read where Geddy Lee used these on his Jazz... got some for my 2010 Amer Jazz... never used this thin of a gauge before... still getting used to them... probably will go back to .45-.105... but for what they are- VERY NICE
I have been playing bass for a long time (about 40 years) and I have always insisted on Rotosound Roundwounds on my Fender P's and J's and a Rick I had for a while. Always have loved the growly, klanky sound of John Entwhistle, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes and Chris Squire and later Geddy Lee and Steve Harris (even though I always play with a Fender Heavy pick; I played guitar first and still do). I'm not a big guy but I have to have a long scale bass so I loook for every little advantage. Right now, I am playing an American Standard Fender Precision with a maple fretboard and replaced the stock parts with Seymour Duncan Basslines 1/4 pounder and a BadAss 2 bridge (all of the above purchased at GC, quick plug for those helpful people). The Rotosound medium gauge not only make playing easier and faster, as opposed to the 50-105 standard gauge, I lose nothing in sound on the low end, the G and D sound great, and I play a lot of chords and chord inversions and the slightly lighter gauge has more clarity. Several people have said something about this brand of string being tough on frets, but after three years on this bass, even after putting on new strings regularly, I see nothing to back this up. I was playing some Rush tab with the mids scooped, the treble up and my Ampeg through an Ibanez PhatHed overdrive stompbox and the sound was spot on!
