I've been playing regular guitars for 50+ years and decided to try a lap guitar. The instrument arrived shortly after I placed my order. I also ordered a Shubb SP3 slide to use with it. I did change the strings and used a C6 tuning (CEGACE) after checking online finding that is one of the one more popular tuning choices. While the instrument is cheaply priced, it is NOT cheaply made. It's a fairly high quality instrument that is flawless looking and produces lovely tones! The tone control is effective and provides usable tone alterations. The volume control works smoothly. The Telecaster-like knobs make it easy to manipulate volume/tone as one would on a Telecaster. The single coil is very efficient. I used my Fender Twin Reverb and it sounded great! I also ran it through a Fender Champion with Boss Fender Reverb and was also very pleased with the tone. For portability, I tried playing it through a Roland Micro Cube and was surprised at it's tone. I added a bit of echo/reverb and it sounded great. The other effects on the amp also added additional flavor to the sound. While the tuners are not the best in the world, once it's been tuned, it stays pretty much in tune! Intonation is spot on! Bridge allows adjustments like Strats/Teles if needed. Mine arrived perfectly adjusted. While priced like a toy, I assure you, it's NOT a toy! The construction quality is A-1 ! The adjustable legs are perfect for those not wanting to play it on the lap. It produces professional-like sounds suitable for performances and the appearance certainly has a professional quality to it. I've read where some people have changed the pickup with a higher quality single coil or with a humbucker. I'm sure those would make changes to the tone, but it's perfectly wonderful JUST THE WAY IT IS. I'm thinking about buying another one to tune in a different key for different song requirements.

If you're just learning to play the lap steel guitar this isn't a bad buy for the price. However you might want to pick up a new set of strings that usually run around $9-$11 because the strings it comes with are terrible. Also make sure you get yourself a cable with a 90 degree end. The plug in for this guitar is directly on top and it makes it very difficult to change the volume/pitch while playing this lap steel. You might also want to pick up some different finger picks and a few slides until you get comfortable with a certain brand or type. All and all it's not a bad buy, but you got to upgrade some of the equipment to get that good sound. It comes with it's own carrying case so that is helpful. Like I said if you're looking to learn the lap steel this is a good buy for the price.

Comments about Rogue RLS-1 Lap Steel Guitar with Stand and Gig Bag:

Sounds great, stays in tune. Excellent instrument for those interested in learning slide guitar with a lap steel. Includes metal, adjustable legs, carry bag, and a tiny Allen wrench for the bridge. Since I often play with the instrument on a table, I added four adhesive rubber feet to the back to prevent slipping on a smooth table. Perfect for practicing, jamming and performing.

Comments about Rogue RLS-1 Lap Steel Guitar with Stand and Gig Bag:

I've played guitar for 50+ years and this was a great value as a starter instrument. The tone is better with heavier gauge strings. I would recommend this to anyone as a better than expected starter lap steel guitar.

Comments about Rogue RLS-1 Lap Steel Guitar with Stand and Gig Bag:

The review of (8 of 8) was wondering why the Chinese built the bridge with height adjustment, It's not for height adjusting, But for adjusting intonation. And glad they built that feature in for us pickie Pros as it is very rare you get an of the shelf instrument to tune well as far as intonation goes.
I will say however this Rogue tuning was spot on, and so was each strings Intonation .
Suggestion , before you try to adjust intonation , look it up on Wiki pedia first.

I have used it already to record a new song. The weakness I have found on this product is that it comes with very poor strings. I have replaced the strings with some morale open G tuning strings and it sounds fantastic. Also I dropped pick up down quite a bit to decrease the magnetic field against the strings and gained a lot more sustain

I have been playing guitar since 1964 and always wanted to try a lap steel. Figured that if it held tune, and wasn't too noisy, it would be a great buy. It has completely exceeded my expectation. If you are new to this, do a little research, pick a tuning, get the appropriate stings and start making music.

I've always wanted to try to learn to play a steel..I purchased this to learn..so far I'm doing ok. The legs are very sturdy. I have been playing piano/keyboards in bands for about 40 years. I know how an instrument should sound. This does a nice job. My pedal steel guitar friend likes it. He has been playing around 40 years also. If I ever get somewhat good on this I will get a pedal steel.
