      Roland FP-7 Digital Piano (700942)
Availability:

A digital piano built for the stage—like the stage at Carnegie Hall.

Equipped with great sounds and intelligent features, the FP-7 excels at delivering concert piano sounds with the intricate details of an acoustic piano. You get touches like hammer and damper noise and string and key-off resonance, all delivered with a powerful 88-key multi-sampled piano sound engine. These authentic piano sounds are matched by the play of the Progressive Hammer Action II keyboard.

You also get the key tones needed for ensemble or band performances thanks to 339 other tones—including 6 tone wheel organ voices— and 9 drum sets all with 128-voice polyphony. The FP-7 comes with reverb, 62 digital effects types, 4-band EQ, a graphic LCD for easy operation, and rich, sparkling sound from internal speakers. Advanced features like USB/MIDI computer connection, computer recording with Cakewalk SONAR LE (included), and an Audio Key mode that lets you play WAV files from a USB key.

  • Must-Have Keyboard

As reviewed by Warsawfalcon on 6/11/2007

It was between this and the Yamaha CP33. The superb grand sounds & keyboard action makes Roland the hands-down winner. On-board speakers are amazingly good; add a decent amp and you've got a stand-out keyboard for one-man gigs. Fully adjustable tonewheel drawbars sound like the real thing; alto sax voice is spectacular. Best vibes on any keyboard I've tried. This pup's definitely gonna earn its keep!

  • great tones menu can be a bit frustrating

As reviewed by chris on 12/20/2010

This is a great piano. bought it as upgrade from my casio px-200. Huge difference and will difference and i will never go back! The action is great. some people say it's too heavy but i find it fine and I play acoustic piano on a regular basis as well. great organ sounds as well as a great fender rhodes tone (works especially well when touch setting is set to "super light" this thing is heavy 50 lbs or so but is solid for sure. only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the menu is hard to remember as each key performs several different functions. once you get the basics though you're fine. if you want to go deeper though you will have to pay attention. also the mid-range sounds a bit strange (I've heard this is common on most rolands) but i would buy it again if stolen. the full-screen i s a huge improvement over the LED screen on the FP-4

  • Excellent piano

As reviewed by hotpianoman on 7/17/2007

I shopped several pianos before buying this one: Alesis, Yamaha, and Roland primarily. I needed one that would be a great piano and also have B-3 organ sounds. The key action on this piano blows all the others away. I own a Yamaha console digital piano -- the organ sounds there are modest, with poor leslie imitation. This is the best "piano" keyboard that has digital drawbars and a reasonable sounding leslie. As other reviewers have said, the built-in speakers are a little "muddy" sounding. Headphone sounds are great. If you are powering this through an amp, you'll need a pretty good sized amp to reproduce the full dynamic range: my 50 watt Marshall isn't enough. The non-piano features are very impressive and easy to control. What would I change? I would add a couple single violin voices (it has only groups of strings). I would also put the leslie switch where the left hand can reach it (like on a real Hammond) or make it switchable with a footswitch like the Korg and Roland tonewheel emulators. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this piano, and I believe it's the best available for my needs of primarily stage piano, with a moderate amount of organ and occasional other instruments.
