Best at it's price range

By Sean

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

I bought this kit as a second resort to a much higher model, which was out of stock. This kit proved to be the best in it's price range. The pads respond well to even the slightest touch and the module produces realistic drum samples. The cymbal almost act as a 3-zone pad..bow, edge and if you hit it hard enough, it produces a bell sound much like a 3-zone cymbal pad would if you hit the middle. All the toms have dual trigger capabilities but you can't use them because the module only handles single zone for toms. I connected a midi device with 7 pads in attempt to have more cymbal sounds. You can only assign whatever are already assigned to your TD3 pads which I thought wasn't good. It's basically triggering the same sounds from a different pad which defeats the purpose of having more pads. Overall, I think I could get used to this kit and I don't regret choosing it over a higher model.

Never Disappointed

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

I have had this kit for about a year now and have had absolutely no complaints. The main thing i would like to state is that the versatility of this kit is incredible. I have it currently mixed through out my acoustic set using Roland triggers on my kicks and my snare and the pads are placed conveniently around the kit as sample pads (rather than a single square with 9 pads on one like other samplers). The TD-3 module doesn't have all the sounds in the world but easily hooks up via midi to any sound source( Reason, Logic, Cakewalk, Cubase, Keyboards, etc.)The module also allows modifications to reduce crosstalk between triggers and the ability to set thresholds of your liking with a click of a button. The pads have had a rough beating over the past 12 months and show no damaged or wear. I'm looking now to buy another Roland kit and recommend to anyone looking for an electric kit to practice with or sample pads.

Very good set

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

I've had this kit for a year and a half and I love it. This was my first electronic kit after playing acoustic drums for 35 years. Living in an apartment, it became a necessity. I bought a Roland keyboard amp for live performances. If I close my eyes, I feel I am playing an acoustic set. I always hated electronic drums but I've changed my mind. I can program two tom toms as congas and play patterns that sounds like a drummer with a conga player.

Replaces my Acoustic

By Rythym

from CT

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

My previous set was a Pearl 5 piece, expanded with toys. Once I became a "professional" musician (ie, getting paid to play), I decided to go with an electric set for 2 reasons: It's easy to tote to and from gigs; and the multitude of sounds gives me great variety to choose from. I can carry everything in two trips: my seat, pedals, sticks, etc. in one trip; and then the whole rest of the set. I'm not a big guy by any means, and I can handle the whole set with ease- it's light. I can fold the set up easily and fit it in my small 4dr's trunk with the seats down. My guitarist is STILL amazed after weeks that I can setup from car to stage and playable in about 5 minutes. Try doing that with a "real" kit! The sound is better than I expected and I can mimic lots of different sets from traditional to jazz to (god-forbid) hip-hop. The feel is wonderful and while I love the mesh snare, the toms are just as nice. If there's one downside, it's that sometimes I think the hi-hat doesn't trigger. That has happened very briefly and only twice. It may have been a loose cable. Also, the thing came packaged in as much cardboard weight as the drums themselves. Roland went a bit overboard there! Lastly, with all the practicing I'm doing, I'm sure the wife enjoys that I can put on headphones and not bother anyone!

Good for the Money

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

I have had this kit for almost a year, and I love it. The only thing bad thing is I cant get the rim shots to work. Everything else works fine. I have it in my house, and you can only hear the pounding of the bass downstairs. It is easy to move and very light. I would recommend this drum set to anyone who likes a smooth quiet electronic set.

You can do better for the price!

By Michael

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

You are paying for the Roland name here! The dual trigger mesh and tom pads are excellent Roland quality. Multi-zone cymbals are also very good as far as e-cymbals are concerned. However, the TD-3 module is so limited in sounds and features. I could find only one good kick and possibly two good snare sounds in the entire sound library. For the price, you can definitely do better with a Yamaha DTXpress IV. If you must have a Roland, consider getting a TD-6 instead (it costs more but has 10 times as many sounds).

Awesome Drum Set

By BenZy

from Meridian, ID,

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

I have had this drumset for 8 months so far. I had a Yamaha before it; it was okay, it put up with a lot of hammering but overall I would not reccomend Yamaha electronic drums. This Roland set is almost completely flawless. It takes in some of the hardest hits (I play a lot of rock) without any damage. Naturally, there is a considerable amount of drumstick marks. All the pads, especially the mesh snare have great response and playability. The cymbals have good sounds and feel, but one problem I have is the ride. It's too quiet, even when I turn its individual trigger's volume up. And the velocity-sensitive bell is pretty annoying. I like good raw, powerful rides like the one Steven Adler uses in "Paradise City" by Guns and Roses, so when I hit hard, I get the bell sound instead of the bow sound. I have played many other electronic drumsets and Roland is ultimaltely superior to any other company. Keep in mind that this drumset does not come with a bass pedal. I have a DW 7000 single pedal which works very well. I have had no problems with this drumset and I highly reccomend it.

Just picked it up....GREAT BUY!

By Arihn

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

I recently purchased this kit as my first electronic set. It is simply amazing. The clarity and overall quality of the drum sounds included with this kit are like nothing I could have imagined. It took me about 45 minutes to set up, and I immediately hooked up my Ipod and began to play along with my favorite artists. I literally could not tell the difference between the drum track from the song I was playing along with and the beat I was playing. This set is well worth the money and it will not let you down!

Best kit at the price level!

By asimpleman

from Lakeville, MN

Comments about Roland TD-3SW V-Compact Electronic Drum Set w/aluminum rack:

This is my first electronic kit after playing an acoustic TAMA Star Classic for 5 years in a small garage band. The sound is incredible either through a good set of headphones or a simple keyboard amp. The feel is a lot more like an acoustic kit than I could have imagined, the responsiveness is tight, and the options allow you to vary to your playing style with ease. Through many hours of performance, I've had not a single miss trigger, cross talk, or skips. Wow! I tried nearly every mid range electronic kit on the market from Alesis to Simmons as well as the Yamaha kits. The results were far from the same across the board. For the little extra money, the Roland was the only choice for me. After many long hours of research via the internet, I'm certan I made the right choice for the money. The cymbals and pads allow for the most explosive, clear sounds in comparison to the others, and of course, the dual zone w/ choke capabilities play well into my style. The mesh snare head w/ dual zone sounds as good as any acoustic I've played, and you certainly get a better feel than with that of a simple rubber pad. The brain at this price level is very simple, and does not allow for a great deal of sound options (no voice etc.), but that option never made my list of criteria so I'm very happy overall. You can still create and store custom kits, which was an option highest on my list. The stand is as solid as a rock, and holds up to the most rigorous of playing styles with ease. It's light weight, compact, has a cross-member support, and the cymbal and pad fasteners have held securely over many hours of playing under various styles, formats, and tempos. This kit allows for precision practice, performs flawlessly with a double bass pedal, and has been great at smaller venues where the transport of the full range acoustic kit would not be practical or convenient. Play on the kit has been somewhat of a struggle starting out in getting a proper feel for the high hat, but the options available permit a wide range of playing styles. After quality time spent in "tweaking" the layout of the pads and cymbals as well as the rack, smoothness of play has more than matched that of the acoustic. If you can afford to spend a little more "dough", the Roland will not disappoint.
