I have to admit, I had my doubts after ordering and waiting for it to come in. I was second guessing my choice of this product over the vox headphone amp, that plugs right up to your bass. I chose the Bass Ace primarily because it uses 9vlt batteries and I just didn`t think the other amp would do so well with AAA`s. Anyway, when I got the bass ace and hoked it all up using my iphone and some cheap sony headphones, that sounded pretty clean so i hooked up my bass and was blown away at the dynamic range of sound. I read one of the other reviews here that said it wasnt loud enough... Trust me, its loud and very clear, I didn`t think the built in effects made much of a difference in tone, and i just dont use them but as far as this product goes, its great. It`s everything they say it is and more. I`m hard of hearing and its loud for me so that should tell ya what you need to know..... Very satisfied with this
Pros: Very good device for quiet practice without using a regular bass amp. clean and punchy bass signal and the aux input works great too. Cons: The size is a little bulky and headphones could be a little better quality. Note: The quality of headphones has a significant impact on the quality and depth of the bass input signal.
I just got this amp for Hannukkah, and the tone is unmatchable! My 2 other Oranges have a smooth, clean tone, but this thing has a true classic sound. If I turn up the tone on my bass, this little thing just cranks! This is one good practice amp, with a good, creamy-fat bass tone.
I have the original Rockman Bass Amp that I purchased in 1989). This amp is really great when you need to NOT be heard by others. Lightweight, easy to operate, and you can plug music from outside sources to practice. (Such as an iPOD, tape player, etc. You need a 1/4" adaptor and maybe a 1/8" adaptor; both are very inexpensive and can be purchased at almost any electronics store). It can accept both active and passive basses without activating any switches. The Bass Rockman is easy on batteries. I change the 9V battery roughly every two months, considering fifteen hrs. of use per month. You can connect with an AC adaptor to save on batteries. If you need a basic, portable practice amp without effects, this is it ! Get it !
This headphone amp is top shelf! Plus it allows me to practice without the neighbors calling the cops, again. The sound and effects are as good as my full size amp. Great for the player that would like to practice at any time . Day or night. Thanks, Pat.
