Overview

Travel-ready, affordable, and outfitted with top-level Roland sounds, the V-Combo VR-09 is the ideal all-in-one solution for performing keyboard players. Dedicated piano, organ, and synth sound engines-organized in three intuitive blocks on the front panel-provide all the essential tones you need, right under your fingertips. The powerful real-time controls give you maximum expression on stage, with nine sliders for tone shaping and a large array of knobs and buttons for tweaking the seven simultaneous effects and various parameters. Other great features include an onboard looper, a drum section stocked with a library of rhythms for practice and jamming, and more. With its versatile sound selection, inspiring operation, and smart user interface, the V-Combo VR-09 is a dream come true for gigging musicians.

Intuitive Operation for Expressive Stage Performance
The V-Combo VR-09 was designed from the ground up with the needs of live players in mind. An intuitive front-panel layout and clear LCD screen offers quick access to Roland's top piano, organ, and synth sound engines, along with plenty of real-time controls for expressive tone manipulation. Seven simultaneous effects include rotary, delay, reverb, tone, overdrive, compressor, and customizable MFX, with dedicated knobs that tweak multiple parameters with a single twist for powerful sound shaping with minimal effort. The smart interface makes it simple to set up splits and layers on the fly, and to save all your keyboard settings in user memory locations for instant recall on stage.

Pro Acoustic and Electric Pianos
Piano is a cornerstone sound for live playing, and the V-Combo VR-09 is filled with a wide selection for covering all musical styles. The gorgeous acoustic grand piano features 88-note stereo multi-sampling, delivering pro-level tone that rivals Roland's dedicated stage pianos. Many popular vintage E. Piano sounds are onboard as well, along with complimentary effects such as vintage phaser and tremolo. The compressor-accessible via a dedicated, easy-to-reach knob-transparently boosts the level of the piano sounds, ensuring that your playing always cuts through when performing in loud bands.

World-Class Organs
Roland's renowned SuperNATURAL technology powers the V-Combo VR-09's classic tonewheel organs, while nine harmonic bars provide authentic real-time performance control. A newly developed transistor-type organ is also included, offering the unique sound of combo instruments from the 1960s. The 61-note keyboard has an extremely fast response, perfect for essential organ techniques such as trill, sputter, glissando, and percussive hits. Rotary speaker and amp simulators reproduce the characteristics of vintage organ speaker cabinets and overdriven tube circuits with astounding realism, while a new "Twin Rotary" option delivers a deep, aggressive effect never before heard.

Vintage and Modern Synth Tones
The V-Combo VR-09 is packed with a ton of ready-to-play synthesizer sounds, from vintage analog classics like JUNO strings and ‘80s synth brass to textured, modern-era digital tones and beyond. Front-panel controllers allow you to tweak the synth tones intuitively in real time, including convenient ADR and cutoff/resonance adjustment with the harmonic bars in the ORGAN block. Onboard effects like "Bit Crash" provide the ability to create modern synth voices for current dance music, including dubstep.

VR-09 Editor for iPad
The free VR-09 Editor app for iPad gives you powerful, intuitive control of the organ and synth sound engines via your tablet's full-color touchscreen interface. Quickly edit organ sounds and customize vintage tonewheel characteristics such as leakage, click noise, and rotary speed, and easily access synth sounds to build custom tones and layers. After tweaking sounds at home, you can take your iPad to the gig and use the app for extra real-time control on stage. Convenient, cable-free communication between the V-Combo VR-09 and iPad is simple to set up with Roland Wireless Connect. Alternately, you can link up with a USB cable via Apple's iPad Camera Connection Kit.

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

This is actually 3 keyboards in one and has the capability to mix all three, with fx and value adjustment. I play in a band that offers rock hits from the 60's thru the 90's and this keyboard can accommodate all 4 generations.

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

I'm a guitarist in a band, and sometimes play keys, I really wanted some good piano and vintage organ sounds. I replaced my 35 year old Kawai with this baby, and no regrets. I'm playing keys a lot more and our band can play a lot more songs than before. The best part is I don't have to try to figure out how to program a sound from scratch, just find something close and tweak. Even though I program computers for a job, for some reason, I just want something plug and play for keys. This fits the bill. Maybe my expectations are low, but I also really like many of the horns (trumpet, sax, oboe) and some of the strings. The built in looper is fun, but need more than 20 seconds for a good 12 bar blues loop. Also If you make an error, you have to start over. I'll just stick with my Boss Loop Station.

