  • Plays Well, Bell trigger Needs hard hit.

    As reviewed by on 6/29/2007

This Cymbal Plays very well in my opinion. I use it as a ride. My one problem is the Bell Trigger requires that you hit with the Fat part of the Stick. Granted 3 triggers that don't interact is a tough bill. Simply you must hit the Bell with the Fat Part of the Stick and it will Trigger consistently. My Brain (the TD-6v) only supports 2 of the Triggers so I use the Bow/Bell instead of the Bow/Edge outputs since I use this as my Ride Cymbal. For Crashes I use the CY-8 cymbals, I cannot see spending double to use one of these as a crash over the CY-8, but for a Ride Cymbal I much prefer this cymbal and is worth it in my opinion.

  • Worth the Money

As reviewed by DaveH003 on 9/12/2009

Roland makes the best e-cymbals on the market. While nothing is going to feel or respond like a real cymbal, these are as close as it gets. They are responsive, can be choked, and have multiple zones. Combined with a Roland drum brain, you can play any kind of music and get just about any sound you can think up. If you are thinking about using this as a ride cymbal, I would recommend spending the extra money and getting a CY-15 R/C due to it's larger size, which makes the multiple zones easier to use. The size of the CY-12 R/C is perfect for a crash cymbal, which only needs a single stereo trigger input (2 zones - typically bow and edge). If you are torn between this and the CY-8, this is a much higher quality cymbal and is much more durable. They're expensive, but you will only need to make the investment once, which will save you time and money in the long run.

  • Works with Rockband

As reviewed by Thomas Hillman on 1/16/2012

I have an analog device that converts the drums to XBox controller outputs to allow the drums work with Rockband. My old Roland CY-8 kept missing or double hitting, but this new CY-12 is awesome. The signal strength is noticeably better and the overall feel of it is 10x better. I give it 5 gold stars!
