Overview

The Rogue Rocketeer RR200 combines the features of Rogue RR100 guitar with a basswood body for excellent tone and sustain. It is based on a classic design and was built for ease of playability. A sunburst finish and pearloid pickguard offer custom-good looks. The ultrathin, comfortable bolt-on maple neck makes it easy to riff up and down the 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with ease. The humbucker/dual single-coil pickup configuration with a 5-way switch puts an incredible array of tones at your fingertips and the addition of a coil-splitting via a push/pull pot offers up even more tonal options. A 6-screw vintage tremolo lets you have tons of whammy bar fun, while the die-cast tuners make sure you are in tune every time.

This is an inexpensive Chinese-made guitar with some good features. I wanted to see how much better it could be with a good setup, and the answer is very good. As delivered, the fretboard was dry as toast and the frets were not finished or crowned. Remove the strings, remove the neck, and a few minutes with a fine flat file fixed that. Oiled the fretboard, tightened the trem so it doesn't move, adjusted bridge height and intonation, slight adjustment to the truss rod (it comes with both wrenches) and the action now rivals some of my "better" guitars. I don't care about the quality of the pickups; like many people I have enough outboard electronics to make almost anything sound like almost anything else. This has a medium-weight body (much heavier/denser than the model 100), cheap but functional pots, serviceable tuners although I am replacing them with locking models. For a few hours' work it now plays well, and I like the 43mm (as opposed to many inexpensive guitars' 42mm) nut, since I have "adult fingers". Do not attempt to replace the plastic nut with bone or Tusq; it's glued in there solid. But for the price, this can be made very serviceable and I would recommend it as a decent beginner guitar.

Unpackaged this piece as soon as it arrived and noticed something incredibly wrong with the neck. The strings were touching flat against the frets from 1-5; the entire neck was sloped downward in relation to the body of the guitar.

Took it to my local shop and they performed the following:

Loosened the truss bolt
Tightened all tuning pegs; they were all loose enough to just about pull out
New strings; two strings broke almost immediately after putting tension on them for tuning
Adjusted all bridge bolts and hex screws
Shaved burs off edges of each fret

Thankfully I knew the shop keeper and he repaired/adjusted the unit for under 30. The guitar sounds fine now with the occasional buzz near lower frets.

If you're looking to purchase a cheap guitar, expect to pay to have it adjusted entirely if you're unable to adjust it yourself.

Comments about Rogue Rocketeer Deluxe Electric guitar:

It's good for my use since I just play at home for my own enjoyment. I'll need to change the strings because the ones that came on it are sharp. Every time I play an F bar chord the strings lightly scratch my skin with the exception of the 3 small cuts I've gotten. But not a big deal at all. Definately a good guitar for the price.

A great purchase. Looks and plays great right out of the box. Needs the frets sanded down on the edges as they are a little sharp.

Comments about Rogue Rocketeer Deluxe Electric guitar:

I thought I had achieved guitar contentment with my Gibson Studio that I use to play rhythm guitar in church. Unfortunately, being a little clumsy and causing my Gibson to fall off its stand resulted in a bent tuner. This helped me realize that I needed a beater guitar. The Gibson stays home - it's too nice to fall over on stage.

Enter this Rogue. I was swayed to the "light side" as I started to consider a Stratocaster style first (our lead guitar plays humbuckers... I wanted a contrasting sound), but the Squire strats are fairly notorious for inconsistent quality issues, and my goal was something playable for $100-200 that is quality for a few bucks more. This is it.

I love this maple neck with rosewood fret board. It's satin finish on the neck makes playing a joy. The body also fits like a glove.

The pickups are nothing special, but nothing bad. They sound like single coils... humm and all. They bring out some very nice clean sparkly tones when I set up my amp for that sound. Just turn up the gain a little more to get some growl.

When considering this versus a Strat, I thought I needed a pure SSS style Stratocaster. After playing this, I realize that I have the best of both worlds with this coil tapped HSS (That's right... the humbucker is COIL TAPPED - insane for this price!?). If the "buzz" on the single coils is driving you crazy... Drop in the humbucker, and you have anything between -quiet- cleans to gritty power cords.

Also, I think I prefer the simplicity of a single volume and single tone controls. Less struggle than with the Gibson's quad controls. Keep it simple = more fun.

By not being a pure Stratocaster clone, I don't have the flexibility of turning it into a custom parts-caster, but it does what I need it to, so why bother?

So, this is not a classic design. It is definitely a modern update to the classic Stratocaster.

A good guitar is you one you have a hard time putting down. You just want to keep on playing. This guitar is one of those.

      Ok guitar for beginner

      By Dq

      About Me Experienced

Comments about Rogue Rocketeer Deluxe Electric guitar:

Bought this guitar on GF from GC after having read the reviews from MF. My intention was to modify it as I have other more expensive guitars but this was cheap enough to try. I went through several to find one with frets that would not slice my fingers, choosing a sunburst model as I didn't care for the silverburst. I didn't want to take the time to undo all the packaging to try it out so I took it home. After I got home, took off the wrapping and tuned her up, i found the switch to be badly mounted and the pickup wiring to be wrong (middle position played neck pickup) and the coiltap didn't go to single mode. Since I got it at a store and not mail order, i took it back and went through more and actually tested it first. I found a good one so I was happy. As for the guitar, I found the pickups just ok though the inbetween positions sound good. Finish and overall quality is fine for a beginner, though my Squier Affinity is more to my liking.

The quality of this guitar varies a lot so buying online is a crapshoot and I recommend checking one out at Guitar Center and test it if you are going to purchase one. Its good for a beginner or for modding if you get it on sale cheap, otherwise I think the Epiphones and Squiers are better for beginners as the quality control is better.
