Please disregard the other reviews, for this mando rocks! The tuners are rock solid as is the bridge. Intonation can be adjusted easily with the screws on the bridge. Great strap holder as well. I was and still are amazed at how well it holds its tune. The sound is incredible too! For the price you cannot go wrong! If by some reason it turns up defective - simply send it back free of charge. Although I doubt that will happen considering at how well it is packaged. Mando was wrapped in soft packing paper, placed in a tight case box and that was placed in a bigger shipping box with plenty of packing paper. Guitar center and Rogue hit the ball out of the park on this one! I ordered over the phone from my local store, their customer service was awesome! They even called me after I got it to make sure everything was cool. Thanks Shane!

Comments about Rogue RM-100A A-Style Mandolin:

This is a fine mandolin. Seeing as it has a relatively low price, it can be a valuable tool on which to learn basic instrument setup, something which can make or break an instrument's sound. With this in mind, here are the things I worked on with my mandolin that brought it into shape:

Bridge location: it was about 3/16" off, making the octave at the 12th fret flat. Solution was to simply loosen the strings a bit and move it back away from the nut until the 12th fret was no longer flat. This measurement from the nut to the center of the bridge turned out to be twice the distance from the nut to the 12th fret. An electronic tuner also helps with getting the note right.

String action: the strings were a bit high when I got it, so I adjusted the bridge down a bit while I was positioning it for intonation (above). Just adjusted the screws, nothing to it. I used the old nickle gauge to measure when the action was right; if a nickle can pass tightly under the strings at the 12th fret, you're just about right.

These are the only two things I changed, everything else worked well out of the box after tuning. However, after a fair bit of use over a couple years the frets have shown wear resulting in some frets being lower than others in the high register. At this point I feel that I am proficient enough with the instrument to get a better one, though, and I feel it's likely that you will feel the same way when you get to this point. Still might try fixing it for the experience, though; as previously stated, the price allows me to feel comfortable experimenting with it a bit.

All in all, a fine instrument that is an excellent introduction to the mandolin as well as the world of instrument tweaking.

I bought the black finish and it is beautiful. My advice to someone setting up the bridge yourself us to tune strings 1 & 2, and 7 & 8 an octave lower so there is less pressure on the bridge, then set your intonation and action before tuning it proper

Comments about Rogue RM-100A A-Style Mandolin:

For the price, I'm stunned at the sound quality. I'm new to the instrument, & I have large fingers, which can cause open chords to sound (ever so slightly) out of tune. This is my only complaint, but I imagine a more experienced player wouldn't share my problem. It's sturdier than I expected, & the body work is gorgeous. The accompanying chord book has made learning SO easy. Highly recommend this mandolin.

Comments about Rogue RM-100A A-Style Mandolin:

I was listening to "Old and In The Way" and wanted a Mandolin really badly. This Mandolin is not bad at all. It does what you want a Mandolin to do if you are a guitar player who occasionally plays the Mandolin.

I have it tuned to E-A-D-G so you don't really need to relearn any chords if you are planning on just strumming.

This thing is built to last. It's survived: three moves over 300 miles, 1 month in storage, never having a case for three years, playing it frequently, no stand, it just hangs on my wall.

I don't know what a "Great Sounding Mandolin" sounds like the way I do a guitar, but to me, this thing is worth more than $50.

Only Negatives are: The Tailpiece is held on by a magnet & it fell off every time I picked it up. Superglue fixed that issue.

Good entry level mandolin. Wanted to learn to play but didn't want to spend money not knowing if I soul play or not. Will probally upgrade to another mandolin in a different price range and body style. Good buy for the money.

Purchased mandolin for my granddaughter's fifth birthday. Moved the bridge just a bit, otherwise it was ready to play out of the box. Good tone.
