Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

I started with the FCB1010, love the 10 nicely spaced buttons and programmibility, but they are so big and heavy. I wish they made one without the expression pedals.
Then I found an ADA MC-1, only 9 buttons (all in a row: tighter spacing and easy to press the wrong button) so smaller than the FCB, but no THRU.
Finally I noticed this pedal, small, 10 well spaced buttons, THRU port, no exp pedals, and a good price. Works great.

      Use with Ableton Live

      By STEVE WRIGHT

      from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

I'm using the MIDI Buddy to control scenes that I've programmed into Ableton Live. The pedal works great. I use it to switch between verse, chorus, bridge and ending scenes. It's a solid, heavy duty product that's stood up to my sometimes overly enthusiastic foot stomps. But there was a little hitch (at least for me) in getting MIDI Buddy and Ableton to work together. I couldn't get Ableton to recognize the MIDI signals from the foot pedal. I finally landed on using Bome's MIDI Translator to translate the incoming MIDI signals from the pedal into key presses that are recognized by Ableton. There's probably a better way to do that, but I couldn't find it.

      Use it with Ableton

      By STEVE WRIGHT

      from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

I was looking for a pedal to use with Ableton so that I could control which scenes to jump to while playing. I've only been using the Midi Buddy for a few weeks, but it's definitely holding up well. It's solidly built, compact and gives a definite "click" when you push a button (as opposed to the mushy response I got from another pedal I tried). I wasn't sure how easy the top row of buttons would be to use, but that's been no problem. You can rest your foot over a top pedal button without accidentally hitting a button on the bottom row. There was a bit of a learning curve in getting it to work with Ableton. I had to get an M-Audio midi-to-USB converter and Bome software. Ableton sees all of the MIDI signals from the pedal as the same hex code. Bome converts the MIDI signal to a key on the PC keyboard, if you use keys to trigger scenes in Ableton. The Rolls web site and manual didn't mention any of this.

      Honest value, great product

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

I looked at, tried and even bought several midi control pedals before settling on this one. I have to say that the Tech 21 midi moose and midi mouse are both good pedals, and are simple to use like this one. Another great feature these three products all share: Phantom power through the midi-cable. That's a HUGE benefit when you want to reduce clutter and eschew batteries. It means you only need one cable running to your foot-controller so set-up is fast and easy; nearly instantaneous.i kept the midi mouse because it is better for my small rig where size and weight reduction were my primary goals. But for flexibility and power, this thing rules! It is approximately 19 inches wide, which is a perfect match for racks. It fits in the back without any problem, so i keep it plugged in and ready to rock. All I have to plug in is the main power cable and my guitar.Another cool feature: the two-tiered switch-layout.You can't see it well from the photos, but the top row of switches is elevated about a half-inch, which makes getting to to switches MUCH easier and secure, especially if it's been a long night with some herbal enhancements or alcohol. The box is all steel, solid as cement but doesn't weigh too much. The manual is easy to read so I got things working within minutes. When you consider the price and features, it's easy to see why so many people choose this pedal for controlling rack rigs.If you need a comprehensive midi-switching system, try this against ANY other, including the nice-but-pricey Roland or the infamous Behringer which always seem to frustrate and annoy users. The three best pedals I have found: Midi Mouse, Midi Moose, and this bad-boy... it's a great machine and a bargain to boot.

      Quality and Value

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

Outstanding piece of gear! Made in USA of real steel! Tough, light and simple. It just changes banks, up or down and has a button for each preset in that bank. Runs off phantom power! There is no warranty, but you don't need one. The chip burned up in mine and I sent it back to the company. I had it back in 6 days, no charge, and I wasn't the original owner. Great product and great support.

      Great Pedal

      By Anonymous

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

I gave this a 5 all around because it can't be beat by any competitor for the price and Rolls deserves some praise. For guitarists, expect sure footed switching and simplicity. I used a rocktron all access prior which was great but very large, heavy, and overkill for guitarist. If you need to toggle between more than 10 sounds in a song, you might be a "footswitch player"... Dude, that show rocked lastnight!... Ya man!, did you see the that guy on the footswitch?... Awesome!!

      GREAT BASIC MIDI PEDAL

      By rbx260plyr

      from Detroit

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

This is a great little pedalboard, as long as you're willing so sacrifice the expression pedal. I use the Behringer, because I use both expression pedals constantly. I wish I had known about this earlier, I would have bought seperate expression pedals in addition to this because of the ease of use of this pedal. It's much simpler and less clunky than the Behringer, but like I said, it lacks the expression pedals and the TRS sends.

It's simple. It works. It's cheap.

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

Rolls is one of those "fringe" companies that doesn't spend much on advertising. That's why they can offer great products at reasonable prices. It's a little "mom-and-pop" shop that just quietly does its thing without any hype, or BS. They make a number of fine products that musicians need. Not only is this midi-pedal one of the best, it is super easy to use and not overpriced, unlike some of the big-name competitors. Unlike Behringer's pedal-board, this Rolls pedal does not utilize any peculiar protocols that inevitably cause confusion, disappointment and frustration. Although Behringer's pedal is also cheap, the manual is a nuisance even for midi-gurus.The Rolls Midi-Buddy manual is only two pages. Even though I am a "Midiot" I was able to decipher and understand this thing in just a few minutes. It isn't too big or heavy, though it is solidly built. Switches are quiet and easy-to-reach, even with my clumsy size-12 shoes. !!! A really great feature is the Phantom Power via midi-cable through pins #1 and #3 !!! That means you do not need a separate wall-wart or batteries if you use a device that has phantom power. Only one midi cable is needed to send patch-changes AND power the pedal. Cool!Rolls ROCKS!

      Excellent pedal

Comments about Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal:

This is a nice pedal. I play in a working band and this is my controller for the effects. Works as it should. The pedals are large enough to get your foot on them without much effort. All around a good value.
