I have had my Rogue bass for +/-3 years. After a standard tightening/ adjusting session, I played a gig with this honey right out-of-the-box. I spent the whole night in wonder of the light weight, style, and just plain ole' kick-butt bass sounds I plucked out of this baby.(no pun intended). The original reason I purchased the VB100 is that I was out of town with a Fender Jazz Bass that didn't stand the trip, and a Hofner that didn't make the trip. I went to the "local" music store, and there she was! I just tried her out of curiosity. This bass was light weight, looked great, and played/sounded wonderful. Only a few hundred dollars later I walked out with the bass, a case, some flatwound strings, and a few new cables. The rest is history. I added the strings, added a few touches, and went to work. I have played this baby ever since with no problems. My thanks for allowing me to let other players know this success story with a great little bass.

Do Not Buy This Bass

Great feel, but the pickups suck. Only one the pickups worked. This inside of the guitar was caked with sawdust which ruined the electronics. This guitar is not worth the money.

Horrible

By Hukin Hukin

from Climax, Michigan

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about... I received this bass in about a week and a half. The box was in good condition. I opened up the bass and it looked very good. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed a number of problems. The fretboard was practically caked in a black powder, which blackened my fingers as I played. I do understand that many new basses have this problem (to a considerably lesser extent, might I add), but this was ridiculous. The strings looked very old and dingy. They provided a horrible sound. Also, the pick guard and the little bit of plastic over the electronics were in bad condition. They were chipped, and the edges were rough and very grated, leading me to believe that there was no quality check. Now, the sound. I plugged this bass into my Fender Rumble amp. (I own both the 30 and the 150) The bass made a very low and extremely trebly, weak sound on both. I fiddled with the controls on the amp and the bass, but to no avail. In short,I do not recommend this bass at all. I may have gotten a defective model, but it was in such horrible condition that I went for another bass.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

The Rogue VB-100 is an affordable and fun to play version of the famous "Beatle Bass". The folks at Rogue got it right with the proper scale length, light weight body and powerful pickups. If you compare the VB-100 to a Hofner Icon Bass, you'll see they're very similar. The differences are very subtle: the Rogue has a fancy bridge unlike the straight bridge of the Icon. The Rogue's tuners are also much better and feature a modern style, unlike the plastic tuners of the Icon. I know Beatle basses have plastic tuners but you'll feel more confident with the metal tuners.
The Rogue's humbuckers do not have the "staple" design of the Icon but they nail the tone and power of the original version very nicely.
I would reccomend putting flats on it also. Try a nice set of D'Addario "Chromes" (45-100 gauge) and you'll be thrilled at the authentic tone the Rogue makes.
I really don't have any major gripes about the bass. The only thing I had to address was the nut slots. The original nut slots were shallow and high, so I needed to open them a little to accomodate the D'Addario strings. Rogue uses a very light gauge (40-95) set on their initial set up. I replaced with cheap looking knobs with nice black/chrome numerically marked knobs, so I can see where my volume is. All in all, I like what Rogue has done with the VB-100 bass. It is a nice instrument that pays respect to the design of the past that includes some nice updates along the way.

Fit and Finish are immaculate . . . not a blemish in sight. Contrary to some other reviews, intonation is right on the money for all frets. Seems to be well set up right out of the box (pleasant surprise). Have .39-.96 flatwound strings ordered . . . much better for this instrument.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I've been playing bass for 3 years now, and I had an acoustic bass that I would use to help write songs. However when I plugged in the acoustic bass into an amp, the sound quality and chords didn't exactly transer over very well. So I wanted a solid electric bass that sounded great with single notes and chords as well, and I was highly satisfied with this bass. Great bass sound and great treble. Loud and clear and the chords on it are amazing. Right out of the box there was an unholy amount of fret buzz, but all it took was about 5 minutes of adjusting the truss rod to get rid of it. The bridge is also very easy to adjust height as well (just turn the silver wheels to raise or lower it). Bad set up out of the box, but I cant complain for the amazing price, because after I got it all set up, it's everything I wanted and more. Pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend it to others. It also looks gorgeous, in the picture the finish doesn't look all that, but in reality it's beautiful.

First bass guitar in almost 50 years, always wanted a Beatle Bass, this one is beautiful. Ordered a set of flatwounds but had to return them as regular strings will be too long. Make sure you get the strings for a 34" ball holder to nut.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I have read a lot of negative reviews about Rogue products. I own three of them two basses and one six string guitar. I have found fit and finish on all three to be excellent. Maybe I'm just lucky. As for the violin bass I purchased it is beautiful. Playable right out of the box, sounded good, frets were nicely finished along the neck, not a sharp edge to be found. there has been some slight fret buzz but nothing that's not easily fixable. I love playing this bass.

I just got mine a couple of days ago it was used, and well used. The person I got it from played it for for a few years in the studio and live.It was strung up with labella flatwounds so I left that way. After I got it setup I took to rehearsal this bass sounds as good as it looks. The quality the fit, build, finish, and sound. I can not find anything wrong with this instrument. It is made with quality materials very close to the way hofner makes them.Hofner has videos on youtube you can watch the beatle bass being built from start to finish. The bass is a pleasure to play and I would buy this if you looking for a beatle bass you can not go wrong.

          Returning this bass

          By Jeffrey Boellaard

          from Austin, TX

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I loved it at first. I wanted to get acquainted with it before replacing the strings with Ernie Ball cobalt strings. Tonight, I cut the original strings to replace them. At this point, I realized nothing other than the pickups were actually attached to the bass. The base can't take the Ernie Ball strings because the openings are too small. I'm not interested in a bass that can't use common string brands and expects me to position the bridge each time I wish to re-string. It looks outstanding. It felt nice. But, I'm glad I attempted to re-string the bass during the return period.

I went to buy this and the bass staff didn't have good things to say about it. I bought it anyway and it's absolutely amazing. The sound is kinda sharp but that's only because the strings that come with it aren't the highest quality but that's fine. I played three shows in three nights and it stuck up through everything. There's a small bit of fret buzz on certain amps but I couldn't care less.

I got this because of Paul McCartney, and I don't have enough cash to convince my wife I should spend a bunch of it on a real Hofner. BUT, this is surprisingly good. I didn't expect the sound to be so good on a knock off, I think it has good tone and is a lot of fun to play. Out of the box, it had a HUGE amount of fret buzz, but since I bought it new from Guitar Center, I went to my local guitar center and they gave it an adjustment for free.
