Pretty good technology but expensive

Comments about Roland V-Cymbal Crash for TD-30KV:

Got this as an added cymbal to my new TD-30KV kit. The cymbal technology has come a long way since I bought my old Simmons SDS-8 practice kit decades ago. The "rubbery" feel is a little different from real cymbals, but you get used to it. The bell and edge zones are nice and the sound from the module is really good. For practice without disturbing anyone, these are outstandingly quiet to even the hardest strike. These cymbals, like the entire TD-30KV set, are the quietest things to play I could ever imagine. In your headphones you hear concert sound and outside the room, nothing. The only real shortcoming is just the sensitivity. You still can't do some very subtle nuances with them like you can with a real cymbal. Also, the choking is kind of weird. It does choke, but you have to pinch your fingers really hard to trigger the choke and the choke trigger is really thick on the underside of the cymbal. It is a very strange feeling and I think the sensitivity of the choke trigger on the underside of the cymbal needs to be upped by 10X. You REALLY have to grab hard. It isn't natural and prevents you from doing a very quick cymbal chokes in the middle of rapid patterns. Real cymbals you can do a lightning-fast and feather-light pinch with your fingers and the mute is instant. You absolutely can NOT do that with these. It simply takes too much effort and time to reach up and pinch the cymbal that hard. Still, the technology is pretty impressive and for general practice use they are fine. I'm sure in time it will get even better.
