After 21 years, I retired my SKB 5 space rack to buy the 3 space shallow rack. The quality is as good or maybe even better than the old one. The material seems a little sturdier, and the latches are even more snug than I remember the old case had when new. If you only carry a couple of pieces, you have 1 more space to expand with later; and it takes up less space in the load. A really great buy to protect your investment in rack gear.
I wanted to rack my 35 lb. 3-space Carvin B1500 bass head, without adding extra weight or size. This is as tight of a fit as it gets for my bass head. I'll have to cut out a half a quarter sized notch on the rear panel to give the XLR DI-output enough room, but I knew that before I bought it. It's a tight enough fit where I don't have room for cables, but this was also by design. At the time of writing this, these are priced at $100. I decided wheels and a telescoping handle were not worth the extra $50. I also bought the Carvin B1500 from the Guitar Center used site. Including the rack, I've invested $500 so far, and Carvin head and rack together is the best investment I've ever made in 15 years of bass playing. I have 1900 [exaggerated] watts @ 2 ohm to play with. These cases do the job just fine,
