If you ever wondered which mic manufacturer has the most interesting history, Rode Microphones just might have the answer. It was founded by Peter Freedman, who inherited a declining electronics business from his father and tried to turn it around by importing some new microphones to stock on his shelves. As fate would have it, he got the idea to open up one of those mics and tinker with it - and he wound up creating an historic mic that earned the affectionate, if humble, nickname "Rodent-1". But Freedman capitalized on that, calling it the "Rode NT-1" - the ancestor of all the Rode cardioid condenser microphones you'll see in this section.

Of course, Rode has come a long way since then. Unlike the original NT-1, these newer models are all designed and built in-house. And yes, that does include the current NT-1 successor, the Rode Microphones NT1 Cardioid Condenser Microphone. Alongside it in the lineup are variants with adjusted polar patterns like the Rode Microphones NT3 Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone, and instrument-oriented models such as the Rode Microphones M3 Multi-Powered Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone. There's even a handheld mic - the Rode Microphones M2 Handheld Condenser Microphone - which is perfect for situations like live concert recording, which call for a combination of dynamic mic versatility and condenser mic sound quality.

Some of the Rode cardioid condenser microphones you'll find here are even more specialized. For example, The Rode Microphones Stereo VideoMic Pro Stereo On-Camera Microphone is designed especially for high-end video recording. Other models come in matched pairs for stereo recording. The bottom line is that there are plenty of options to satisfy a huge variety of audio recording needs, so no matter what kind of performance you're looking for in a condenser mic, you can probably find a Rode microphone that has you covered. All it takes is a few minutes to weigh the options and pick out the best one... so what are you waiting for?
