I've been playing regular guitars for 50+ years and decided to try a lap guitar. The instrument arrived shortly after I placed my order. I also ordered a Shubb SP3 slide to use with it. I did change the strings and used a C6 tuning (CEGACE) after checking online finding that is one of the one more popular tuning choices. While the instrument is cheaply priced, it is NOT cheaply made. It's a fairly high quality instrument that is flawless looking and produces lovely tones! The tone control is effective and provides usable tone alterations. The volume control works smoothly. The Telecaster-like knobs make it easy to manipulate volume/tone as one would on a Telecaster. The single coil is very efficient. I used my Fender Twin Reverb and it sounded great! I also ran it through a Fender Champion with Boss Fender Reverb and was also very pleased with the tone. For portability, I tried playing it through a Roland Micro Cube and was surprised at it's tone. I added a bit of echo/reverb and it sounded great. The other effects on the amp also added additional flavor to the sound. While the tuners are not the best in the world, once it's been tuned, it stays pretty much in tune! Intonation is spot on! Bridge allows adjustments like Strats/Teles if needed. Mine arrived perfectly adjusted. While priced like a toy, I assure you, it's NOT a toy! The construction quality is A-1 ! The adjustable legs are perfect for those not wanting to play it on the lap. It produces professional-like sounds suitable for performances and the appearance certainly has a professional quality to it. I've read where some people have changed the pickup with a higher quality single coil or with a humbucker. I'm sure those would make changes to the tone, but it's perfectly wonderful JUST THE WAY IT IS. I'm thinking about buying another one to tune in a different key for different song requirements.

If you're just learning to play the lap steel guitar this isn't a bad buy for the price. However you might want to pick up a new set of strings that usually run around $9-$11 because the strings it comes with are terrible. Also make sure you get yourself a cable with a 90 degree end. The plug in for this guitar is directly on top and it makes it very difficult to change the volume/pitch while playing this lap steel. You might also want to pick up some different finger picks and a few slides until you get comfortable with a certain brand or type. All and all it's not a bad buy, but you got to upgrade some of the equipment to get that good sound. It comes with it's own carrying case so that is helpful. Like I said if you're looking to learn the lap steel this is a good buy for the price.

Comments about Rogue RLS-1 Lap Steel Guitar with Stand and Gig Bag:

I'm a former professional, and have owned a lot of equipment. I am new to lap steel however. I can't imagine getting a better deal or getting a much better laps steel unless you spend a lot. This is a great value for the money.

The fit and finish are really good. I got the black metallic one and it looks really nice. Better than the pictures.

The pickup sounds good and the controls work perfect. The pickup seems to be fairly balanced from highs to lows slightly better on the highs. I might adjust pup height slightly but it sounds fine as is. I'm using a Peavey VT Classic 2x12 guitar amp and I can get the sound I want for the most part. I tuned it C6 with the strings that came on it and it seems to work OK. I will however buy a C6 set when it needs strings as I suspect the sound will dial in better. I'm using a Dunlop Lap Dawg bar with it. I did level the strings at the bridge as it has a fully adjustable bridge like a tele. I just put the bar on the strings close to the bridge and used the tool provided to make them all level to the bar. I didn't have to do the intonation it was fine the way it came. The tuners are fine and I like that they point up instead of out like other lap steels. It stays in tune well.

It came with a nice gig bag that holds the guitar and the legs.

The only downside are the legs. One of the legs was missing a part on the first guitar I ordered so you couldn't tighten it up. I had to return that guitar for a replacement to get legs that were OK and that was kind of a hassle. The second one was good. Also the threaded holes you screw the legs into are really soft metal so be careful. Would help to add a little lube. I found I don't use the legs anyway but I wanted them to work.

All in all this is a pleasure to play and it sounds good. I always want to pick it up and play with it. Just the legs are cheap.

Only had for a few weeks and the leg has fallen off, went to try and put back together and the wood that the screws go into are torn and stripped. It appears it was cheaply made just expected much more from a music store.

Sounds great, stays in tune. Excellent instrument for those interested in learning slide guitar with a lap steel. Includes metal, adjustable legs, carry bag, and a tiny Allen wrench for the bridge. Since I often play with the instrument on a table, I added four adhesive rubber feet to the back to prevent slipping on a smooth table. Perfect for practicing, jamming and performing.

I've played guitar for 50+ years and this was a great value as a starter instrument. The tone is better with heavier gauge strings. I would recommend this to anyone as a better than expected starter lap steel guitar.

The review of (8 of 8) was wondering why the Chinese built the bridge with height adjustment, It's not for height adjusting, But for adjusting intonation. And glad they built that feature in for us pickie Pros as it is very rare you get an of the shelf instrument to tune well as far as intonation goes.
I will say however this Rogue tuning was spot on, and so was each strings Intonation .
Suggestion , before you try to adjust intonation , look it up on Wiki pedia first.
