  • This is a lot of fun

As reviewed by Mark Berger on 3/1/2013

I have not explored all of the features but I am having fun with this unit. It sounds great and is the perfect tool for me. I don't like instructions (I still have not opened the book) so I am happy to report that I was playing within 5 minutes of opening the box. This unit has re-energized my desire to play and learn. Good job Roland (Guitar Center was really good to work with too)!

  • Roland Boss e-Band JS-10

As reviewed by Bill Womack on 2/1/2013

This thing is about the best learning tool for guitar I can imagine! It has a lot of really good sounds in it already preloaded, and the amps and affects allow you to come up with about anything you want to make your own. The backing tracks are great and there are plenty of them. You can load your own mp3 tracks, rip songs from CDs or use you own wav files to make all you want to play too! Recording is easier than I have seen on anything yet, and what you hear is what you get. The sound that comes from the speakers is good quality and plenty loud enough for a room, but not so loud to wake the neighbors or even the person in the nest room. I spent a lot of money on trying to learn to use DAW programs for recording my playing and still found I had a lot of troubles getting recordings good enough to post on the internet or send to someone to listen to. They never came out like I wanted, but with the Js-10 it is easy even for me. It only took me a few hours and I was making my recordings and send them off. And, it is like having a band to play with that knows every song I want to learn. All this and I haven't even used all the features. Before I bought it, I was afraid it was going to too high a price for what I would get, but after using I way more than satisfied. If I would have had this to buy a year ago I would have been recording and playing all this time instead of trying to learn how. I could have saved myself a lot of time and money, not to mention the frustration of learning all that stuff. Great machine.

  • Disappointing for a Bass Player

As reviewed by Nick Wallmark on 5/29/2013

As a bass player I find the JS-10 to be disappointing. I own a JS-5 and was looking forward to upgrading. The upright design and built-in speakers are nice and the sound tracks are a great upgrade. It is a good device for guitar players, but it lacks some key features of the 5. Namely you do not have to ability to selectively remove instrument parts for each track. I can't take out the bass, so it does very little for me. I can practice solos, but it does very little when practicing exercises and rhythms. In short this is a karaoke machine for guitar soloing. Not much else. Hopefully Roland will release some bass-friendly versions of the built-in loops.
