The Roland CY- 8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger is a light weight durable high impact plastic I like the fact that it comes with the special mount that fits over the regular cymbal mount to give the CY-8 a natural swing feel.I love the fact the trigger responds very well even for a heavy hitter like myself ! All and all the CY-8 is a great product. I'm going to pick up 4 more for my V-kit, I can't wait !

I got this new CY-8 to replace an old, used one I have that doesn't trigger very well anymore. Well, I was expecting a lot better performance from a Roland product. This CY-8's triggers definitely work better than my old one, but the overall output is weak. That is, no matter how hard I strike it, it's about half as loud as my CY-12 pads (with the pads' volumes all being equal). I'm going to have to adjust my whole kit down to match this cheap pad's output. You get what you pay for though...

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

Solid little cymbal pad that works well (via TRS cable) with my Roland TD-7 drum set. It responds well. Nice rubber-coated strike-area that's reasonably quiet regarding the material when stick makes contact ("edge" & "bow" areas). "Bow" area is firm enough to perform a nice rapid bounce with the sticks. Choke feature works well. Though I haven't had it for very long, I've played it enough to know that I'm enjoying using it. Great pad for the price.

      Great E-Cymbal

      By Eric Giorgiantonio

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

I bought 2 of the Roland CY-8 cymbals for my custom TD9 set, When setup properly this cymbal sounds really good, the choke works well and overall all hits are triggered. I have been playing them for about a month now and really can't find fault with them. The only thing I found to be a bit bothersome is the fact that my CY-6 cymbal seems to have thicker rubber so hits feel a bit better with wood tip sticks, the CY-8 transmits more vibration down the stick which if you play hard will make fingers tingle after a while. Great Look, works well, triggers every time and I like the swing lock feature adds a more realistic feel. The only down side for me is this is a bit pricey for a dual zone chokeable cymbal pad.

      Great Cymbal!!!

      By John Oliveto

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

Fantastic product! I purchased this to expand my Roland TD-4S and it's an excellent cymbal. Very responsive, feels like a real cymbal, waves like a real cymbal. It also looks great, of course. Very accurate triggering with separate edge/bow sounds as well as the option for a velocity sensitive bell (which works perfectly with shoulder strikes). The cymbal looks great as an addition, it adds a lot to the authenticity of my kit. The cymbals do flow realistically from strikes just as acoustic cymbals would, which is fantastic. The only issue with this cymbal is longevity. As I stated before I play on a Roland TD-4S (which I've had for over 2 years now) and the two older CY-8s still work, but have suffered a loss of sensitivity. Very light strikes in certain areas do not register at all, which isn't really a big deal as I now use the other two as crash cymbals. I've contacted Roland with regard to the issue and it seems that no internal settings of the drum brain can be adjusted (beyond what I have already done) to resolve the issue. Like I said not a huge issue, rarely do I need to play soft enough for it to be a problem, but definitely worth mentioning.

      OK for non-Roland Applications

      By Steve K

      from Redondo Beach, CA

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

I bought this to upgrade from the single zone Simmons cymbal so I could get more playing versatility. I no longer use the Simmons brain, but instead use an Alesis Trigger iO running directly into my PC to trigger BFD (which sounds phenomenal, BTW). The primary piezo zone (shoulder) worked just as well as any other e-cymbal. Second zone (edge) turns out to work as an on/off switch. I was hoping for a second dynamic piezo sensor. This limited me to using it as either a crash choke or a single velocity edge (crash) on my ride. Overall, pretty good but don't expecte a lot from that second zone in non-Roland applications.

      IMPROVE it or RETIRE it

      By Joe Connolly

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

I play a TD3 SW and have had a great experience until I began to notice that my cymbal was not triggering correctly and then the screws would come loose. I later discovered that I literally shattered the cymbal where the screw holes where on one CY-8 and the other CY-8 I have is starting to do the same thing. The CY-8 is the ONLY Roland Cymbal with only FOUR screws securing the middle. The little CY-5 has SIX! The structural integrety of the CY-8 Cymbal needs to be improved.

      Good, but not great

      By DaveH003

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

Roland makes the best e-cymbals on the market - hands down. However, this one is not up to the standards and quality of its more expensive brethren. I bought two of these instead of spending the money to buy another CY-12R/C and CY-14C (I have had both of the afore mentioned cymbals for a few years, and they are amazing). After a couple of years, my CY-8's started having problems - mis-triggering, zones not firing correctly, choking not working, etc. If it had been on just one of the cymbals, I would have figured it was just a bad cymbal, but when it happened to both, there was no doubt that these just weren't as good as my CY-12/14/15's. If you are looking for something that you will eventually swap out, then these might be for you. Otherwise, I would spend the extra money and get the CY-12 R/C at a minimum.

      Very good add on cymbal

      By Dr. Drum

      from St. Louis, MO

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

I purchased the TD 20 top o the line set and I am adding cymbals since I have four additional trigger inputs available. These make great splash and china cymbals and they are a great bargain, since they cost about as much as a real 8 or 10" splash cymbal. These cymbals are very accurate and look great. They are sensitive enough for light playing but durable enough for heavy smashing. I simply am blown away by Roland and how real this set sounds recorded...I can't tell the difference between these and an acoustic set, amazing. I rate this small add on cymbal as top notch and anyone who gives these a negative review just doesn't get it.

      Definatly worth the money!

      By Chuck

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

I h ave experimented with alot of different types of E-Cymbals trying to find one that would take the beating of a heavy handed drummer and Roland BY FAR outshines anything else that I have played. BY THE WAY...... Roland TD-3 players..... Roland will tell you that you have to atleast have a TD-10 or higher to get the use of a 3 zone cymbal and of course, for a 3 zone trigger the price goes way up, not to mention the price of purchasing a TD-10! Set the velocity of the ride cymbal to trigger the bell sound on a hard hit and viola! you just faked a 3 zone ride cymbal. Hard hit for bell, regular hit for bow-ride and rim hit for crashing the ride! Im looking for more cy-8s now and probably looking for a new home after buying more drum equipment!!!! GREAT PRODUCT

      Best In its Price Range

      By Kruegmeister

      from Shelby Twp, MI

      Comments about Roland CY-8 V-Cymbal Dual-Trigger Crash:

For my Ride I bought a Roland CY-12R which is better than these, but not much. The CY-12r has 3 triggers so you can play the Bell which is more like a ride, but that cymbal is about double the price of these. These Cymbals are excellent for Crash Cymbals. Dual Zones work Great. I set my Bow for Pinging Ride type sounds and the Edges for Crash Sounds. They have Never False Triggered between Bow and Edge for me. The Choke works pretty good. Assuming your Brain Module supports that. It took some practice to get the choke down but it is quite repeatable. For the Price I don't think you can beat these cymbals.
