After 14 years of playing, I've finally found the perfect tone for me with the Rocktron Zombie Rectified Dist. This little box has some big mean cajones on it. And I promise I'm not getting paid by Rocktron. Like everybody else in Texas, I play Fender Strats, running into the DB-01 Crybaby From Hell, into the Boss DS-1, which I use as an overdrive/chorus, into the Zombie, and out of the old-school Peavey Transtube Bandit 112 (before the redesign). I can get some seriously aggressive, nasty tones: Perfect for anything from the Ramones to Pantera. I've been through quite a few distortion boxes, but the Zombie is the most impressive, especially for the price. It has a very clean, crispy crunchy bite, and one can go from rhythm to lead with relative ease. If you like harmonic squeals, this is just right. With all that said, I gave it four out of five because it can be pretty high-ended, and may require a bit of tinkering before it is tamed. Aside from that, it's great, and have been playing my fingers off since the day it arrived on my doorstep. I love it, but I doubt my neighbors are very happy with me...

This pedal is great if you have a tube amplifier and allow it to overdrive the preamp stage on the clean or lead channels. It will sound very "thin" unless you have some mids added in on an EQ or your amp. This sounds better than most distortion pedals, including the Boss MT-2. Be prepared to be disappointed with the sound unless you EQ it right and overdrive the preamp stage of your tube amp.

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

This pedal is my ultimate piece of gear. I have bought other pedals to add some spice in the past few months (flanger, whammy, tremolo, fuzz, delay and reverb) but at the base the only thing I need to get my legit tone is this pedal followed by the rocktron guitar silencer and my orange dark terror. I keep the dark terror at 12 for gain and signal and use this pedal for my actual tone. Much like Jordan Buckley turns on his JCM800 and hits his tube screamer and plays I turn on my Orange hit the on button for this bad boy and thats it. Game. Over.

I will also add that I fried my original Zombie by accidentaly plugging my 18v charger into it (its a 9V pedal) and I called rocktron and they sent me one for free immediately. I also bought a backup on sale so I have a couple of these now sitting in my room.

I will sometimes use them both one for my actual tone (I back right off the scream because I like stop start and the scream gives constant feedback) but I will plug in the second one and max out the scream and use it as a effects pedal. You can also use two of them and set one to the left side of the wave length and one to the right and get this really crazy wirly metal tone.

    SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!!!!

    Just buy the thing. Seriously.

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

So i ended up haveing to buy this becuse i recently came into posesion of a 1964 gibson discoveror amp. This is a great vintage all tube amp, But in no way shape or form is it metal, it has no effects other than a built in tremolo that is worthless. Any way this pedal came, after some tweeking, this little 1x12 vintage grampa amp couldent sound more brutal. Thunderous lows i find it sounds best to my ears with the pedal volume low and the amp volume up. Get any tones from classic scooped mids to modern grit, Be patiant and take your time adjusting. Find what sounds best for you. This pedal works great for heavy extreme death metal sounds.

BEWARE OF THE ROCKTRON 9VOLT ADAPTER IT DOSE NOT FIT!!!!

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

So ive endid up with a 1964 gibson dicoverer amp. This is a great vintage all tube amp, but it is in no way shape or form metal. It has no over drive or distortion @ all. So i bought the zombie pedal to give it the brutal distortion it needs. You can get alot of metal tones out of this thing.
Scooped mids, or modern grit. Its built solid enough, i find it works best for me if i keep the pedal volume down and amp volume up this gives more thikness and depth to the thin frail clean sound of my 1964 gibson amp. but bottom line you gotta tweek to find what sounds best to your ears. All im sayin great product you get what you pay for.

    Zombie VS "crunch" distortions

    By Angelo Dorotan

    from New York

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

I was looking for distortion with a full sounding tone and away with the usual metal pedals that sound very thin. be warned though, this pedal may have alot of hum, especially with my setup which i use with ng p-90 guitar. tone wise, the stare knob may be useless or useful depending on situations and what you want as your tone, which is highly necessary if u gig at different places. i cannot explain it in words but you should try how it feels and sound like. with this price range, the competition all sounds alike, with sound settings from bluesy to country rock and to harsh proco like sound. if you want versatility and sound unique, this is the pedal for you, for anythng else specific. others may do the job

    Pretty

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

I have owned one of these pedals for almost 6 years...and I never really just enjoyed the sound that came from it. It was only when I hooked it up to my Peavy Valve King head here recently that I actually got blown away by it. You can play it on a solidstate but you just wont get the same feeling as playing tube dude. If you do get this pedal though, get an EQ and boost your signal. I'm positive you'll love your new tone. I like brutal noise like Black Dalia Murder, Suicide Silence, and A Plea For Purging and I can dial it in well and own that shizz. I run this with an MXR ten band EQ to do it though.

    Mine broke...

    By Charlie G.

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

Note that the reason i gave this pedal 1 star has nothing to do with sound, but the fact that after 2 days it completely stopped working. For the time i did have it, it sounded great(4 stars). But me personally i would recommend a more boutique style pedal for anyone. But if u get this one im sure you will enjoy it, as long as it works.

    Impressive in many aspects

    By JL-EFj1E

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

I picked up one of these for fun just to add more variety to my rig which consists of either a DSL50 or a JMP Mark II-Lead head into a miked 12" Vintage 30 in an isolation cab or 4x12. I run the amps about a third to half volume: enough to move the speaker cone. I already have a TS-808 and an Ibz TubeKing on the front end of this set-up so the Rocktron was facing real competition as far as remaining on the pedal board.I swear you can hear Satan's laughter when slamming a cord or running through an arpegio with this pedal. Rapid single note runs remain agressive and crisp are not lost with this oedal: no blurry mush here. Even subtle cord voicings also seem to be augmented by this pedal. Having owned a Mesa Recto-Pre, a GB Diablo and other "heavy amps" I was glad to hear the heay tones this produces while giving IMHO better lead tones (smooth and howling and not grainy). Neck pup leads are amaizing on a Smartwood LP with this pedal. Lots of useful settings, but I prefer to keep the drive level half way-pushing the bass a bit and leveling off the treble.

i used to use a stupid orange standard distortion. i went through about 6 pedals and that one was the best. this pedal is for hard rock or metal. you can get awsome pinch harmonics and awsome drop-d sound. must have for all metalheads. \m/

    Very Close!

    By Alex Levi

    from Dallas, Texas

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

This distortion is great and comes very close to a rectified sound. If you're a fan of Mesa, but don't have the cash to fork over, then this is a nice start. Don't expect as wide of a range of sounds as a dual rec Mesa would offer, but you can't go wrong with something so frugally priced. Don't let the absence of a "mids" nob scare you. Any good amp can make up for that. All in all a great buy and can cover anything from Blink 182, to Paramore, to your favorite Solid-State bands (if you tweak it right).

    Somewhat disappointed

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal:

I've had this pedal for about a year now and really enjoy the quality of sound through this pedal. I run this pedal in front of two setups. One being a crate head and half-stack. The other being an original 65' Fender Deluxe Reverb. It sounds great through both, and has plenty of "chunk" through the half-stack. However, it has seen what I would consider low to medium use and went on the fritz in the middle of our last show. When I step on the switch, it sometimes comes on and sometimes goes off. I figured it was a bad switch and replaced it to no avail. This only leads me to believe that the issue could be in the board. Simple soldering is my limit so I'm on the looks for something else. Great while it lasted though.
