Overview

The Rockfield SWC (Select Wound Custom) bridge pickup was designed from the ground up by meticulously researching old design documents, spec sheets, wood shed articles, building, testing and re-testing for countless days and endless hours. Most importantly though, Rockfield shut up and listened to what the players wanted. After all the questions were answered and the research and testing were done, they finally came out of the lab with a killer pickup that they as players are also extremely proud of. Rockfield SWC pickups are slightly over wound and provide "ringing bell like" clean tones and growling vintage style leads with endless warmth and sustain. However, turn up the gain in your favorite amp and the natural bold and spongy tone of these pickups sizzles and cooks into a very full aggressive distortion without loosing note or tonal definition. The split coil option or "tapped" positions are useful and articulate well for a great pickup in any format!

Obviously, Rockfield had to complement the SWC bridge position pickup with a neck pickup that was just as strong as its brother. So back to the drawing board they went. With the main design concepts down and fundamentals selected previously, a tweak here and a tweak there gave a perfect blend of clean and bold tone that is round and spongy as it is singing and smooth. Tested and re-tested in many formats including with other makes and models of bridge pickups, this neck pickup is the perfect addition to any guitar!

Truly a Best-Kept Secret!

By Mike R.

Comments about Rockfield SWC Select Wound Custom Pickup:

I don't know where Todd Rockfield came from, but I couldn't be happier with the tone from my SWC's. They came stock in a Michael Kelly Patriot Limited guitar, which is a top-notch instrument. I have nothing to compare them to but the sound my 2005 Gibson LP Standard had. (I sold the LP after I got the MK with Rockfield SWC's!) I only use high-end tone-rich tube amplifiers and analog effects. I can't say enough about the quality inherent in Rockfield and Michael Kelly products. Truly amazing! p.s. I used to be sold on high-end Seymour Duncan pickups--not anymore...

SWC-Awesome pickups

By Byron MacDonald

from Toronto, Ontario

Comments about Rockfield SWC Select Wound Custom Pickup:

I have used many aftermarket pickups, Dimarzio, Duncan, etc. but never have I been so surprised and amazed at the sounds of the SWC Zebra pickup I just installed in my Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II, stereo, chambered, Nanomag pickup model. With a Dimarzio Super 2 in the neck and the SWC in the bridge, this guitar SCREAMS!!!!. Bridge tones are bright, clear, with ringing harmonic overtones and a full rich sound. There are no weak spots with this pickup at all. In middle position, combined with the Super 2, I get the most angelic sounds I have ever heard without effects. It literally sounds like 2 guitars playing the same thing at the same time, in harmony, with the brightness of the SWC and the crunch of the Super 2, it gives a bright, full clear sound that I nave never heard in my life. I usually play lead in the neck position, so I like a hot pickup there, but the SWC is so good, I can play in all 3 positions and it sounds amazing. Especially in the middle position, which I have never used or liked on any other guitar in my life. I cannot recommend Rockfield pickups enough. Tones from Zeppelin, ACDC, Queen, anything you like are possible with these pickups. I am going to put 2 of these on my ESP EC50 with coil tapping pots as soon as I can afford it. Rockfield pickups ROCK.

Great Tone

By Sherm Mehlhoff

Comments about Rockfield SWC Select Wound Custom Pickup:

I was disapointed with the leads on both pickups, to short especially the neck, I had to add wire on my Les Paul to make it reach. I talked to Todd at Rockfield and he said they should be roughly 10 inches so I think someone had installed them before and returned them. The tone is very good, it is so hard to describe because everyone has a different idea about good tone but here is my take: I played them through a Soldano head and 4x12 cab., very clear and articulate, very good harmonics, sound kiler when playing long solos very dynamic, wished they had a little more bass. My favorite pickup is the Seymour JB.
