I have had my Rogue bass for +/-3 years. After a standard tightening/ adjusting session, I played a gig with this honey right out-of-the-box. I spent the whole night in wonder of the light weight, style, and just plain ole' kick-butt bass sounds I plucked out of this baby.(no pun intended). The original reason I purchased the VB100 is that I was out of town with a Fender Jazz Bass that didn't stand the trip, and a Hofner that didn't make the trip. I went to the "local" music store, and there she was! I just tried her out of curiosity. This bass was light weight, looked great, and played/sounded wonderful. Only a few hundred dollars later I walked out with the bass, a case, some flatwound strings, and a few new cables. The rest is history. I added the strings, added a few touches, and went to work. I have played this baby ever since with no problems. My thanks for allowing me to let other players know this success story with a great little bass.

The good: Got it since I am a big Beatles fan. It had that fat woody sound from the hollowbody construction, very light, and comfortable to play. In essence, it did what it was supposed to.

The bad: Quality. While it sounded great, fit and finish were not the greatest. Frets were fairly pronounced around the neck, so you can conceivably cut yourself. Never became an issue, though.... mostly since the A string 1st fret would not stop buzzing. By the time I got it to where it barely buzzed, the strings were raised way too high above the fretboard. Finally, the jack was loose. If you plugged in, it had a lot of play, so if you were walking around while playing, the cable would wiggle in the jack and cause popping in the amp. Needless to say, it was returned.

Honestly, given the price, it may be worthwhile to some to play the lottery and get one that works flawlessly. Given that this is generally a cheaper brand, I'd rather play it in store and make sure that it is perfect instead of sending it back and forth to the company in order to find the perfect one.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I went to buy this and the bass staff didn't have good things to say about it. I bought it anyway and it's absolutely amazing. The sound is kinda sharp but that's only because the strings that come with it aren't the highest quality but that's fine. I played three shows in three nights and it stuck up through everything. There's a small bit of fret buzz on certain amps but I couldn't care less.

Bought this one to replace one I had 30 years ago that I snapped the neck on traveling with it on a daily basis. Have always like the violin style, (Paul Mccartney wanna be!) I have played Gibson, Fender, and Epiphone, all good brands in their own right, but I prefer this Rogue. Even with my cheap amp I can get the low bass tones I like. Actually played my first one with a group that opened for The Hinson, back in 1977.

I bought this used off this site. I am quite impressed. This was not a very difficult bass to intonate, and it feels fantastic with a set of flats! The color is absolutely beautiful, and is just amazing overall! Just a little buzzy, but that wont be a hard fix.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I like the shorter scale neck on this bass. A "normal" scale bass neck feels so huge to this guitar player. I was surprised by the deep tones this guitar was able to produce. It probably isn't a good bass for heavy rock or funky slap bass. But it works good playing Beatles songs (of course) and accompanying an acoustic guitar. It looks cool and kitchy just sitting there or hung on the wall.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I purchased this when Musician's Friend had it on sale around Labor Day for 80 off. Given the price paid it appeared to be a good deal when it arrived. The fit and finish were flawless and it looked quite good. It tuned up quickly and the set-up was close to spot on. The strings weren't horrible...not great however...and would be better with a different set, or flat wound strings. The big issue was hum...when plugged into my amp it hums...I tried different cables and even a different amp and there was still interference...possibly a lack of grounding. There was a persistent hum which became worse in solo mode and when I would cup and move my hand near the control knobs/panel. My guess is that something wasn't soldered correctly...I don't have this issue with my other bass or guitar under the same conditions. Needless to say I was disappointed and wasn't about to mess with opening it up and attempting a repair. I've sent it back for a replacement which is pending. If you can buy it on sale and get one that is soldered correctly, and is packed well then it is a great deal...especially if you want a short scale and change the strings. I will say I suspect the issue is the manufacturer's packaging...it really is lacking...two pieces of Styrofoam...no owners manual or reference to string gauges...so even though MF packs it well...it's still getting bounced around by UPS and something could come loose. If you can buy it right it may great if you get a good one. Otherwise, the Epiphone or the Hofner are a better bet on sale in my opinion depending on how good the sale is.

Comments about Rogue VB100 Violin Bass Guitar:

I've been playing bass for 3 years now, and I had an acoustic bass that I would use to help write songs. However when I plugged in the acoustic bass into an amp, the sound quality and chords didn't exactly transer over very well. So I wanted a solid electric bass that sounded great with single notes and chords as well, and I was highly satisfied with this bass. Great bass sound and great treble. Loud and clear and the chords on it are amazing. Right out of the box there was an unholy amount of fret buzz, but all it took was about 5 minutes of adjusting the truss rod to get rid of it. The bridge is also very easy to adjust height as well (just turn the silver wheels to raise or lower it). Bad set up out of the box, but I cant complain for the amazing price, because after I got it all set up, it's everything I wanted and more. Pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend it to others. It also looks gorgeous, in the picture the finish doesn't look all that, but in reality it's beautiful.
