Overview

Gauges: .065-.075-.100-.115. Long scale.

The 'Black Nylon Tru Bass' Strings were originally developed to simulate a double bass sound on an electric bass. These RotoSound strings made their most famous appearance on top of the 'Apple' building while Paul McCartney was playing his Hofner bass. You will note that the tension is low, making this string extremely comfortable to play.

I'm doing a total black-out design on an ESP bass, and always liked the feel of flat wounds, so these Rotosound RS88LD black strings sounded like a good choice for the appearance. But I used them with the band last night for the first time and was floored by not only the feel but the sound. First the feel - smooth and silky, the touch and navigation are effortless and fast! Every other string set I've played in the past just felt "routine" and got the job done, but there Roto's were just pure fun! And the sound - usually I have trouble balancing strong lower and upper tones with weak mids on other strings, but everything across the scale on these was strong and equally balanced, the tone both rich and crisp. The sound was SO noticeably better that every guy in the band heard it and commented on how great I sounded. Of course I took credit for that, but the strings felt so great that I'm sure that I did play better. Now be aware - you WILL need to widen the grooves on the nut to receive these wider strings. So get the right tiny round files and carefully widen the slots, but don't go deeper. It IS worth the effort, and the nut will still work for other strings (but you won't want other strings after these!) The quality on these strings is as good as it gets. They are effortless to wind on new, and they stay in tune. Plus they feel like they will last forever. Oh yeah, they LOOK fantastic!

First let me say that the feel and the tone were excellent, however on my particular bass they picked up an incredible amount of EMI noise, so much that I had to take them off. Perhaps if my bass had other pickups or if the strings were through the bridge rather than through the body it may have made some difference, so be advised they do sound great, but may not work on you bass.

Comments about Rotosound RS88LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings:

I have always used RotoSound TruBass strings. They provide sweet, mellow sound along with the finish that allows the player to go on for hours. They are GREAT on my Geddy and my Modulus 25th Anniversary.

Comments about Rotosound RS88LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings:

These RS88LD strings are great! I put them on my Fender J-Bass and they make a world of difference. The guys in the band really like the sound and I really like the way they play! Smooth as silk, no noise from the frets, seem to be much easier on the fingers....require less pressure. Love 'em !!

Comments about Rotosound RS88LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings:

I bought this set of strings for my acoustic Ibanez bass. They sound amazing. I would warn you that these strings are gigantic and you will definitely need to fix your intonation after putting them on, which you can do on an acoustic bass. These strings are really great!

    By George Tanner

Comments about Rotosound RS88LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings:

Ordered Rotosound Trubass for my Fender Jazz Bass. These flatwound strings have a very nice feel and sound is perfect for the big band music. Have had positive comments on the sound quality from both band members and individuals attending performances. Had not received such comments before with round wound strings. Service from Guitar center was super received my strings in 2 days.

Comments about Rotosound RS88LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Bass Strings:

Play in jazz group, Double bass won't fit in my car so I use my guitar basses. Was using a Warwick fretless with roundwounds, but had a Aria Pro in my collection that was begging for new strings. These strings sound great, not quite double bass, but close enough. Word of caution....the nut on my machine had to be worked on to accept these strings.
