Overview

The 5-string Rogue LX405 Series III Electric Bass is fashioned with a quilted maple top on a basswood body with a matching veneer on the headstock. The neck is Canadian hard maple deeply set in the body with 6 bolts for sustain approaching that of a neck-thru bass.

For stability the neck is fitted with a 2-way truss rod. The bass guitar's fretboard is highest-grade Indian rosewood. Genuine blue abalone position markers and a graphite nut grace the fingerboard. Satin chrome die-cast tuners and bridge are eye-catching details.

The bass guitar's strings can be anchored through body or bridge to suit your preference. The Rogue 5-string is armed with an MM-style humbucker at the bridge and a single-coil up front with active EQ. Controls include volume, blend, bass boost/cut, and treble boost/cut. You can bypass the active electronics with the pull-out volume knob in case your battery dies. The Rogue LX405 Series III is a wonderfully light and well-balanced 5-string bass, and its low price makes it a must-have for every bassist.

I got this used (sunburst model). I was very pleased but would still have been really happy if I had paid their regular price. Originally I got it as a backup 5-string but after playing it a while I'm going to put it in my regular show lineup. This bass will hold up to many other much more expensive basses and I've gotten compliments on the looks and sound from my band members. Overall I think you will be surprised at the quality, value and features of this bass compared to similarly priced 5-strings.
I was really surprised at the great features you get on this base for the price range it's in. The look is nice - quilted veneer top. The knobs, tuners and bridge are all brushed chrome. And it comes with an active two band pre-amp (bass boost/cut knob and treble boost/cut knob). A massive humbucker in the bridge and a single coil for the neck pickup gives you tons of tonal options. I can dial in pretty much any sound I need. For this price range it's a lot of features. You would normall just get passive pickups, basic chromed parts and a flat, solid painted finish and probably either just a singel humbucker or two jazz style pickups. This is an incredibale amount of features for this price.
I had expected to have to go over the bass and tighten up screws and nuts and re-adjust everything to just get it to work but it was all ready to go and nothing loose or buzzing or hanging off. It came all ready to go and everything worked. Other than tweaking the truss rod (loosened it an eight turn) and very slightly raising the action of few strings at the bridge - nothing else was needed. The parts are solid - nice brushed chrome - with everthing fitting perfectly. Tuners were good - not sloppy. Bridge is a nice solid piece of aluminum that is machined with really good adjustments for action, intonation. The bass is much better quality than I would have expected at this price range.
What can I say - this is a super value at this price. The parts alone (pups, active electronice, bridge, tuners) would probably run more than the bass itself. I don't see how they can sell a 5-string bass this good looking and playing at this price without loosing money. Just overall this is a fantastic value.

I bought it because of the Humbucking pickup at the bridge and price, but quickly got dissapointed with the wiring. The first guitar would not work unless I fiddled with the plug, so I returned it. The second had similar wiring and jack problems. Just moving the guitar around would send cracking sounds to the amp. I tried to like it but ended up returning it also in the end. Nice guitar to look at.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I've been playing my LX405 for over a year now, and I still absolutely love it. I bought it from a friend who was upgrading and wouldn't need it any more, so this bass is going on 2+ years, and I've had zero problems. It's a beautiful guitar for the price, and I have no complaints about any aspect of this bass. My friend liked his strings higher, so I had to lower them and make a truss rod adjustment; it was my first time operating on a guitar, but it was very simple. The pickups are amazing for this price.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

The only problems I had with this bass is the fact that it will not play without a battery in it. Weak battery=yes, Dead battery=NO. The description stated thru the body stringing, but it has no physical option for this. Other than that, I enjoy playing it, Light weight, good sound, nothing to set up upon arrival except tuning.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

I am new to the bass guitar and chose this guitar based on its look and its price. within two months I went through two of these brand new guitars, each had extremely poor craftsmanship and we're falling apart in different ways. from the factory these guitars were drunk I wouldn't recommend them unless you were looking for a good paperweight. in reality I would give this guitar 0 Stars but it makes me at least choose one.

GREAT BASS! but.... they placed the bridge wrong, 34" so 17" at 12th fret. NOT, 17 at 12th is right ,, bridge is 35 1/4ish, also bridge is 1 3/4 not standard 2" so,they should have put a 2" bridge or placed the current bridge at 34ish. also, the adjustment on intonation screws are maxed, so no adjustment is available,,

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This is an issue with quality control and accuracy of the advertisements. I have ordered 4 Rogue Bass LX405 Series III Pro guitars. The first was August 2012. It is a good guitar and worked well until a poorly installed wire chafed and shorted. I finally found and fixed it. The next 3 were ordered in the last two months, the first was damaged in shipping.
But all 3 had several problems in common.
        1. The 1/4" jack is not right, I suspect it is a stereo jack, as you can't plug in a standard cable and have it work unless you pull it out 1/2", and it is really hard to put it in and take it out.
        2. The new style neck pickups are a bridge position pickup, as the magnets don't line up on the outer strings, & are off a little on the strings either side of center.
3.I don't think the neck pickup is a passive pickup, as the guitar does not work unless the battery is in and has power. The on off switch just seems to disable the tone settings.
4.Cosmetic only, but if you say blue abalone, it should be blue. It isn't.
        5. The strings can't anchor through the body with this new bridge.
The guitar I bought last August is just like the one in your website photo, and plays as described in Features, but the abalone was white. None of these last 3 match the photo or have the features described.
I had requested the last guitar be checked for these issues prior to shipping,
and it wasn't. At this time I am very disappointed with the quality control
and the accuracy of the description of this guitar. If the vendor has changed
specs, this should be reflected in the feature description and photos, or, better yet, hold the vendor to the build specs originally stated.
The guitar I bought last August is good, the next three were very disappointing.

Comments about Rogue LX405 Series III Pro 5-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Ordered as "Used-Needs Repair" with defects listed as no electronic output and finish scratches. The cosmetic blemishes were there but practically unnoticeable and they polished out nicely using a soft cloth with a bit of toothpaste. The "no output" condition existed when a plug was inserted all the way in the jack but there was output when it was inserted part-way. I ordered a flush-mount stereo jack from another vendor (Why doesn't M/F offer these?) and installed it, fixing the no-output problem.

Other issues unrelated to the no-output repair: First, the finish, specified as "trans-black", was… black. No veneer figure can be seen like as in the product photos, even under bright lighting. Second, contrary to the product description, there is no provision for through-body installation of the strings. Third, the blend control… doesn't: it's either the bridge pickup or the neck pickup, with extremely reduced output and mid-rotation. Fourth, the nut slots were nowhere near deep enough and required quite a lot of dressing down with nut files for the strings to fret properly at the first couple of frets. Fifth, virtually all the hardware items, particularly the tuning machines, were loose and required tightening. Finally, although the neck appears very straight, there are buzzes at several places on the fingerboard that persist even with the bridge saddles cranked up almost to the limits of adjustment. A fret-leveling is definitely in order, and I might also fabricate a spacer plate to go between the bridge and body to get some more saddle height range.

I hardly expected a perfect instrument for the price paid and knew up front I'd be putting some work into getting the bass working and playable, so in all I think I got decent value. My biggest disappointments were the features (finish and bridge) not as described.
