Great instruments, nice sound

By Nick

Comments about Roland Lucina AX-09 Shoulder Synthesizer:

I oredered the Lucina from my local GC, and just recieved it. It's a great instrument and very versatile. The sound quality, although through an amp, is wonderful. There are a decent protion of sounds to use as well. The only reservations I had were that of course the sounds have to be switched out of your own memory as the sounds are listed by number; and the display is only three characters. Other than that it's well worth the price and quality of the Roland name!

Comments about Roland Lucina AX-09 Shoulder Synthesizer:

The Lucina is very easy to use, but yet very rich sounding and full of features. It gets a small amount of time to get used to it and learn how to use it.

Sweet synth, easy, pro quality!

Comments about Roland Lucina AX-09 Shoulder Synthesizer:

Being a piano player for 20+ years, I wanted something that was more portable than my 60lb stage piano. Originally, I hadn't even considered a "should synthesizer" until I happened to see a picture of this great little guy. Touch and Feel: If you're a piano purist, then you shouldn't be here anyway. The keys are not the weighted hammer-action that you demand. However, as far as velocity sensitive keys go, I like Roland's the best; and the Lucina is no exception. They're great for what they're designed to do: fast lead lines, solos, and creating textures using pad sounds and strings. The keybed feels better than I expected and I couldn't be happier. Sounds: It's loaded with awesome sounds, but stripped down to what most of us would use on a regular basis. I think these are Fantom G sounds so what's not to like? In comparison to other virtual instruments, I noticed that the violin in particular was really great. However, I like pretty much every single sound on the thing. My ONE complaint (and no, it's not worth demoting a star) is that the percussion section isn't set up like a normal drum kit on a keyboard. This might be changeable, but I haven't really tried. That said, I've never actually played drums in a live setting from a keyboard unless I was just screwing around. Interface/Ease of use: You have your sound banks and some instructions on assignment, recalling favorites, playing backing tracks, etc. Other than that, there really isn't much to it. Everything seems well organized and natural on the instrument and there's even a "lock" feature for those of us who jam hard and tend to hit buttons by mistake. Love it. Versatility: You can strap it on for looks and feel or play it on a stand. It's got a USB out to control other instruments (sound module, iPad apps, DAW, etc) so everything is up to date. You can play backing tracks from either the USB in or ext headphone in. It's light, portable, pretty, and makes sense for the keyboardist who's sick of hauling around equipment OR being stuck behind a stand. Did I mention it can run on batteries? -brock p.s. Don't let the marketing fool you. You may see many pictures if the Lucina being played by a 10 year old girl and be led to believe that this is a toy. I assure you it is not. This is a pro piece of gear and should be added to your keyboarding arsenal.

Not too shabby!

By Mallory Murray

from Monroe, NC

Comments about Roland Lucina AX-09 Shoulder Synthesizer:

I use this to play in the high school band at church. It is a very high quality instrument with only a few cons. One is that you have to memorize the certain sounds that you use because it does not have a real display. Another is that it does not have a pad similar to that known as "Ballad Layer EP" on other keyboards, but these are only minor downsides. Other than those, I love it! It sure does turn a lot of heads! Because it does not have built in speakers, at home I use a Behringer kt108 15 watt keyboard amp. Very good instument!