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

I have other keyboards with Hammond sounds including the SK2. I like this unit because it is about 1/3 weight of the SK2 and gives me very realistic sounds. It is actually someone easier to operate than the SK2. And about 1/3 the price. I plan on taking this to last minute jam sessions/performances when I don't want to lug around my heavier SK2. I'm not giving up the SK2 but this is great for quick bag and go. Just don't forget your speakers because it doesn't have internal ones. Another thing to watch out for is for midi in, it is quite limited as it cannot select your presets. It can handle external midi note of you want to use an external lower keyboard. Just don't count on too many midi in functionality or custom midi chanlle selections. This is likely the best kept secret of the hammond drawbar organs and by far the least expensive solution. Of course you are also giving up waterfall action keys but for the price, it certainly can't be beat.

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

Let me start by saying I've owned and played most every Hammond and Hammond "clone" keyboard out there. Hammond's SK-1 came close to replicating a real Hammond and especially the Leslie effect, but at around two grand for the board alone, plus half again that much for a Neo Vent Leslie effect box, the Roland VR-09 at under half of that cost seemed a logical alternative. How good is this? Honestly, if I put the VR-09 against the SK-1 at the same time, the VR-09 actually sounds more realistic and true. Plus the Hammond just never cut through the mix on stage as well as this Roland does. The Roland's more "gutsy", more "ballsey"--thicker, if you will, and the drawbar pitches are spot-on.

I can't comment on the other features of this board as I purchased it primarily as my "Hammond on stage", however the limited use of the pianos, strings, horns, etc. seem to indicate a higher level of accuracy when compared to the SK-1.

For the money, you can't beat this board if you are looking for an inexpensive and lightweight Hammond clone.

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

I bought the VR09 after seeing all the on-line videos. For the money its a steal. Great action and sounds - if your are a B3 player you can tweak the VR09 to get the sound you want. Also just add any Midi controller and you have a double deck B3

You can add leakage - key click - rotor and woofer speeds etc.

And you can carry it in one hand!

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

I got this keyboard because I was tired of lugging my Yamaha Motif ES7 around to gigs. I owned a Roland keyboard before and was always impressed with their sound and overall quality. I was definitely not disappointed with this keyboard. The sound is great. The voice selection is a bit limited compared with my Motif, but the sounds it has are top notch. I really like the organ section and clonewheel emulation. My only complaint is that the feel of the keys is quite stiff and take some getting used to. However, once you get the feel for it, it's a great keyboard. 12 pounds is also a lot less to lug around to gigs!

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

really not bad for price..but what works action wise for organ no good for piano..there seems to be a gap between touching keys and piano sounding..also on an action this light need more flexibility on velocity CURVES..it would fool your brain into thinking the action was better.. also what would make this perfect is either same case with 61 waterfall keys or w 73 keys..its almost too light (yeah I know, shouldn't complain!) for live work as it can jump or get knocked off the stand during performances.the Rhodes are fantastic, but you SORELY need depth control on the efx..on trem for Wurly for instance only slow and fast but trem is way too deep and it affects the attack..comp doesn't help..nitpicking I know, and organs are close but still not as good as Hammond XKs..I know diff price pt but youre almost there..waiting for 73-76 waterfall keys in the same case (slightly longer I realize..but really not bad board for the beans :)

          Pound-forPound Greatest Value !!!

          By Joe

          from Georgetown, MA

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

This keyboard at its $ selling price is the best new purchase I've ever made. For months I was searching for a portable solution for my tonewheel organ needs. My criteria: Authentic sound, lightweight, solid rotary effect, and drawbars a must (which limited my choices). I went back and forth between the Nord and Hammond offerings, then I accidentally stumbled across the VR-09. When I first saw the price I thought I need to rule this out because how can it be this good at 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the competitors. After more research I figured I have to give it a try. Wow! incredible the VR-09 more than satisfies all criteria, and I have the bonus of great piano, electric piano, synth etc... plus a looper, recorder, effect...soooo much! I would've been thrilled with just the clonewheel portion. It's crazy to me that this VR-09 isn't more well known.

A great keyboard for the money!!

          By Daniel

          from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about Roland VR-09 V-Combo Organ:

As one of the other reviewers wrote, it is surprising this keyboard doesn't get more attention. My ratings are: Controls: Excellent layout; very intuitive especially for playing live. The biggest problem are the controls feel a little fragile. However, there is really no other keyboard out there that gives semi-real drawbars at this price level. Keyboard: Also feels a little fragile, but otherwise it quiet enough to play comfortably sitting at home (unlike my Nord!), and decent feeling action. Sounds: Synths: Excellent Organ: pretty good; certainly good enough in a band situation. Pianos: so-so, but again good enough in a band (i.e., not so strong by itself).
