I have had my new Roland JC-120 just over 2 weeks now. I bought it specifically for use with a new Rickenbacker 360-12 that I had bought a month earlier. The Ric has a stereo output splitting the two pick ups and the JC-120 seemed like the perfect 2 channel stereo chorus amp for this feature. (Recommended by Roger McGuinn as the best amp made for a Rickenbacker 12 string on his Byrds site.) I also have a strat, a tele, a les paul studio and a danelctro that all sound amazing through this amp. It has super clean volume, beautifully chiming reverb and chorus, hauntingly beautiful tremelo and a punchy fat distortion. This amp will fill a large hall or rock your living room just as well. I'm told the Roland JC-120 is a studio standard in the recording industry. I've also been running a Boss (Roland) ME-50 effects rig through this amp. On the back there are jacks for effects loop send and return, serial and parallel connections so that you can mix or separate processed and unprocessed sounds. You name it and the JC-120 performs for you. The local Guitar Center where I bought this didn't stock it and had to order it in for me. They had it in 2 days from request. Most of the guys at the shop had never seen the JC-120 before and they all had to try it out the night before I picked it up. Everyone of them expressed their envy and look at all the other in store options they have to play with. It's also just a really good looking amp as well.

Dad had a JC-120 early 80s back in the day that sounded unbelievable. He got rid of it and I wanted one ever since. Finally laid down the scratch for a new one, and had to take it back. The amp was just too noisy, especially with using the FX Loop. And the FX loop in Parallel did not work at all with stomp boxes. Maybe only good with Rack effects, I don't know. I called Roland Corporate to get their take on it, and they said that the stomp boxes should be run in Series on the -20 db setting. This did work, and the guitar tone sounded great, but the Hiss/hum was still there. Single Coil, Humbuckers, Noiseless, even just guitar into amp with no FX had a slight hiss. I was quite disappointed and took it finally just had to take it back. With that said, if you are just running straight into the guitar and use the on board Chorus, and Reverb with a clean tone. This Amp is where it's at!! I kind of like the distortion too because it's subtle and old school. Good for a studio that just needs a good clean amp, but in my opinion, not very versatile, and noisy. Especially for the $$$ . I got an old school Roland Spirit 50 that still rocks hard.

The most versatile rig you'll ever own!!!

By ANDY PERKEY

from knoxville, TN

I have been playing for about 15 years and owned everything from fender to gibson. I've had several tube amps and currently have a marshall dsl40c.(which I love!) but if you're a serious player and need to jam or play some gigs then you need this in your arsenal. I play a Gibson SG standard into a Boss ME 70 and then into the front of this. You can get to any sound imaginable with this amp and that multi effect unit. IT DELIVERS!!!! the chorus is multi orgasmic, the reverb is awesome for your living room to give it that BIG deep tone and the vibrato is great!! You may experience some noise and feedback but just stick a quality noise gate in there and good to go for the bedroom, studio or stage. have fun and play like you mean it boys and girls.

Classic standard and for good reason.

By Austin

from St. Louis Missouri

This is probably one of my favorite amps. I found it in a dumpster in terrible condition. One speaker blown, most of the knobs missing completely and the head falling out of the chassis. Took it to a shop that would repair it for me, and after that it's still rocking for me. This thing has amazing clean tones like you'll NEVER find in a normal solid state amp. The reverb is great and the chorus and vibrato are great tools. The distortion on it isn't much, as it's more of a blues kind of drive, so it doesn't get to heavy, but that's fine, as I have a Fulltone OCD pedal anyway, which handles all my distortion needs. This thing is LOUD too. It gives my 100w tube Marshall half-stack a run for its money. It has high and low inputs which help with that depending on the situation. The newer models have wheels, but this model is much older and looks very different and has no wheels, so just as a warning, this monster is HEAVY. Also, it is very good looking. Looks very vintage and rough without being too flash. I call this thing my zombie amp cause I brought it back from the dead, and it's almost ready to retire again. It has started to cut out for moments. If it turns out that I can't fix it and have to retire it, I'm definitely buying a new one. I truly recommend anyone to play one of these if you get the opportunity.

Amazing

By asdfcrow

from Ballwin

The only amp I'll ever need. It gets PERFECT Clean tones, and with a superb built in chorus and vibratone, while getting screaming leads with an external distortion. The only flaw I can find in it is that it's distortion is just terrible, but any serious guitarist should have their own distortion. Even though it's made for jazz, it's great for just about anything else you might want to play.

Cleanest amp ever!

By Izzy

from Dallas, TX

Without a doubt, the JC-120 is as clean as clean can be. I play jazz, and this amp is the ticket for the warmth one wants to hear when chord comping & solo picking. It's no wonder the JC-120 has been the pro's choice on countless recordings. Chorus feature is awesome, as is the vibrato. Heavy as all get out, but the casters help. Distortion feature OK, but I never use it. If you're serious about owning an amp that will produce a true, clean sound, regardless of the axe you're using, the JC-120 is the ONE!

JC 120

By Roland Junkie

from shout bma lama

I can't believe all the bad stuff are saying about this amp. It does have a little hum, but that is an easy fix. Put a Boss RT-20 on it and welcome to leslie land!! I have never owned a Roland product that has disappointed me. This amp is L_O_U_D! Not for playing in your rocking chair.

Long Lasting

By TheTenacious

from OC, CA

PROs: I use this amp during my weekly practices at church, for about a year now. The guy who owns it has had it for ten years, and it is in excellent condition!! It can be very soft, but if you turn it up it plays over the house amps. It sounds good with all the guitars I've used with it (Strats, LP's, Teles, ect.) CONs: The distortion tone is weak, and the reverb is'nt so hot either. But hey!, should'nt you have a pedal board?

Cheaply made and noisy

By disappointed1

from Burrillville , RI

I purchased this brand new-sounded beautiful in the store, but that was a noisy environment. I took home and there is white noise galore (oddly enough more so when effects are off) even when the volume is only at one with or without anything plugged in. Great clean sound if you can get rid of the white noise. I am in the process of taking it to a service center, the guy there tells me over the phone that these amps are notorious for being noisy????!!! At this price??? My 250 dollar behringer is more versatile, dead quiet and models amps very well. Lot of corners cut in construction. Plastic nuts on all inputs(one of them is stripped)Plastic corners. However the design encompasses metal rivets, which i can best call cosmetic, all around the front and back. Use the metal where needed please. Chorus is excellent, but again, what good is it if amp is noisy as heck?
