The best for a home studio and studying

By Gabriel

from Oak Creek - WI

This drum set is amazing for keep at your apartment and practice and record. It's really easy to set up and is really comfortable to play. The sound presets are ok. Nothing different for any other roland drums, so what is really good is the structure and quality.

Sound is great, but the pads need more rebound

By Stephen

from Wooster, OH

From a portability perspective the TD-4KP certainly delivers, just as the reviews I?ve read and those I watched on YouTube indicated. The sound they make is incredible, particularly given their modest size. From a playability standpoint however my opinion differs from most other reviewers. I find that I really have to ?work? to play this kit as it requires me to more actively ?pull? the sticks up off the pad rather than relying on the rebound. For the past few days I played them for about 20 minutes each time and felt a bit worn out. But my viewpoint may be skewed by what I?m used to. In addition to my acoustic kits I?ve played on mesh heads found on Roland?s TD-4, 9, 12 and 20 kits, each of which I?ve owned previously. I currently own a TD-30 with PD-125/PD-105 drum pads. But I?ve also played on Roland PD-8 rubber pads as well as other rubber practice pads and find them much easier to play than those on the TD-4KP. One other reviewer on the GC site said that ??the bass could be a little louder.? I found this to be true for most of the drum and cymbal pads. While wearing headphones I had to crank the volume up to at least 90% to get the volume where I wanted it which was not particularly loud. Therefore I adjusted the ?sensitivity? setting upwards on each pad which did help somewhat. But doing so reduces the velocity sensitivity range meaning that the linear dynamic range for each pad is reduced. In other words, striking a pad is either relatively quiet or relatively loud with not much difference in-between. Note that prior to making these changes I did a factory reset on the TD-4 module, but it didn?t make any difference in the volume. Primarily because of what I consider to be less than desirable rebound I plan to return the kit to GC. The other reason is the lack of volume and subsequent workaround I had to do with pad sensitivity adjustments that diminished my overall playing experience. I?m disappointed as I really wanted to love this kit. All that said, for the drummer just starting out or one with a very tight budget, this could be a near perfect electronic kit. Roland gear is top notch.

Fun! By Samantha Harris, age 12

By Sammi

from Pasadena, CA

It's a very good drum set because I can play without disturbing others in the house. I like the sound quality, although the bass could be a little louder. I had to order the bass pedal & beater separately, so it would be nice if was all part of one set to begin with. But overall, it's very satisfactory and I am enjoying practicing on it.

needs work on padding

By boone

from austin,texas

I like the set pretty well. I don't get as much rebound on the pads and the volume with headphones i would like to be louder. But other than that portability is pretty awsome.

Perfect Beginner Set

By Fred Vint

from Oklahoma City

I have an 8 year old son who really started to get into playing his Yamaha 7 pad board. So instead of getting him a "real" kit that would drive his mother crazy, we went to Guitar Center and tried out this unit (as well as some much bigger Roland units) and he liked it. So we brought it home and set it up. I'm not a drummer, but he has taken to this kit and is getting pretty good. it is the perfect size and has enough sounds and options that it keeps him interested. He plays it everyday (and we've had it for nearly 8 months). While it was a little expensive, it was EXACTLY what this budding drummer needed to get better and keep his interest. It has heId up very well and am impressed with the quality and the one time I had to email tech support. I would recommend this to any beginner, especially a child if you can afford it.

Great for a practice kit!

from Atlanta, GA

I bought this e-kit strictly for practice and for its convenience of being a portable drum kit. I already own a Roland TD12 but this kit here is the only portable one I've seen so far. I travel at times and take this kit along with me so I don't miss out on practice. Plus being an e-kit, I just plug my headphones in so I don't have to worry about disturbing others. It also offers a mix in port to plug in an iPod, laptop, etc. This kit is ideal for its portability, also has a carry case for an additional cost. Granted its an e-kit and doesn't have the same feel/sound as an acoustic kit, however, you can purchase the Roland add-on PDX-6 or PDX-8 which offers the mesh head feel which is a bit better than the rubber pad for the snare drum. If you're tight on space, this kit is also ideal being it does not take up a lot of room. I would NOT recommend this as a gigging kit, however. I may be a bit prejudice when it comes to playing e-kits live though. I strictly look at them as a practice kit.

Pretty Good Tool

By Sedale McCall

from Rockville, MD

Pros: Triggers work pretty well fast or slow. Hi-Hat pedal can use some work with responsiveness (opening and closing quickly is a challenge) but otherwise pretty good. Adding music is pretty easy Coach/Quick record functions are extremely helpful and useful. Cons: Pads are pretty loud if you need to play quietly/you live in an apartment. Haven't figured out how to record music and playing at the same time. Overall it's a great product but definitely not an end-goal
