It's a fun little pedal that you will enjoy for awhile. But don't settle here. This is just a stepping stone of tone.
I had a idea to try this. This pedal will be just great for our younger players on SS amps. I play a Marshall DSL with GT's in the pre amp, A traditional Les Paul and the Shred V with EMG's on greenbacks. I had a blast toying with this and was very pleased. BUT...as we the older purist know you just can't beat the clarity of a Marshall. This pedal will give someone great pleasure until they get a true tube amp. The pedal is hot but not very clear. I did put a delay in the FX to tame it some but it's just not clean enough to top the amp. The lead was spot on but agian it's the same problem we see on all of the lower end pedals of today meaning they are hot for big strings and chord chunking but that's about it. So if anyone wants a taste of what you will have oneday. This pedal is probably the best choice until later times. If you get this you will be happy for awhile and will spend more time playing than you are now I promise.
I took it apart thinking I would change tubes. Don't bother trying....leave it as it is and enjoy.
Simply the best pedal I have found at this price. The other reviews are giving you experience not lies so let them soak in.

I got this and was really excited from all the reviews.

Hooked it up and really loved the sound I was able to get, but as soon as I got it up to volume, it fed back like crazy. I ran it through my Marshall 1987X and it sucked the volume unbelievably. With the pedal on, I could only get about 1/2 the volume on 7 that I could get without the pedal on 3. AND it wouldn't feed back without the pedal, even though it was twice as loud.

Also, is extremely touchy. Once I got it set sound-wise and not feeding back, if I raised ANY settings on either the pedal OR the amp, the feedback issue would start again, and I'd have to take 5 minutes to re-adjust. Sometimes it would also unexpectedly start hissing.

I don't know....maybe I just couldn't figure out how to use it properly, but it just isn't the pedal for me.

add fire and crackle at low volume...

Running through a solid state amp, this pedal allows me to push my signal so it sounds like I'd be playing real loud, but doesn't disturb the neighbors.
Since it needs to be plugged into its own proprietary 18v AC adapter (included) it doesn't mate well with the other guys on my pedal board... but for getting an adjustable tube sound in my living room, it's very cool.

    UNLEASH THE DRAGON

    By Dude

This pedal is worth every penny. It might come off pricy at first but you're basically getting 2 different pedals out of it. I play a lot of Skynyrd and lighter distortion stuff and I keep the Awaken side cranked down and use the Slayer side for my leads, but the Awaken side cranked up can kick some serious A. This thing is built like a tank and if very roadworthy, and it looks great. The LED's are very easy to see and the tube puts off an orangle glow that looks awesome lit up. Stop wasting your time reading reviews and buy this pedal, you won't be disappointed.

    Wow.

    By Sabre

When I got this for my 15th birthday, I was surprised at how it sounded. I have used it non-stop in my guitar rig, and with good reasons. One, I have a Fender Princeton Chorus amplifier, an Ibanez GAX70, and a re-issue DanElectro DanoBlaster that I named "Dani". The amplifier is a solid-state amp, mind you, and the standard distortion on it is nice and creamy an' all, but I wanted more out of it. I used to use my brother's Danelectro FAB "Metal" pedal with it, and it used to be too harsh. Now, the Silver Dragon bridges the gap between the two. It's got the right amount of crunch to it, and I love it. I happen to have it set up enough that, to me, it gets EXACTLY James Hetfield's tone with the Ibanez, even though he uses Marshall amps. This thing will transform your amp, given the right EQ settings. It will turn the smoothest, tamest amp out there into a fire-breathing BEAST, all thanks to the Rocktron Silver Dragon. Also, I have a guitar project in the works with a basswood Squier HM Strat from the '80s, a Bill Lawrence L-500XL humbucker pickup, a bolt-on 24-fret neck, and a Floyd... I can't imagine how crunchy this thing would sound once I get it done...

    Quite an amazing pedal.

    By cadva3r

This pedal sounds great. The tube overdrives nicely and responds well to your pick hand. The solid state side gets the overdrive to saturate without sounding harsh. You can crank all the knobs for an extremely heavy, high gain sound and still have really heavy, tight bottom end. IMO this pedal is great for rock and blues. The tube side with the gain a bit lower sounds very vintage. You can engage the solid state side for your solos to make them stand out, and yeah they will cut right through. I love this pedal. It kinda is making me sell some other gear that I no longer need.

    Great Pedal

    By Prsfanatic123

Ok so i have to say this is a great pedal for the price, i bought it used for half the price. Anyway i have played this with my Paul Reed Smith SE model (which is a very balanced guitar for rock/metal) through two different amps that i have played it through. The first one is a Line 6 Spider 15 watt. It is solid state and has a decent clean. Anway the Silver Dragon was able to decently increase the quality in tone and distorion. Pinch harmonics are massively easier to do with this pedal when put through a solid state amp. The silver dragon will add a tube tone to any solid state, however it is not that signifigant and I suggest that you either buy a solid state distortion pedal, or save up and get a twin tube pedal. Putting this through my Bugera 55 watt tube is a whole different world. The distortion is very clear and tone is awesome, and that is without the slayer setting turned on. Turn slayer on and you have an obsene amount of distortion. This pedal will also make the controls on your guitar stand out far moreThe only bad things about this pedal is mine have a bit of extra noise that goes back through. Far more noticable with solid state amps. All in all this pedal is for tube amps ONLY. It is built for metal, but without being paired with other tubes it won't get that high of distortion.

    By Valentine

    Excelent pedal.

    By that one guy-jS5K7

I used to have a few different types of distortion pedals that I use, this one eliminated the need for all of them. It has a rich overdrive and a great crunch on the distortion and its easy to adjust to your sound (I used different color markers to mark the settings for my different styles of music I play). The tube is alse extremly well place so you can replace it with ease. I've put a different tube in to achieve a better overdrive, but it wasn't necessary. I just didn't think it had enough so I swapped it out. Which also makes this convienent because if you're not happy you can just change the tube to your liking

    Pretty Spectacular

    By Hyperfalcon

    from Telluride, CO

This pedal is pretty spectacular. I got it as a gift about a year ago, and I love it. The sound is phenomenal, a hissing, sassy, and ballsy distortion that is really hard to find. My one complaint with it was the jacks. The jacks were really confusingly wired in and they broke about six months afterwards. I had to install a new pair of jacks and wire them into the board, and guess what? It sounds just as good. So aside from that I would give it a perfect score.
