This 2-channel Rocktron Gainiac guitar tube preamp packs enough heat (and gain) for even the most hard-core metal heads! With over 70dB of gain and an incredible EQ circuit, the Gainiac can deliver any tone under the sun. By turning up a special "Scoop" control, you suck out the midrange frequencies and produce the heaviest sounds imaginable. Use the bottom and top EQs to shape the lows and highs. The clean channel delivers the warm, punchy sound that guitarists of every persuasion love to hear.

Rocktron Gainiac

THis preamp is just an ok preamp. The clean is really nice sounding warm and very usable with effects. The distortion was good but not over the top. Its a small unit not very wide and heavey. i think it has 2 tubes in it. i would say the clean was very nice on it.

A decent guitar preamp

I tested out this preamp unit for a friend a few weeks back and I had mixed results. I liked the unit for guitar and bass amplification but I did not like it for vocals (which it was not made for anyway). The unit colored the sound in a way that I did not like very much. I tested the preamp with a Sure SM57 and several MXL mics on both male and female voices. If you need a inexpensive preamp for instruments this may be a good choice, but if you need a preamp for vocal tracks I would consider looking elsewhere.
