Overview

Roland sets a new standard in music production power and flexibility with the MV-8800. Based on the Roland MV-8000 that has been a coveted centerpiece for many of the world's greatest hip-hop and R&B producers, the MV-8800 adds even more power to create massive grooves and sinuous beats.

Synthesis, Sampling, Recording, Mixing, Mastering
The MV-8800 is a fully equipped sampler and synthesizer with parameters that can be edited and automated with the assignable sliders and/or with a VGA monitor and mouse (VGA monitor optional, mouse included). It's also an advanced multitrack recorder equipped with an automated 24-channel stereo mixer and mega effects processor. Mastering tools are provided as well, including a parametric mastering EQ, enhancer, expander, multiband compressor, mastering limiter and soft-clip algorithm with output dithering.

Sound Library Onboard
Create your own sounds or load up to 128 instruments or drum kits at once from the MV-formatted sound library that's pre-installed on the hard drive. Newly created drum kits are provided, including a special collection of 16 vintage drum machines such as the legendary Roland TR-808 and TR-909. Acoustic and electric pianos, strings, guitars, horns, synth basses and other essential instruments are also included.

Amazing Pitch & Time Control
Load hundreds of loops, hits, or vocal phrases at once, all with realtime BPM matching. Just tap the tempo, and all the samples lock to your new tempo! You can match the pitches of melodic phrases just as easily. Create loop-based tracks on the fly, all locked together in perfect pitch and time sync.

Vintage & Modern Effects
An incredible lineup of modern and vintage effects is built into the MV-8800, including models of classic Roland SRV reverbs, SDD-320 Chorus, SBF-325 Flanger, Boss BF-2 and HF-2 pedals, and the legendary RE-201 Space Echo. The MV-8800's multi-effects processor includes an Analog Modeling Bass that turns the MFX engine into a virtual SH-style bass synthesizer. All MFX knob tweaks can be automated as you mix.

I own this product and it is great for working within a studio enviroment, it does so much more than I ever imagined, but, as far as using the MV for any form of live stage or show purposes, it failed miserably, even with the internal fan that cools it down, once it over heats, it basically is worthless, nothing works, then shuts down! again, good studio piece, going to buy an akai for live use!

Some people are just don't know..

By Blazinhot Productions

from North Carolina

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

Some people just don't know all of the features this machine have so they make assumptions to quickly. I have read that you cannot change the resolutions so it looks bad on large screens. Incorrect. I have mine on a 32 inch flat panel and it looks great! You absolutely can change the resolution under one of the menu options. I have read that there is a timing issue. This is also incorrect. You have the option of turning on or off the quantization. I also have a MPC 1000 with it took me a lot longer to preform the exact same task I perform on this machine in seconds. You be the judge and try it out in the store. Ask questions and you won't be disappointed.

DON'T BUY THE MPC INSTEAD, GET AN MV!

By Low Frequency Abduction

from Hull (North-East), United Kingdom

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

To some people (who can't be bothered to learn something new), I guess the MV-8800 may seem a little too deep and complex, but it's really not. It's an excellent production studio that does more than any MPC ever has and doesn't fix you to any way of working, as it's very flexible. I've owned six MPC's in the past 9 years and nothing comes close to the MV-8800. Roland is selling out fast. Here in the UK, you can't get hold of a new one (if you haven't pre-ordered it) until February 2008! The MPC-4000 is so good, it's officially discontinued as of today, so if you want to roll with the newer, bigger dogs, get an MV-8800!

my most crucial piece of equiptment

By wickedmystickmuzick

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

i recently bought the ROLAND MV8800 atfer seeing it at the ASCAP expo. this baby is loaded. it cuts days off of my writing time due to the ease of sequencing and beat making. the only problem that i have encounrtered is that if you want to do any major projects, you have to upgrade the ram from 128 to 512mb. the sound is excellent.its great to have a machine that you can write, sample, mix, master and burn your cd in one package. also, the roland corporation is glad to help with any questions or problems. the manual is very informative as well.

MV-8800 The Good, BAD, and Ugly

By Dirty Mouth Records

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

Good: I purchased the MV-8800 the day it went on the self and I must admit that the purchase was worth every dollar. The puppy has the complete line-up of all the Roland products placed into one complete package. Lets not forget the hard hitting 8008 and 1200 drums kits and samples that come preinstalled with about 60 or other full patch kits. If you want to make hard hitting tracks like the professionals. This maybe your first and last piece of equipment that you may ever have to purchase. Bad: The 8800 comes ready to be connected to any VGA monitor. The Resolution cant be control and is set to about 400 x 600 and looks bad on montiors over 14 inches. although they made a great attempt to make this windows friendly. There is still room for much improvement. The ugly: There are none....

BUY THE MPC INSTEAD!

By M

from Atlanta

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

I own this machine and it's a quality peice of equipment, but if you want to roll with the big dogs, save yourself some trouble and go ahead and buy the MPC4000plus. I don't know what this other guy is talking about up hear saying it has all the sounds you need and some 'hot' 808's. Yeah right, if you wanna make some rinky-dink-records tracks! Haha. The preloaded sounds aren't important anyway, if you're trying to make hot tracks you'll never use them. So thats my two cents. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

MV-8800

By Da-Mos-i

from Newark Nj

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

I've been using the Mpc 2000XL for 7 years never had a problem with it once, but just got bored with it After seeing what the Roland MV-8800 was capable of doing. After purchasing the MV-8800, I was blown away by the sound, the kicks hit hard!! and all the other sounds are good. The MV can do everything the MPC can, plus a whole lot more. I love my MV and cant see myself going back to AKai. I can tell Roland put a lot of thought and time in developing this product. I dont own a MPC 4000 but I've worked on one a few times and I find the MV-8800 to be superior. Get the MV-8800 you wont regret it just take time to read the manual... PeAcE! Da-Mos-i

A musicians dream come true

By Scottie of The Forest

from Portland, OR

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

This thing can flat out do everything other than make me a sandwich. Ive always wanted a full on recording studio in a box that had the ability to operate with the simplicity of a computer based music sequencer.

MV-8800 review

By DJ Stereo/Pigeon Toed Entertainment

from Chicago,IL

Comments about Roland MV-8800 Production Studio:

I purchased my MV-8800 about 3 weeks ago, and I cannot stay away from it. The new features like built in vga, color screen, and the vintage kits are WORTHY of purchase by themselves. The libraries of sound compressors are incredible. I would recommend reading the manual, but I would check out MV-Nation, that forum is VERY helpful! This machine has more in depth features than the MPC-4000 but you guys be the judge of that. The more Im on my MV-8800 the more things I learn. GET THIS MACHINE!!!
