The compact Roland R-05 WAV/MP3 Recorder is easy to use, affordable, and packed with big-ticket features that raise the bar in its price class. Experience crystal-clear 24-bit/96kHz capture, enhanced recording and editing features, and extended battery life (over 16 hours per charge). On stage, in rehearsal, at school, on the street, in the boardroom—whenever inspiration strikes, the Roland R-05 captures the moment with convenience and quality.
24/96 Recording The Roland R-05 provides pristine, uncompressed stereo recording directly to an SD card (2GB included) — up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution. Whether recording directly with the built-in stereo mic or capturing sounds from an externally connected microphone or stereo line input, you'll be impressed with the R-05's detail and clarity. And for worry-free recording, the convenient Rehearsal mode ensures that you won't overload the input.
Onboard Editing Even though the Roland R-05 recorder integrates fluidly with computers via USB 2.0, this new-generation recorder doesn't require a PC for editing. For speed and convenience, you can trim, divide, and combine within the R-05. And for those who'd like to apply a high-gloss finish to their recordings, the R-05 is equipped with built-in reverb.
Rehearsal Mode In a rehearsal studio, you can make clear recordings of your band, even at high volume levels. The R-05 can automatically set the optimum recording level, and can split the songs for you automatically. It's also possible to simultaneously record a high-quality WAV file for CD production and an MP3 file for file sharing.
Music-Practice Partner The Roland R-05 helps you practice your musical instrument or your vocals. You can repeatedly loop a specified region of audio, or change the playback speed without changing the pitch. You can play back a difficult phrase slowly or play back at high speed to grasp the overall structure of a song in a short time.
For Non-Musicians Too Musicians will naturally gravitate to the Roland R-05, but this portable recorder is great for many non-musical applications as well. You can record lectures, speeches, and meetings, for example. The Roland R-05 recorder's high-sensitivity, built-in microphone will clearly capture all of the voices in a room. The included windscreen and tripod mount enhance optimal placement and cleaner recordings as well.
Protection On The Go When you take your R-05 out in the field to record, protect it with the optional OP-R05C cover/windscreen (#485810) or the optional OP-R05S silicon rubber cover—all allow access to controls and display for protected use.

I'm no recording artist, and that's really what the problem is. But the solution is the Roland R-05. It is very easy to operate, and the recording playback quality is superb.
I had it in RECORD mode within 5 minutes of opening the box, playing guitar over an internet Backing Track from my standard room stereo. The MIX and the PLAYBACK fidelity of my TEST was perfect, but the overall volume was just a little low.
After making the proper INPUT LEVEL adjustments (which were very easy to do)the PLAYBACK level was then perfect. I haven't downloaded that TEST file to my computer yet, but I suspect that will be easy too.
I also used it to RECORD our last band session, in parallel with that of our sound engineer on his Apple computer. It obviously does not have the mixing ability of the computer, but from a "Room" perspective, the stereo mix is right there, and it sounds great.
I got this thing for all purposes. I wanted to be able to capture field recordings ranging all the way from thunderstorms to traffic sounds and band rehearsals. I'm also a professional musician though and was hoping this thing would let me record professional sounding tracks on the go. WOW...it does that and more. Im actually at the point now where Im doing my whole next record JUST with this thing. (granted I did max out the quality to 24bit/96sampling rate) If you know how to work one microphone to your advantage you can record anything with this and it sounds incredible especially after a little editing and processing in pro tool. It has a line in to for synths or any direct instrument so it can act as a recording interface. Transporting over to computer is so easy to...just plug in the usb and drag drop. DONE. Comes with a 2GB SD card which is nice but power supply is sold seperately. Batteries do last a very long time though. GET THIS THING...
I use Ro5 for live recordings of rehersals and performances at church. It is easy to use and delivers surpring results. Recnetly I just turned it on in front of our worship band (set about 10 feet in front of the group) and it did a great job of capturing the performance. I also use it to record demo songs for the band. Its not a fancy multi track recorder but what it does it does well.
