Product Information

Friendly and fun with great analog-style sound and synthesis control.

Perfect for musicians new to synthesizers or pros looking for authentic analog sounds, the Roland SH-201 Synth features Roland's famous Supersaw waveform, resonant filter, saturation control, and more.

Great Analog-Style Sound

Even though it's super fun and easy to use, the Roland SH-201 is no toy when it comes to sound. With two beefy analog-modeling oscillators onboard, complete with Roland's Supersaw waveform and resonant filter, this little synth can blow down doors. It also comes with high-quality delay and reverb effects for adding depth and dimension to the sound, an overdrive control for adding a ripsaw edge, and an arpeggiator for instant rhythmic motion.

Ultra-Easy Operation

This is synthesis at its friendliest. The Roland SH-201's front panel puts every control directly under the player's fingertips in a logically positioned signal path from left to right. No hidden menus, no nonsense. Just play and move the knobs and sliders. It's as simple as that. Students of synthesis will love the ease and immediate gratification of this Roland synthesizer. No other modern synth on the market is as fun, friendly, and inviting.

External Audio Input

Playing the SH-201 from its keyboard is only half the fun. External audio sources can be plugged into the SH-201's external input (CD/MP3 player, sampler, etc.) and the sound can be twisted with the front-panel knobs and sliders. Wave your hands over the SH-201's invisible D-beam for dramatic modulation.

USB Connectivity

The Roland synth can be connected to a computer (Mac or PC) with one simple USB cable. Both MIDI and audio can be routed through the USB port. A VSTi software editor is included, which allows SH-201 sounds to be manipulated from within a VSTi-compatible host software sequencer.

With our Guaranteed Lowest Price, you can be assured of complete satisfaction and the lowest available price, or your money back!

The best little synth

It's hard to think of bad things to say about the Roland SH-201. The only thing that I can come up with is that the construction and the keyboard are a bit cheesy, but what do you expect at this price point. As analog modeling synths go, this one is pretty good. Of course you can't get completely authentic analog sounds from a digital synth -- you shouldn't expect to! -- but you can certainly get great sounds that sound analog to anyone hearing it out of a speaker. The beauty of this synth is its simplicity. The control layout is strangely reminiscent of the 80s vintage Roland Jupiter 6. The controls are set up in such a way that everything from creating new patches from waveforms to applying filters and oscillators is very simple. No, this board does not have a display. It doesn't need one; neither did the SH-101 or the Jupiter series. You get a really strong hands-on feeling from the SH-201. You can alter patches in real-time and save up to 32 user patches. The pre-sets are even pretty good -- certainly useable. What's more, the USB connectivity is very useful -- unheard of at this price range -- for programming arpeggios and importing new patches. The software interface is a bit confusing, but it's manageable. This is my favorite synth. I also own a Roland Fantom X6, which I use more because it has more features -- and it has some good organ sounds -- but as a SYNTH, I far prefer playing the SH-201. Great bang for the buck; great sounds. Much fun.

HUGH SOUND SMALL PACKAGE

So Im strolling through Guitar Center like I do once a week to see whats new. I just happened to hit a key on the SH-201 and one of the sexiest beats I've ever heard starts playing. I sat down and didn't get up for about an hour and a half. Now if I haden't just payed for my son new electronic drum kit, I would have walked out the door with it. I've used alot of synths during live shows, but the versitility, sound, and layout of the SH-201 makes me feel I need to own this. Next week I have two car payments due, but the week following next, I will walk out of Guitar Center with it under my arm. Then I have to sneak it past the wife and pay off the kids to not tell their mom "Dads bought a new toy. And until then I'll just have to visit it a couple times a week. Its just way to much fun to play with.

Great synth for beginners...

I needed a new synth for my band and this was the ticket. Its really easy to make new sounds and tweak stuff without being totally confused. The only problem i have with this device is the split voice, you can't change on the keys where you want the split to take place. But other then that this synth is near perfect. TOTALY WORTH THE $600

THE SAW...

Easy to use. Did I say easy to use? I meant easy to use! The SH-201 is a perfect choice for a keyboard. It acts more like a "scratchboard" when it comes to constructing patches. Lots of sounds are available. The simple panel design makes it easy to learn. Did I say easy to learn? I meant easy to learn!

yeah it's cool

this is a pretty good synth. i'm going to recommend this for you kids who are new to synthesizers and want some regular sized keys, and even for some of you other people who just want a decent synth for a decent price. its good quality, i haven't run into any problems at all and it gets the job done. its got a d-beam which is ridiculous, and the regular sized keys are a huge plus. basically, i really like it. maybe you will maybe you won't. i definitely recommend going to guitar center or wherever you go for your junk and trying this thing out, cause it's pretty great. then you can buy it cause you're not going to regret it
