Overview

With its compact size and battery-powered operation, Roland's CUBE Street was a huge hit among traveling musicians. Now, the new CUBE Street EX infuses the popular mobile amp with a huge performance upgrade that delivers more projection, more channels and more versatility. It offers 50W of power and a stereo speaker system with dual 8" woofers, and 2" tweeters provide clean, punchy sound for larger crowds, while four independent channels offer abundant connections for a variety of mics and instruments. Detailed sound adjustment is available with separate EQ and reverb controls, and great guitar tones are dialed in easily with the onboard COSM amps. Selectable power modes provide up to 20 hours of operation with eight AA batteries, and two CUBE Street EX units can be linked together for more sound coverage if needed. And with i-CUBE LINK, you can even plug in your iPhone or iPad to play backing music and record your performances.

COSM Models

Forget the title of this review. This is a first-class amplifier. Whether using battery or AC power this amp has a great sound. I am a classical guitarist who use an amp when performing chamber music. I require no feedback and a sound that is as close to an unamplified classical guitar as possible. This amp delivers. I think it has better sound than the Fishman amp at a substantially lower price.

I purchased the Cube Street EX because of the number of channels, features(including AC or battery powered), and the 50 watt power output, to replace a two channel Crate 30 watt acoustic amp. Loved that it was lightweight, had separate channel controls, and would run on AA batteries if needed. Extremely disappointed with the sound quality, feedback issues, and the output volume. At a small venue that the 30 watt Crate always handled with ease, the Cube Street EX performed so poorly that I had to revert back to the Crate CA30 I brought for backup. A 50 watt(at high power on AC power) amp should easily be able to handle what a 30 watt amp could. Feedback was horrible, and it was difficult to EQ out the boxy sound it created on mic and instrument channels. Spent 2-3 hours at home trying to make the amp work out, as I really wanted to keep it. Side-by-side with the Crate CA30, the Crate put out more, and better quality, sound at 5 than the EX put out at 8.5 with the same instrument. I am a fan of Roland amps, and was greatly disappointed. I hope that mine was just defective, and not a good example of the product. I expected much better from Roland, especially after reading so many positive reviews. Purchased from GuitarCenter.com, it was backordered, but shipped quickly as soon as they got it in. No-hassle return at my local Guitar Center. That is the reason I purchased from them. I have always received good service and excellent treatment from GC, and do recommend them to friends. None in stock to do an exchange or comparison in-store, so the amp was returned for a refund.

Love it!

Comments about Roland Cube Street EX Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Amplifier:

I love this little amp. I use it for rock, blues and jazz. Plenty of power, good tones and it's light as a feather. I have a Cube 80X and like this one better. Played my Epi Dot through it last night at a jam playing some jazz. Killed it ! When I play my Tele through it, it really sounds the way a Tele is supposed to sound. Haven't plugged a mic into it yet, but that's coming tomorrow. I'm impressed.

Comments about Roland Cube Street EX Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Amplifier:

Most reviews describe the sound of this unit as "thin" which is true but to be expected for the wattage. The 1/8" music player input is the worst for bass response. However if you use adapters to 1/4" plugs and use the "keyboard" input you will get much better bass response, and better still if you can use one of the "eq 'do" inputs. You can also eq your music player if possible to improve bass response. I was initially disappointed but I needed the battery power for street ministry, and my ""fix" will allow me to keep it. Overpriced a little, but it is a Roland. As far as I am concerned the portable music market is still wide open.

Comments about Roland Cube Street EX Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Amplifier:

i went to a holiday function at a friends house to play with him and his girl's family. since my friend is primarily an acoustic only kind of guy i was reluctant to participate since i am an electric player and acoustic only feels like having one arm tied behind my back. he told me he had this Roland street ex and it could handle anything i had. to my surprise i had a ball, this amp was able to handle my acoustic/electric my electric set up including a stereo fx processor pedal and my ipod with my backing tracks as well as a vocal mike all at the same time. we played in a small living room and the sound was incredible. i was finally able to play my entire spectrum of songs with no problems even at low volumes and with plenty of power to spare. im getting one of these as soon as i can. i used a double neck with my friend playing acoustic his girl singing and drums base and keyboard on the ipod all at the same time.

Comments about Roland Cube Street EX Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Amplifier:

I've been playing the streets and small acoustic venues for a number of years and been unable to use my electric bass. This unit provides a realistic sound at appropriate levels for accompanying acoustic instruments, yet still has plenty of power to stand out. I appreciate that the control layout matches my Cube 60 so there's little learning curve. It's compact size, low weight and battery-powered operation are perfect for playing down on the corner. The built-in tuner and drum machine are a definite plus.

Comments about Roland Cube Street EX Battery Powered Stereo Guitar Amplifier:

I use a looper for both pre-recorded tracks and live looping. I run both my electric harmonica and the tracks through the Cube Ex, and it handles the load quite well. I was using the older model Street Cube, and it tended to distort and had very little bottom.
This Cube Ex has a nice, clean bottom, more punch and a much clearer sound than the last incarnation. Quite serviceable in a small room.
