Overview

Roland's V-Drums are the most popular electronic drums in the world, but not everyone has the room or budget for a full V-Drums kit. Introducing the Roland HD-1. It's forged from the same technology as its predecessors, but it's much simpler to use. It's also incredibly quiet, thanks to the newly designed kick beater, cushioned tom pads, and snare head. The HD-1 electronic drum set is also conveniently compact and stylish--perfect for every home, school, studio, etc.--and it's priced for the masses. Most of the Roland HD-1's components are mounted on one stand for easy setup and transport, and for a clean look. Just take it out of the box and play.

Small Price, Big Performance

It might look small, but the HD-1 V-drums sound and perform impressively large. With Roland's legendary V-Drum know-how at the core, this little drum kit is a dream for first-timer or casual players as well as for parents, since the volume level can be completely controlled via volume knob and/or headphones.

Play-Along Fun

The HD-1 is equipped with an external input for connecting CD-players, iPods, and the like. Jam along with your favorite songs, and control the blend of music and your live drumming through headphones or an amplifier. The Roland PM-01 Personal Monitor (449782 - see customer products box) is an perfect monitoring system for hearing your HD-1 drums in full fidelity.

Borderless Expression

The HD-1 electronic drum set is a great way to enhance musical expression and enjoyment in your home. Used along with other popular instruments such as Roland's digital pianos, the HD-1 will serve as the nucleus for family fun and musical enrichment.

I own this kit. I'm a girl, and so I needed something I could carry by myself to gigs. This seemed to be the obvious choice. It's pretty good overall. The whole "just take it out of the box and play" is untrue. More like, drag the huge box up the stairs, put in all the screws, attach the pedals, attach the monitor, etc. but it's still way easier than any other kit. If you're over 5'7 you won't like it! I haven't taken it to a gig yet, but It will be a lot easier than making 7 trips to the car carrying 3 huge toms and 1 enormous kick drum. You dont have to worry about re-tuning, no broken snare strings, and no cracked cymbals. The ride could be a little louder on setting 1. I love the double kick. I'd give it an 8.5/10.

Though the idea of a compact/quiet drumset is very interesting, this set has some kinks to be worked out before it is ready to be sold. The way the kit is set up seems to be unreal to the way a real kit would be played (that might be able to be changed). Most importantly the kick pedal is terrible. The action is weak and it doesn't pick up double strokes. The idea of course is to make it quiet by not using a real pedal/beater, but if you were looking for some real practice time, stay away until it is ready

Really Tiny

By Kyle

from madison, wi

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

Played this extensively in stores and at a friends house who owns one. I'm 5'9 average build. This thing is TINY. I couldn't set it up to fit me at all. The way this was built is meant for 12 year olds at max. The sounds were ok, but not all that great. I was also playing on the Roland TD-4, that is a 100% upgrade. And only 2 hundred bucks more. If your looking for a set to record with and get decent sounds out of, don't waste your time on this

I love it!

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

I have one, and I think it's great! First of all, It's always in tune. Also, It's like having three kits in one, and the BEST thing is that it takes about five minutes to set up. I used to take the longest to set up & break down, now I'm done in minutes. It's so easy! I also love the fact that you hit them hard and not be TOO LOUD. I do like to use a real crash cymbal or two. I also like the response of the pedals, I got used to them right away. I Love it!

I love it. But you get what you pay for.

By UCDWino

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

I picked up this set at guitar center two weeks ago. It has been a real blast learning drumming on it. What is also great is the small footprint because it fits into a little corner of my small apartment, and the clever cable routing gives my toddler less to grab at. The only limitations are that because the bass pedal doesnt have a beater and cant rebound off a drum head, its close to impossible to double tap it quickly. Also, the sensitivity of the heads are not independantly adjustable - I find myself wishing I could turn down the toms and turn up the snare - but I cant. I also find myself missing a second crash cymbal. All of that said, this is a low-priced entry level set and it's worth EVERY PENNY you pay for it. I am going to play this thing until the things i listed above start to put a drain on my ability to continue to learn this instrument, and then I'm going to upgrade to another V-drum product. - but that day is a long way off. The HD-1 is extremely capable, simple, and fun to play.

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

but then i played it. its a little tricky to get use to the pedals and the way they are set up..once you get it though..this thing is actually pretty freakin sweet. it sounds great, the response is great..the only set back..is it only has a few different kit sounds. but, they all sound pretty sweet. has a metranome which is always sweet. In any case..i give this 5 stars..its a cool little kit..just get used to it..and you are golden

It Does What It Was Meant To Do

By Kaduku

from SF Bay Area

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

This kit is not for everyone. It is advertised as a entry level drum set for practice or for beginners, or if space is a factor. I bought this for my 13 year old son who plays guitar, but wanted to get into drumming. It sounds great, especially with the Roland PM-10 monitor. You can always go to the higher models if this does not suit you for some reason, whether you are too tall or if you just feel like this thing is too much like a toy. I think it is well made. My son and I are really happy with it, because we needed something that sounds good, small footprint, and quiet (when we want to). Like my title says "It does what it was meant to do", and it does it quite well. I gave it a 5 star becuase it is perfect for us.

Absolutely Worth The Money

By Hooper

from New York City

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

The setup was very straightforward (I would say incredibly easy compared to what a larger kit would be to assemble). The snare response is very high and feels very good. The toms are good too. The cymbal sensitivity from the outter rim towards the center varies the output just like a real cymbal -- very cool. Everything is adjustable (except the pedals) so it's not a problem for a 6' person. Very sturdy throughout. And very compact and good looking. Most importantly to me: super super quiet... (I couldn't stop playing even at 3am and the sensitivity is so good that by hitting it very lightly with the volume up on my headphones I had a great time!)

good idea...but

By jncope

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

I played this one just the other day. I've tried out all of Roland's V-drums. I also had experience with them through a church I've played for. This new one does everything it says it will do. The v-drum technology is present, but limited. great practice kit. Convincing feel. But if this will be your very first set (perhaps for a son or daughter)...I say pass. You will out grow it fast and if you want to get serious about playing drums you will likely want a traditional drum set anyway. This this would be great for doing recording on your PC, assuming it will let you.

Comments about Roland HD-1 V-Drums Lite Electronic Drum Kit:

This set is pretty unique. What I like about it is that it's skinny. It's a five set. and that it is cool. Well I don't have it but it would be awesome to have. Very very portable. Also, lightweight. (if you can't tell)
