Overview

The Roland 3W 1x5" MICRO CUBE GX combo amp gives you the same tone and versatility that you've come to know and love in the CUBE Series, and puts it in a battery-powered package that you can take anywhere. It features recording/Headphones output and stereo Aux input for MP3/CD players, etc. The MICRO CUBE GX can be powered on batteries (LR6 (AA) type x 6) or a supplied AC adapter. It also includes a carrying strap.

Rock for Hours on Batteries
The MICRO CUBE GX features the same ultra-compact footprint, battery-powered operation, and big tone that made the original MICRO CUBE such a massive hit around the globe. With up to 25 hours of playing time using six NiMH AA-size batteries, you can enjoy uninterrupted fun while jamming at home, at the beach, on camping trips, at parties-wherever! Increased power output delivers even better performance than before, and a chromatic tuner is built in, eliminating the need to carry an external tuner when you play.

8 Classic and Modern Amp Models
Filled with Roland's renowned COSM amps, the MICRO CUBE GX provides tones for playing any musical style, from ultra-clean jazz to heavy rock and everything in between. The newly added Extreme amp kicks things up a notch, giving you a massive voice for crushing, in-your-face metal riffs. There's also a MIC setting for using the amp with a vocal microphone. Five different EFX types are available to sweeten your sound, with a new Heavy Octave effect that works great for adding unique, ultra-low power to distorted tones. An independent Delay/Reverb processor is onboard as well, with a newly added spring reverb option for authentic surf and roots-rock sounds.

High-Quality Effects
There's no need to lug around pedals when the MICRO CUBE GX comes with eight DSP effects. All the essentials are included-from chorus and flanging to a phaser and tremolo effect. A separate Delay/Reverb processor lets you dial in anything from slapback and long delays to reverb and more (in addition to using one of the aforementioned modulation effects).

Total Recall
The new Memory function turns the MICRO CUBE GX into a dual-channel amp, greatly increasing its versatility. It couldn't be simpler to use-just dial up the amp tone and effects you want, hold the Memory button for a few seconds, and your settings are saved! After that, you can toggle between the saved setup and the current knob settings with a quick button press. Use it for saving a favorite sound, switching between rhythm and lead tones, or calling up a special sound for a particular song or style.

Features
  • Power: 3W
  • Ultra-compact portable DSP guitar amp with 5-inch speaker
  • Runs on battery or AC power (adapter supplied) and includes carry strap
  • i-CUBE LINK jack provides simple audio interfacing with Apple's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (interface cable included)
  • 8 COSM guitar amp models including JC-120 and a special mic preamp model
  • 8 DSP effects: chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo and separate Delay/Reverb

I recently purchased a Roland Micro Cube GX from Guitar Center, as well as an Audio-Technica ATR-35S lavalier microphone (from elsewhere on the Internet). This combo really sounds nice for the Ocarina, Native American Flute, and Recorder :)

The amplifier features several audio effects, including reverb and chorus. The reverb really sounds nice for Ocarina/Native American Flute/Recorder playing.

Several of the effects are distortion and overdrive, which isn't really usable for the above instruments, but it is quite useful for my blues harmonicas (to get that "dirty" blues harmonica sound).

I also purchased an American DJ F2 Par bag (from elsewhere on the Internet) to tote the amplifier and accessories around in, as well as a set of spare tie clips and foam windscreens for the Audio-Technica ATR-35S lavalier microphone, just to have a few extras on hand.

I had the old Micro Cube 4 years and used it on small gigs with my acoustic guitar. It was great. Saw ad for new Microcube, so I traded in the old model for this new one. It arrived and I noticed it was much lighter in weight than the old model. I loved the on/off switch on the new model. It was on top, not in the back of the unit. In the dimly lit clubs I worked in, I had a hard time finding that little on/off button. I tried to open the battery cover to put in the batteries. You have to push down on two plastic tabs. At first I could not get it opened. When I pried it open, I noticed that the battery cover was thin plastic, not a heavier well made one like on the original. The old cover closed like a door on a Rolls Royce. I noted the printed lettering on the controls was printed very small, much small than the easy to see lettering on the old model. I had to squint to see the lettering on the controls. I was disappointed with the sound as well. Looks like this unit has a bit more power, but the quality of sound was not as good as the old model in my opinion. I returned it and bought the Street Cube by Roland. Roland makes great amps but I think they cut corners to make the newer model less expensive to make. There was nothing wrong with the old model. I will look for another old model soon.

I'm not too good at these reviews, but with little experience I have with amps, I think this one is ok. Maybe I just need to give it some time and learn more about adjusting the sound for Classical guitar. ...
... if anyone has suggestions, please reply to my review. I need ideas. Thank you.

The one thing that I wasn't aware of is that it's an 1/8 inch jack out for direct recording. The older model I have was standard 1/4 inch jack out. Other than that, it sounds great for what it's worth.

Comments about Roland Micro Cube GX 3W 1x5 Battery Powered Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had the first version of this amp years ago until the tone pot broke and it's impossible to fix the chip it's soldered to. And now I've had this one, the newer iteration of the microcube.
I LOVE this amp..The only issue is that the blackface setting is way lower than the Vox or more distorted ones. Yes I know gain makes it louder but the knobs being set the same its way too different. Also the clean blackface is too low volume in general. The vox setting is killer. The Marshall setting is bad.It has harmonics that are off and it makes you sound out of tune..Old model cube was also like this..The boogie setting is good and the shredder setting is good if you play that. Anyway..Still love this amp. I have five vintage fenders of all sizes and still just plug into this...Of course I'm in an apartment so it makes sense. Buy this amp! It's great! Seriously.
