It's so small and light, looks and sounds great. I own 4 banjos, found that I was grabbing this one more than the rest. You will not be disappointed. Been playing 30 yrs.
If they beefed it up, it would be worth less. nice (ALL) geared tuners
Can't do better for the price

I am giving a rating of 5 because most new players will not be able to get this banjo to tune. I have built many guitars and I have played guitar for most of my life. I wanted to start playing banjo and decided to buy a cheap one before I invested a couple of thousand on a good instrument......just to make sure I would stick with it. All in all, I have seen worse and I have seen this banjo under other name brands also. Here is the main problem: The fifth string geared tuner on MY banjo would spin in the hole drilled in the neck. Basically you couldn't tune the 5th string. I resolved this by removing the tuner, roughing up the metal with heavy emery paper, applying medium viscosity super glue around the sides of the tuner and forcing it into the hole. Wait for the glue to cure. This works great. It isn't the proper way of making that repair but for a cheapo instrument that I intend to give away at some point after I learn, it is fine. I am working on geting rid of an annoying buzz/vibration on the 3rd/G string. It isn't the nut or the frets or saddle.....very agravating. I own thousands of dollars worth of gear and I think this banjo is a great value for a starter but you ill probably have to bring it to a repair shop if your banjo has the tuner problem. Beyond that, I don't think you can beat the value.........if you are handy, GO FOR IT
It isn't bad. Has a truss rod and geared tuners which is better than a lot of starter banjos.
I am amazed at the quality for the money but it has issues!
You can't beat the value!

I wouldn't buy another one of these banjos or anything else

Comments about Rogue Travel / Starter Banjo:

You banjo had more problem then anyone could deal with . Would be better off to just trash it and take the lost. Such poor workmen ship or assembly. You should fire your quality control inspector. I bet this isn't the first complaint you have had on this banjo. It's not worth sending back for an exchange. Disappointed in your company and I will not recommend you to anyone and fact I will tell them to avoid your product. Thanks for nothing.

Comments about Rogue Travel / Starter Banjo:

Guitar Center should review required specks with all foreign manufacturers of their instruments. This banjo was delivered with the wrong size bridge. Was therefore unplayable and required a complete set up. Would not recommend this banjo to anyone under any circumstances unless it were free. Even then it would probably be best used as firewood.

Comments about Rogue Travel / Starter Banjo:

My 16-year-old son wanted a banjo for Christmas (he does play bass guitar). We didn't want to get one that was too expensive in case he didn't keep going with it, but also didn't want to get the cheapest we could find in case he DID keep going with it. We purchased this banjo based on reviews and the good things that the folks at our local (Akron, OH) Guitar center had to say. It wasn't a stock item, so we ordered it ship-to-store. The banjo is pretty darn nice, very nicely finished and looks like a more expensive instrument. He was able to get it into tune very easily. I don't play banjo or guitar, but my grandfather was a banjo virtuoso who played locally. I spent hundreds of hours listening to him play on the back porch, so I do know what a well-tuned banjo is supposed to sound like. Of course, his were very expensive and top-of-the line pieces, so I didn't expect this one to sound as good as those, but it really is very good sounding and a handsome instrument. Highly recommended for a beginner banjo.

I was ok with installing the bridge but not something that I would have wanted to do if I really was a beginner. Aside from that, it is a really nice banjo for the price.

Comments about Rogue Travel / Starter Banjo:

I've never written reviews for things before, but this banjo deserved some recognition.

I've played guitar for 7 years. A few months ago I fell in love with the sound of the banjo, so I knew I had to get one. This banjo is the cheapest one I could find brand new, and it had a large body of highly favorable reviews, so I decided it was worth the risking of buying it sight unseen. I could not be more highly pleased with this banjo. It is beautiful to look at, it has good tone, it stays in tune, and it's super lightweight and portable. The banjo is now my main instrument.

I love this banjo like I've never loved an instrument before. When I'm at school and work, I miss my banjo and want to get home and play it. There never seem to be enough hours in the day to play banjo. I haven't had this banjo for too long, so I can't offer any strong proclamations on its reliability or durability, but I can say that it's presented zero issues in the couple months I have had it.

I have used this banjo with many other musicians, and they have been very impressed by its quality and were surprised that it was cheap and not from a brand-name. I've just started playing this banjo in a band, I just started with them so I haven't gotten to gig with it yet, but I'll be doing that pretty soon, and I have all the confidence in the world that this banjo will be up to the task.

This may not be the single greatest banjo ever made, but it is a very good instrument. For its price, it's about as good a deal you can get. If you are starting out or are on a budget or you just don't like shelling out your coin, this is perfect for the role. This is my first and so far only banjo, but I've played other banjos, all of them at least slightly more expensive, and I prefer this banjo to all others I've played so far.

Excellent first banjo. Bridge installed and tuned in minutes. Holds tuning well. Will be replacing with better strings soon. Trying to learn clawhammer, and it sounds great even as a fumble along. Highly recommended.

Comments about Rogue Travel / Starter Banjo:

So I have had this banjo for about 4 years. My dad picked it up for at a yard sale, and gave it to me for a Christmas present. Honestly, I have never had a single complaint about this. I don't consider it a starter banjo at all, as I play in clawhammer style and that is almost exclusively open back territory. Sure, there are prettier, more expensive open back banjos out there, but this way less. My only complaint is that I had to buy a arm rest myself, and do a bit of mods to it to get it to fit properly. I hated playing it without the arm rest. Love this instrument, and it will probably be the only open backed banjo I own!
