COSM analyzes the many factors that make up the original sound, such as the electrical and physical characteristics of the original, and then produces a digital model that can reproduce the same sound. In designing the CUBE-XL series, Roland meticulously analyzed and modeled array of world-class amps and effects to bring you the versatile and authentic tone palette that these amps provide.

I just loved the Cube 40 XL. I have been carrying heavy amplifiers before, always thinking the size has all to do with the sound. Wrong! This little one has a great clean Jazz Chorus sound, totally compatible with my Pedal POD effects, and also the lead channel is great. All the amp emulators are great, the acoustic channel, the tweed, the distorsions. All sound very realistic, and also the delay, looper, reverbs and other effects. Very fine piece of amplifier. Totally recommended. I play the jazz guitar in the Guadalajara, Mexico area, and it's been really great for rehearsals and also live presentations. Last Saturday I played in a 300 people event room, and the cube was filling it entirely with its sound, no need for a PA. It's a great investment, and the size and weight really pays it off.
This is a great amp, loud, versatile and tiny, it can be everything you need in a single box. Its size makes it easy to carry around and to use it in a cramped studio, but don't let you be fooled by the tiny size, the sound is bigger than it appears; the dense, closed case and its single speaker make it quite loud, I dpn't need to go up to eleven, even playing with a drummer and bassist, in fact I seldom go above 20% in the volume knob for a loud sound. This amp is not only loud, but has a great array of sounds, from the rich 'JC Clean' sound, emulating the Jazz Chorus, without the hiss, and great amp models, including, Fender-Like and Mesa-Like models, that give a broad spectrum of crunchy to heavily distorted sounds. The Built-in modulation effects (chorus, tremolo) sound nice, but they lack some control. The Looper function is just amazing, I have incorporated it in my own playing and new compositions, but in order to use it well, you WILL need a pedal. If you don't have the Roland pedal, a single sustain pedal will do the trick. Almost every feature (effects, amps) is foot-switchable, which, in certain cases, can free you of carrying around stomp boxes. In conclusion, this is a great amp, and it's more than it seems.
seriously i'm not the best,i've been taking lessons for 6 months and i was looking for some tones with boss eband and some other devices but i did not find anything i liked. This Roland on the other hand is very satisfying and i'm not regreting my choice. Plenty enough power for the practice and very versatile. Go for it!!!
This amp sounds amazing. 80 second looper? Are you kidding me? Those alone cost over $100 bucks. The clean tone even makes my Ibanez sound very sweet. I think the Brit Combo (AC30) model sounds incredible, and you can dial in all sorts effects and tones for each model. I was listening to some YouTube clips of high end, high gain amps, and this one does a good job of sounding very similar. Not exact of course, but similar, to let you feel as though you're playing through a Fryette Pittbull. Very satisfied overall.
I've always loved the sound of Roland and this amp does not disappoint. It even makes a mediocre player like me sound good! Cons: plug NOT grounded! (This causes huge noises when used with a power inverter. Remedy: Run a ground wire from the amp to the ground. Pros: Great sound (when grounded) Aux input for an Ipod or your smartphone. (I youtube instructional vids) I'm very glad I bought this amp and already recommended it to my friends.
I have played guitar for about 20 years and have lots of different equipment. Recently, I bought the Boss E-Band unit and was really impressed by the onboard effects. I wanted a practice amp with that kind of versatility, but that didn't sound like a wimpy practice amp. When I went to my local GC I tried this amp along with the Mustang III and the Vox VT 50. This amp blew them away! First off, the amp models on this unit are all usable. The clean tone is amazing (as to be expected with Roland products). You can get tons of sparkle and crunchy blues between the Black Panel, Brit Combo and Tweed. When you get into the higher gain "Stack" settings, this amp continues to shine. The rectifier is my favorite model. You can dial in a great heavy metal sound with this amp. Although it has a 10" speaker, it has a closed back so you get lots of bass response. It could be mic'ed but is not quite loud enough to keep up with a full band, but is perfect for someone jamming with a friend, or playing in the basement. Another thing that this amp has that NO OTHER does is the looper. I would recommend buying the roland FS6 footswitch with this amp. Loop pedals can run 200.00 and up. This amp has it built in! ( This makes it the perfect amp for a guitar instructor as well.) At that price point, this can not be beat... PERIOD.
I bought the roland 40xl cube amp and its a awesome little practice amp I mainly play metal style guitar but I also play a little of everything. This amp does it all Im blown away of the sound that comes out of this little solid state amp. The distortion is great and Im a serious player ive played in a few different bands and have been playing guitar for over twenty years. This amp has great features it has built in effects and everything from acoustic to blazing rectifier distortion. It has a power squeez button to get all that gain at low volumes and you can squeal harmonics at a very low volume with the power squezz button on. It also has a eighty second looper on it and it sounds great. This little practice amp is well worth two hundred dollars and I dont think anyone would be dissapointed with this amp im certainly not. I would deffanetly have to say its the best solid state practice amp you can buy.
