Overview

Previously, the only avenue to an authentic piano sound and touch was a large, heavy, and hard-to-carry keyboard. Now, with the RD-64 Digital Piano, stage and studio players can enjoy Roland's acclaimed piano features in a compact, travel-friendly instrument. SuperNATURAL Piano technology powers ultra-expressive acoustic piano tones, while the 64-note Ivory Feel-G keyboard provides a true weighted-action playing feel. Also onboard is a selection of SuperNATURAL-based vintage EPs, plus essential clav and organ tones. Controller mode instantly turns the RD-64 into a flexible MIDI master keyboard, with a special one-touch setup that unlocks the SuperNATURAL sound potential in a connected INTEGRA-7 sound module or JUPITER-80/-50 synth. Streamlined and mobile, the RD-64 delivers piano-action performance and impressive versatility for live playing, on-the-go composing, home studios, teaching labs, and beyond.

Streamlined and Travel-Ready
With the RD-64, gigging players now have access to a compact, weighted-action stage piano that's as easy to transport as a synthesizer. The streamlined, lightweight design fits easily in small vehicles and takes up less space on crowded stages, plus it makes fly dates less costly and more convenient for touring musicians. It also works great as a high-quality, space-saving keyboard for home studios, teaching labs, and mobile composing. The optional CB-61L Carrying Bag is a perfect match for the RD-64, providing durable protection when you're on the move.

SuperNATURAL Piano and Other Essential Sounds
The RD-64 features Roland's acclaimed SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine for top-level acoustic piano tones, plus a selection of expressive SuperNATURAL-based electric pianos. The rich, ultra-responsive sounds have a wide dynamic range with seamless variations in tone, delivering pro results for stage playing and studio recording. Also onboard are a number of clav and organ sounds, giving performing keyboardists the essential sounds they need for playing a wide range of music styles.

Ivory Feel-G Keyboard
The 64-note Ivory Feel-G keyboard in the RD-64 incorporates Roland's most advanced sensor technology, escapement mechanism, and Ivory Feel features. This gives you the superior touch, sensitivity, and appearance of the keyboards found in their flagship 88-note pianos, right down to the unique key material that replicates the authentic texture and moisture-absorbing properties of real ivory and ebony. Combined with the SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine, the Ivory Feel-G offers expressivity and performance that rivals high-end instruments.

Effects and More
Onboard effects include a high-quality stereo reverb, plus EFX 1 and EFX 2 processors that provide sweetening specifically tailored to each of the RD-64's tone categories. Options include enhancer and damper resonance for grand piano sounds, tremolo and phaser for EPs, and many more, with quick on/off access via easy-to-reach buttons. There's even a dedicated rotary effect for the organ, featuring on/off and speed controls for authentic organ performance. A two-band EQ is provided for overall sound shaping, with easy adjustment on the fly via two convenient knobs. Stereo RCA inputs allow you to connect a music player for live backing tracks and practicing.

Advanced Controller Features
In a flash, Controller mode* turns the RD-64 into a powerful master keyboard outfitted with assignable knobs, buttons, pitch bend/mod lever, and the famous D-BEAM, perfect for controlling synths and other devices on stage and in the studio. Additionally, the one-touch SuperNATURAL button automatically assigns the RD-64's controllers to fully utilize the massive expressive potential of the SuperNATURAL tones in Roland's INTEGRA-7 sound module and JUPITER-80 / JUPITER-50 synthesizers.

*When the RD-64 is used in Controller mode, the onboard tones are not available.

I absolutely love this keyboard. As many have said, it's a "meat and potatoes" board, which is what I have been looking for. Simple, to-the-point, killer sounds, easy-as-can-be user interface (no menus), portable and compact. I think all the sounds are fantastic, piano, Rhodes, Wurli, Clav, Hammond... all really good. The Clav really shines when you put it through a Wah and ovberdrive pedal, although Clav variation 2 with both onboard effects on (autowah and overdrive) is actually pretty nice even without stompboxes. Yeah, there are no drawbars, but the available organ tones are really all I need. Variation 1 is a jazzy, Jimmy Smith, 888000000 draw registration with percussion, Variation 2 is a nice rock organ with a little OD, 3 is a full draw gospely type of vibe. The acoustic and electric pianos are amazing. You can't adjust the reverb, it's just on or off, but I think they dialed in just the right amount. I really like the action. It took just a little getting used to for the organ tones of course, but after a few days I was able to adjust sufficiently. And it's perfect for the rest of the sounds. Some have said they don't like it's looks, but I do. Just simple, black, not flashy. I don't like all the red and silver boards that seem to be popular these days. But maybe that's just me. Anyway, as I said, I'm very happy with the RD64. I've pracitced and gigged with it, and it has been a lot of fun. Simple set up, no messing around with menus, and great tones. 5 stars.

I need to determine is what I am hearing is a defect. I need to experiment more to determine whether there are other defects, The defect i am hearing is in the organ. Playing the right hand I get a very nice crisp almost xylophone entry into the organ tone. As I play chords or hold chords on the left hand the right hand notes suddenly lose the crisp intro and sound weak and fuzzy altogether. This, therefore void me from using it to accompany a singer. I hope this is a defect that can be fixed, if not I am looking to trade. The selection is already narrow, and I accept that. But to narrow it further does not give me the range of voices I need.

It is perfect for my church meeting since the stage is not that big. Good quality of sounds and touch feel.
The only thing I don't like is that when I switch between piano and electric piano, volume changes!

Comments about Roland RD-64 Digital Piano:

This is a great tool for me in my home studio . I am a bass player of many years and have always had a home studio with drums , PA , the whole bit . I like to make it easy for band mates to come practice with out hauling gear and I also love playing around on a piano . This is a great one for my purpose and the 2 different pro piano/ keyboard players I rehearse with regularly both love it , one of them even bought one for himself . Great tool at a great price.

This Keyboard is great for simpler gigs where you don't need a synth. The Organ sounds give it a nice variety as well as the Clav. I can use this as a nice change from playing Guitar all night.
It is also a lot lighter than my studio Keyboard.
Several friends played it and said they would buy one as well.
