board. This fits. I have to pull off the back cover in order to plug in the board but that's a no brainer. I would never ship the unit with this. It just makes it easier to move around town. I only gave it 4 stars because it does not have brackets on the rear of the lower portion to mount more units like splitters and such. I will have to rivet my own rack mounts tot he back to accommodate. I did have a problem on the first one I ordered but SKB and GC were great to deal with. I brought the rig back in and they reordered another one without any hassle. Now I'm off to filling in those rack spaces :)

GREAT rack

By AshesDrummer

from Washington DC

Comments about SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System:

SKB's designed an amazing little rack here, Portable, sturdy and amazingly light. Set this up as our monitor deck board with an Allen and Heath Mix Wizard 16x2 and all our IEM transmitters. Love the small footprint that still sits at an appropriate mixing height, with plenty of working space for cables and other storage in back. Would love to see a few more rack spaces on the front (6u is a little tight, 10 would be ideal). Setup is a little funky with having to flip the lid and base around, but well worth it once either collapsed on the road or assembled for stage. Overall the best small format mixer rack I've ever owned.

Plenty of room, but it has its weight limits...

By TexasTim

from Houston, TX

Comments about SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System:

I was looking for something with a lot of slant rack space, and the Gig Rig offers up 14+ U on the top. The ability to use the cover to bring the rack up to working height is a real bonus. As mentioned in another review, this is probably NOT the right rack is you have alot of amp weight, but for me, it's perfect. I have a mixer, light controller, EQ, mixer lights and an AV shelf on the slant rack, so it's LOADED. I only have a power condition and a 3U drawer to store cables and mics in the bottom, (no amp...I use active speakers), so no excess weight issues. The AV shelf is a GREAT add-on for the Gig Rig if you're using any kind of a laptop...

Works very well for me

By Louis Godey

from Sacramento, Ca

Comments about SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System:

Nice and light for it size. I needed something for live sound reinforcement (not a heavy flight case). I use it for a Mackie Onyx 1640 and it fits with room to keep the cables connected. I added rails to the back and it fits all my EQ's, effects, DBX driverack, power conditioner and patch bay. I agree with the other review "Needed Some Mods" heavy rack mount gear would need some additional support, but there is lots of room to do so. The handles and wheels feel nice and solid. The top could use a little more strength, as it would be nice if you could stack 200 lbs on top when it is closed.

Needed some mods

By daviver

from Iowa

Comments about SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System:

Interesting that the web photo for the SKB Mighty GigRig Rolling Rack System shows two yamaha amps mounted in the rack. I own the same amp pictured and I found the rack frame sets too far forward to accommodate the amp grips with the front panel cover on. You can see in the photo the grips project over the two slots that the panel slips into. However this turned out not to be an issue since I found the rack really isn't strong enough to hold two of these amps securely (or even one). Fortunately there is enough empty space in the sides to build a structural steel frame. I removed the rack mount rails, put in about $40 of slotted angle iron and reset rack mount rails deeper and to the steel frame instead of to the plastic walls. I also added some rear anchorage points for the amp. Works fine now and is better balanced for carrying. Nice functional design, just needs much heavier duty hardware.
